Chapter 27

TWENTY-SEVEN

Jolted awake, Shaun sat upright in bed, her hair a tousled mess around her head. Pushing the rioting curls away from her face, she blinked several times to clear the sleep from her eyes, listening for whatever it was that had woken her so abruptly.

A hard, impatient knock sounded again, and she jumped out of the bed, nearly tripping on the sheet in her haste.

Grabbing her phone, she saw several missed calls from Chase and her heart jumped into her throat.

Racing down the hall, she skidded to a stop at the door, unlatching the lock and pulling it open frantically.

“Is it time— Kasey!” she stuttered, stunned when she came face to face with him on her doorstep. “What are you doing here?”

“I told you I’d follow you if you ran,” he murmured darkly, stepping over the threshold until he stood directly in front of her.

Gripping her hips in his hands roughly, she was hauled up against him and her mouth parted in a silent gasp when she felt him pressed up against her.

“I can’t stay away. You’ve made it impossible for me to stay away, Shaun. ”

“No, this was supposed to be done—over—in Colorado—”

“No, we were supposed to have the weekend,” he countered roughly.

“—yeah well, we didn’t. Whatever that was, it’s over now—"

“Is that really what you want?” he interrupted, dropping his voice. “Be honest, because if you really wanted that to be over, you wouldn’t be pressing that greedy pussy against my cock right now.”

She spluttered in a derisive laugh. “God! You are such an arrogant son of a bitch—”

“And you lie like a goddamn rug, darlin’,” he interrupted on a snarl, talking over her.

She clicked her teeth shut, grinding them together until her jaw ached.

“You lie to yourself; you try to lie to me… But I’m not listening to those lies anymore.

You can’t hide the way you feel, the way I make you feel when I’m buried so deep—”

Shoving her hands into his shoulders as hard as she could, she pushed him away, but barely.

His hands never relinquished their bruising hold on her hips, their middles pressed tight together.

Heaving breaths expanded her chest, her heart hammering a heavy cadence beneath her breasts as anger twisted through her.

“Fuck you,” she whispered a heartbeat before she launched herself into his arms, his mouth crashing down onto hers ferociously. Picking her up beneath her ass, he stepped inside and kicked the door closed with a resounding slam.

He made it half a dozen steps into the living room before setting her down none too gently and immediately tearing his jacket off his arms, dropping it to the floor, then reaching for the stretchy material of the tight fitted yoga shorts that had ridden high on her thighs.

He dropped to his knees and ripped them straight down the middle, eliciting a shocked gasp from her as he shredded them with his fingers.

She wasn’t wearing panties, and the next heartbeat he’d caught her around the knees with both hands and yanked her down to the floor with him, pushing her down onto her back and following with his own body.

Manacling her wrists, he hauled them over her head and pinned them to the floor, at the same time grinding into her, between her already spread thighs, groaning audibly against the skin of her neck.

With his other hand, he released the button and lowered the zipper of his jeans, tugging his boxer briefs down until his cock sprang free.

Shaun moaned when he rubbed his length up and down her cleft, teasing, before he sank two fingers into her, testing her readiness.

“Why do you do this to me?” he growled fiercely, lining himself up against her, just the head of his shaft pressing into her.

She cried out in frustration, gyrating her hips upward, trying to take more of him.

Slamming into her hard and oh-so deep, she let her head fall back against the floor as he pounded into her over and over.

“Why do you fight me, Shaun? Why do you fight this? Why did you run from me?”

Circling his hips, she groaned in ecstasy when he hit just the right spot inside her, her clit rubbing against him as he ground into her.

Gripping the hem of her sweatshirt, he yanked it up until he uncovered one breast, dipping his head to take the pierced nipple into his mouth, biting and sucking, until she writhed beneath him, cries of intense pleasure escaping her throat.

Flutters began to tighten her inner muscles around him, and she gasped out breathlessly, “Oh my god, Kase. I’m going to come—”

Slamming his hips into hers, he stilled completely, stopping her from going over that edge and she groaned, yanking on her hands, but still he kept them pinned above her head. “Not yet.”

“Ohmygod Ohmygod,” she panted, grinding against him in a desperate circle. “Please. Oooh fuck.”

“Are you going to run from me again?” he panted raggedly, his voice low and demanding, and it skittered over every nerve ending in her body, lighting it up like a Christmas tree.

“N-no,” Shaun sobbed, pressing into him. “Please!”

“Are you going to be a good girl and take this dick however I want to give it to you?” he snarled into the heat of her neck.

She nodded frantically, inhaling the intoxicating scent of him.

Clamping down on him where he was pressed so deep, she felt his cock jump and he groaned into her ear.

His hand found her breast half hidden beneath the sweatshirt and palmed it fully, then his fingers pinched her nipple sharply, and again she tightened around him with a gasp.

“You’re so naughty. You want this so bad, don’t you darlin’? ”

“Yes,” she sobbed, nodding. “Yes, Kasey.”

“I told you I’d follow you,” he whispered roughly into the skin of her neck as he started to move again, hard, brutal thrusts that sent him as deep as he could possibly go. “I can’t stay away, Shaun. I can’t.”

Wrapping her legs around his hips, she lifted to meet each thrust, and when his mouth found her nipple again, she detonated like a bomb.

Her back arched, her legs shook, stars burst behind her tightly clenched eyelids, and the cry that was torn from her throat was half sob.

In some part of her brain, she registered his answering growl of approval as she closed around him again and again, even as he continued to piston his hips, driving into her until he came with a rough shout.

Her wrists were released, and she pulled them from above her head, wrapping her arms around Kasey’s waist, splaying her hands wide on the back of his shirt.

Her breathing was ragged as she pressed her face into the crook of his neck, her lips moving against the pulse that fluttered wildly, his own breathing none too steady.

Aftershocks fluttered through both of them, and still they lay locked together on the floor as their breathing returned to normal.

Her phone, which had clattered to the floor earlier, started ringing, the buzzing from the vibration muted from the carpet. Stretching her hand out, she grasped it and swiped to answer, bringing it to her ear and doing her best to not sound out of breath as she asked, “Go time?”

“Go time,” Chase’s voice came across the line, a mix of fear and excitement in his tone. “She still has a way to go, so I’ll let you know when it’s closer.”

“I’ll see you guys soon,” she said, then let out a heavy sigh when she hung up the phone, letting it fall back to the carpet near her head.

Kasey had raised up onto his elbows above her, his gray-blue gaze steady on her face as she turned back to look at him.

His fingers were combing through the mess of curls surrounding her head, and she couldn’t stop the blush that stained her cheeks, because he was still buried inside her.

Wiggling slightly beneath him, she stammered, “Well, this is awkward. Kasey, I need to get up.”

“Why did you run, Shaun?”

Groaning, she squeezed her eyes shut. “Kasey. Please let’s not do this right now.”

“I don’t think there’s a better time to do this, darlin’,” he murmured, and she hated how much she liked the feel of his chest rumbling against hers as he spoke, or the husky, intimate way his words touched her. “I want to know what I did to make you run away.”

“Nothing!” she exclaimed, throwing her arms wide and letting them fall to the carpet on either side of them. “Nothing, Kasey. You did nothing. I came home because Zoey was close to going into labor—”

“I told you to stop lying to me,” he growled, pinning her head between his hands and forcing her to look at him. Glaring up at him, her lips tightened into a hard line. “You ran. Plain and simple. Don’t try and spin it any other way.”

Pressing his hips between her legs, she gasped as she felt him fill her again.

“I didn’t know if you’d gotten into a wreck on the side of that damn mountain.

I didn’t know if you’d been kidnapped by some creep.

I had to walk up to that vacation rental and ask your parents where you’d disappeared to, because when I’d sent you off after breakfast, it was with the understanding that you were coming back to me.

” Braced on his elbows on either side of her, he moved his hips, sliding in and out of her slowly, leisurely.

Biting her lip, her eyelids fluttered closed for a heartbeat before he pressed his mouth to hers.

Kissing her until she was breathless, he finally released her lips and whispered huskily, “To this, Shaun.”
