Epilogue
Cory
Ever since last week when I was attacked by a werewolf from that rival pack that’s been sniffing around, I’ve been on edge. The encounter left me with more than just physical wounds; it shook me to my core. The constant sense of danger, the feeling of being watched, and the lingering pain from the attack have kept me in a heightened state of alertness.
But there’s something else that’s been bothering me, something I can’t quite shake. A scent—a woman’s scent—has been driving me crazy. I have no idea who she is, but the scent is intoxicating, filling my thoughts and haunting my senses. I’ve tried to track it down, to find her, but so far, I’ve had no luck. It’s like she’s vanished into thin air.
I’m sitting at Luna’s Moon, nursing a drink and trying to relax, but it’s no use. My mind keeps wandering back to that scent. I close my eyes, inhaling deeply, hoping to catch a whiff of it again, but it’s not there. It’s maddening.
“Cory, you okay?” Jake asks, sliding into the seat next to me. His concern is evident, and I appreciate it, but I can’t help feeling restless.
“Yeah, just… trying to get my head straight,” I reply, taking a sip of my drink. “Still on edge after that attack.”
Jake nods, understanding in his eyes. “I get it. It’s been rough lately.”
“You can say that again.” I down the rest of my drink. “There’s something else, though. There’s this scent… a woman’s scent. It’s been driving me crazy. I can’t get it out of my head.”
Jake raises an eyebrow, a knowing look on his face. “A scent, huh? Maybe it’s your mate.”
The word hits me like a punch to the gut. A mate? The thought hadn’t even crossed my mind. Could it be? Is that why I’m so obsessed with finding her?
“I don’t know,” I say, shaking my head. “I can’t find her. The scent’s gone, and it’s driving me insane.”
Jake places a reassuring hand on my shoulder. “We’ll help you find her, Cory. If she’s your mate, we’ll find her. Just stay focused and don’t give up.”
I nod, trying to take his words to heart. “Thanks, Jake. I just… I need to find her. It feels like I’m missing a part of myself.”
“We’ll figure it out,” Jake says confidently. “For now, let’s focus on keeping everyone safe and finding out what the hell Elias and his pack want.”
I let out a low growl. I almost want to find the werewolf who attacked me more than I do the woman.
Almost.
I sniff. That scent, though… It’s just so damn tempting…
