Chapter 28
Chapter Twenty-Eight
VERA
We didn’t join the mile high club on the flight home like I’d hoped, but I did get to hold her leg and kiss her, so it was still a great flight.
When we got home, we’d gone our separate ways for a few days. We both needed to catch up on sleep and work things. Life had gotten a little crazy, so we hadn’t seen each other for almost a week.
She called me every night before bed and I’d text her in the morning. Other than that, it was waves and quick hello’s at work.
I was finally getting time to breathe at work, so I decided to take an extra long lunch and go see Cara. She’d been working through her lunch, but I was determined to make her take a break, even for five minutes.
I missed her. I’d gotten spoiled in Bali, seeing her everyday and sleeping next to her. Realistically, I knew coming back would be different, but that didn’t mean I was happy about it.
I’d hoped I would’ve gotten to see her more often than I had been, but I understood that work came first. She had a lot of catching up to do, as did I.
When I walked towards her office, Eloise waved a quick hello. I waved back, but kept my focus on Cara’s office. As nice as Eloise was, I was only there to see one woman. My woman.
I was going to knock, but I saw her pacing back and forth on the phone, so I decided to give her a little more time, and give myself more time to stare at her.
For a minute, I just stood there and watched her. My woman was a force to be reckoned with. One of my favorite versions of her was when she was at work. For starters, she looked sexy as hell in a tight skirt and a slick ponytail. But watching her be in control was such a turn on.
I knocked on her door when she hung up the phone. Her face lit up when she looked up and saw me, and I felt like I’d won the lottery with that smile.
“Vera. Hi. What are you doing here?”
“I’m on my lunch break. Can I come in?” I asked, showing her the container of food I was holding.
She nodded and waved me in. “Yes, of course. I’m sorry things have been a little chaotic this week. Playing catch up is never fun. I’m afraid I don’t have time to eat lunch today, but please feel free to hang out and eat yours.”
She turned to her computer and started typing away. I admired her work ethic. It was one of the things that made me fall for her even more, but I needed to teach her about balance.
I sat the container down and rounded her desk, pulling her chair away from the computer and spinning it towards me. I gripped the arms and leaned down so close I could feel her breath on me.
“Vera.” she said breathlessly.
“Princesa. It’s time to take a break. You’ve been working hard, and I miss you. Take a break and eat the lunch I brought for you, and if you’re good, I’ll let you get back to work instead of taking you home and putting those fingers to work with something else like I want to do. Si?”
A little whimper escaped her before she closed the distance between us and kissed me, wrapping her arms around me. I wanted to sit her on the desk and eat her as my lunch, but anyone could’ve walked in and she really needed to eat something that wasn’t a salad.
I broke the kiss and smiled when she wiped her lipstick from the corner of my mouth. “You don’t play fair. Now I want to take you home!”
I chuckled. “Later. Right now, you need to take a break and eat.”
“How about Friday night? Things should be calmed down by then. We can get drinks, and then dessert at your place? I have a meeting outside of the office so we could meet around seven?”
“Hmm.” I hummed. “Dessert sounds nice. It’s a date. But for now, lunch. Eat, princesa.”
“Yes, ma’am. What is it today? I’ve missed your abuela’s cooking.”
?Ay dios mío! What was she trying to do to me? I cleared my throat, finding it harder to not skip work for the rest of the day.
“It’s called a wet burrito. It has chicken, cheese, chili sauce, and it’s topped with tomatillo, cilantro, and chilis.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Wet burrito? Sounds kinky.”
There was my proof. She was most definitely trying to kill me. “Princesa, eat your lunch, si?”
She smiled and took the container I handed her, moaning with the first bite. I bit my lip and tried to hold myself together. “Maybe I should stop bringing you food if you’re going to sound like that. How am I expected to get any work done?”
She rolled her eyes and we continued eating in a comfortable silence. She took a few more bites before taking a sip of water, smiling happily. “This is amazing. Tell your abuela thank you for me.”
I smiled. “I’d tell her, but she didn’t make it. I did.”
She looked up at me and raised her brows. “You made it? It’s incredible.”
I nodded. “I did. I’m glad you enjoy my wet burrito.” I winked.
“I walked right into that one, didn’t I? I did enjoy it though. It was delicious.”
“I’m glad you think so, princesa.”
“I don’t know how I can ever thank you enough. I was starving.”
“Oh, I can think of a few ways you can thank me, but I’ll settle for a kiss for now.”
She smiled and walked over to where I was sitting in the chair. She placed her hands on the arms of the chair and leaned in close. “I’m nothing if not accommodating to someone’s needs,” she whispered. “Bésame, Vera.”
Holy shit I was in trouble with that one. I did exactly as I was told and kissed her, letting it consume me. I tasted the hint of vanilla on her lip gloss and my knees threatened to give out.
“Hey, Cara— Oh shit, sorry. I didn’t know you were busy.”
We both jumped at the sound of Eloise’s voice, and Cara groaned with irritation. Eloise’s face said she wasn’t sorry at all, with a smirk stretching wide. Cara gave her a look that had Eloise throwing her hands up in surrender and backing out of the office.
Cara groaned, standing up and fixing her skirt. “I’m sorry about that. I better get back to work.”
I stood up and grabbed her waist, leaning in to kiss her nose. “Don’t be sorry, princesa. It was fun. I’ll let you get back to work, but please eat the rest of your lunch before it gets cold.”
She nodded and shooed me out of her office, annoyed that I had to return to work instead of dragging her home to finish what she’d started.
