Chapter 70 #2
Leo stared intently at his fortune, and I could have sworn that his face was red. He popped the cookie into his mouth and my gaze lingered on his lips.
“What does yours say?” I asked before I could stop myself.
He cleared his throat. “I’m going to the restroom.” He was out of his seat before I could say anything, his fortune crumpled in his hand.
I sat back in my seat, my heart beating like I’d just sprinted a mile. It was still racing when Leo returned to the table, a to-go bag of food for Lucy in hand.
“You ready?”
I nodded and stood. “I’ll get the check.”
He waved. “Don’t worry. I already paid.”
“Excuse me?” My voice deepened, my alpha surging. He wanted to take care of my beta, not the other way around.
Leo gave me a devastating wink. “Better luck next time.”
What. The. Fuck.
I sputtered as I followed him to the exit, snagging the to-go bag out of his hand.
“Did you even have to go to the bathroom?”
Leo laughed at my outrage. “Nah.”
“We could have split the check.”
He threw me a knowing look. Yeah, as if I would ever agree to splitting the check.
I rolled my shoulders, irritated that I had been bested by his plan, when I caught the light floral scent of my omega.
I stopped abruptly and spun around, looking for her.
Why hadn’t she called us to say she was here?
“What is it?” Leo asked.
“I can scent Lucy.”
He pulled out his phone. “Huh. She didn’t text.”
“Maybe she came in through the back with Summer?”
Leo shrugged. “Let’s go check.”
I followed him back the way we came. No one stopped us, so we walked down the hallway toward the kitchen. Even with the scent of food in the air, my alpha detected Lucy right away. I jerked my head at one of the office doors and pushed it open.
I didn’t know what I expected to find inside, but it wasn’t Lucy and Summer sitting at a desk, giggling, a pile of fortune cookies and empty food containers in front of them.
“What do we have here?” I crossed my arms.
Lucy whipped her head up with a gasp.
Leo grinned as he cocked his head. “Are you getting into trouble, pretty girl?”
She shook her head, looking decidedly guilty.
Summer snorted. “That’s my cue to go.” She stopped on her way to the door. “Actually, no. The three of you should go because I don’t even want to think about what’s going to happen in here if you stay.”
Lucy’s cheeks heated, and she shoved her friend. “We’re going, we’re going. Thanks for your assistance. You ready, boys?” She breezed by us, providing no explanation for why she had been hiding in the office and not stuck in traffic.
I glanced at Leo and he just shook his head. “I think we’ve been played.”
We followed Lucy back through the restaurant. “What did your fortune cookie say?” I asked.
“I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.”
My cheeks heated at his words. Fuck, my mind was in the gutter.
We exchanged small crumpled slips of paper.
Kiss him. No context. No reason. Just do it. See what happens.
Leo’s sharp inhale and deepening scent went straight to my cock. We locked eyes, and his cheeky smile and cocked eyebrow told me we were on the same wavelength. Giddy nerves sparked through me as I reached out and took his hand, feeling like a teenager again.
The cool night air washed over us as we stepped outside, but it did little to clear my head. He ushered Lucy and me to a small cove on the side of the building, hidden from the sidewalk by a leafy tree.
We crowded around our omega, her body pressed between ours, and I gripped her jaw. “Were you ever stuck in Briar’s Landing?”
Lucy bit her lip to stop from smiling as she shook her head.
Leo’s fingers twisted in her hair. “Our fortune cookies were weirdly pointed. You wouldn’t have had anything to do with that, would you?”
“The fortune cookies here are always very unique,” Lucy said.
“I think the fortunes had some help this time around,” I growled.
Leo hummed as he reached up to run his fingers through my hair. “It seems like our omega wanted to make sure we got a certain message.”
My breath hitched, heart skipped.
Message fucking received.
“Too bad she decided to be naughty and lie to us instead of just talking to us.” I shook my head with mock sadness. “Then she could have avoided her punishment.”
Lucy’s lips parted in outrage. “I wouldn’t have had to scheme if you two weren’t being so slow about it.”
“Oh, pretty girl, that’s no excuse.” Leo’s low voice went straight to my cock, and I knew Lucy could feel it with the way I was pressed against her.
“No excuse at all.” I moved my hands slowly down her body until I was cupping her ass.
I hadn’t been thinking clearly, though, because it meant my hands were level with Leo’s crotch.
I breathed in sharply when the beta shifted his hips forward until his hard cock pressed against my hand.
Lucy perfumed, and Leo’s scent deepened. Fuck, they smelled so perfect together.
Leo arched an eyebrow, keeping full eye contact as he slowly took my hand and turned it so I was cupping his erection.
My chest fluttered with anticipation. Were we really doing this?
Lucy practically trembled with excitement as I ran my other hand up Leo’s body, skimming along his muscular chest until I reached his face and cupped it.
I shifted forward. He met me halfway and then—
A brush of lips. Eyes drifting closed.
He was sweetness and spice on my tongue, his lips soft but firm as they moved confidently against mine.
I was panting once we pulled apart, and Leo’s expression was all lazy satisfaction as he brushed his thumb along his lower lip.
Lucy squealed, her body practically vibrating as she bounced on her toes. “Okay, looks like you have this under control. I’m going to get going and you two have the best night. Bye!”
I snorted and snagged her around the waist, pinning her back to my chest. “Leo, what do you think about our omega trying to run off?”
He shook his head as he ran a slow hand up her body, skimming her breasts until he collared her neck. “I think it’s cute she thinks she’s not coming with us.”
My breath caught at the way he emphasized coming, and his satisfied smirk told me he knew exactly what he was doing.
The beta might just be my undoing.
