A Song for Us (The Billionaire Brothers of NY Duology #2)

By Krista Swanson

Chapter 1

Chase

Her mouth around my dick while on her knees in my office should have been the sexiest thing I’d seen. She was hot. Beyond hot. Her long dark hair hung along the side of her face as her green eyes peered up at me.

The blouse she wore was unbuttoned at the top, enough for me to see her substantial tits bounce in her ivory bra as her head slid up and down.

Don’t get me wrong, my dick was hard. Rock hard inside her mouth. She was gonna make me shoot my load any minute.

I didn’t want it to be her.

“Fuck!”

I exploded down her throat with my eyes closed, the picture of someone else in my mind the entire time. Was I an asshole? Absolutely. Did I care? Not one bit. She was here of her own accord; I did not coerce her. I was not about to turn down a blowjob.

The best part? She was a temp. She was here for another day or two, and I’d never see her again.

Of course it was risky doing this at work. Being the boss though, or one of them, had its perks now and then. Plus, locks on doors were a great invention.

She joined me on the couch as I zipped up my pants. My message was clear. We were done. As she sat next to me with a sultry look still all over her face, it seemed she wasn’t getting the message.

“Yeah, I think I have a call now,” I said to her as I stood.

She rushed to button her shirt and followed me to the door. It was open for her before she made it, my arm hanging across the top as I waited. She was putting on her heels as she made her way over, an expectant look on her face.

“Want to have lunch or something?” she asked.

“I can’t, I have meetings all day.” I opened the door more, hoping she would get the hint. “Maybe I’ll stop by later.”

Her tight-lipped smile told me she finally understood.

After closing the door, I leaned against it, waiting for the relaxed feeling to hit me. It should have already. Orgasms did that to the human body, it was why I did this. To relax.

It didn’t happen.

The tense feeling in my chest hadn’t gone away. The muscle fatigue was still there. Frustrated, I moved on to the next best thing.

There were few things I appreciated my father for. One of them was his old-fashioned, maddening enforcement of having a bar in his office. Like on the show Mad Men, which portrayed a life from decades ago. Gage and I now had them, as co-CEOs. Like it was some kind of reward or something.

It was at times like this a drink came in handy.

The warm brown liquid warmed my throat all the way to my belly. I sat at my desk waiting for it to do its thing. That was when my phone rang.

“What’s up, Simon?”

Simon was my assistant. I liked him, not sure he liked me. Working for me had to be…difficult. Without him, I’d be an even worse Parker Financial employee.

And yeah, I was an heir to the company.

“Your brother said you’re late for a meeting with him.”

Fuck.

I looked at my watch—only five minutes late. So typical of Gage to make me feel late.

“Thanks, tell him I’m on my way.”

When I got to his office, I walked right in. He was on his phone, so I took a seat in front of his desk and waited.

I didn’t want to be like him. He was too stuffy and too conceited.

When he walked down the halls at the office, everyone was afraid of him.

Or at the very least, they talked about him behind his back.

Most of the people we worked with enjoyed spending time with me.

The women always had a smile, and the guys a fist bump.

What I wasn’t sure they had for me was respect.

Gage had tried to explain it to me in the past. But no one liked to listen to their big brother, especially when he was your boss. My father made it clear Gage was the higher-up when he handed the company over, and my brother hasn’t stopped rubbing it in my face.

“Nice of you to join me,” Gage said once he hung up the phone.

“Yeah, I was otherwise occupied, had a meeting that went over.”

He only shook his head at me. Simon briefed me on this meeting yesterday, but to be honest, I couldn’t remember what it was about. Gage threw some files toward me on his desk and started babbling about some shit.

I knew I should be listening. I was trying. There was a lot to learn from him, I was willing to admit that.

“Are you even listening, Chase?” Gage asked.

Well, I said I was going to try. Never said it would happen. What I was really thinking about was where his assistant was. I wanted her to be in on our meeting.

“Where’s Maryellen?”

That stopped him in his tracks as he looked up from the papers he was shuffling through and stared me dead in the eye. He was working hard to figure out my angle, but I kept my face blank.

“Why?” he asked.

I leaned back against the chair I was in, attempting to look nonchalant. She wasn’t at her desk when I came to his office, which was an utter disappointment. Seeing her before having to walk into this meeting would have made it a bit more bearable.

“I thought she sat in on these, that’s all. No reason.”

All he did was shake his head at me as he returned his attention to the paperwork we both should be addressing.

“So, as we spoke about a few months ago, I’d like to move you over to our sales department, put you in charge eventually. I don’t think doing it right off the bat would be in anyone’s best interest, do you?”

My feet thudded on the floor as I shot up from the chair. My hands landed on the edge of his desk as I stood waiting for him to look at me.

He didn’t.

“What are you saying, Gage? Am I being demoted? Are you making me a salesman for our own company?” I paced across the room and my loud footsteps echoed against the walls of his office. “I know Dad put you in charge, but fuck, man, this company is ours. I get a say, Gage. It’s not just you.”

He sat smugly in his chair, leaning back and finally watching me.

“Are you done?” he asked.

Once I came to a stop with my hands on my hips, I gave him a curt nod. I couldn’t even look his way as I tried to control my breathing.

“Have you ever stepped foot on the sales floor?” He sat waiting for my response.

When he got nothing from me, he continued.

“Listen, Chase. We discussed this. It shouldn’t come as a surprise.

We both think this is the place for you, but you need to learn the department first. It won’t take long, I do believe it’s where you should be.

I think it’ll click. Don’t forget it includes a ton of travel, but I also think it will be good for you, keep you from getting bored. ”

I turned my back on him and looked out the floor to ceiling windows of his office, contemplating his words.

This was what I wanted, or so I thought.

Why was I giving him such a hard time? He’s been going through a rough patch lately, I knew I should be cutting him some slack.

He literally lost his best friend only a couple months ago.

He and Harper dealt with their own injuries in the car accident that took Jared’s life and were left mourning a dear friend who had worked here.

Gage was right, I didn’t know much about the department other than reading the monthly reports.

“You’ll have a nice office, don’t worry about that,” he continued, a soft chuckle in his voice.

As I should. I’d never say that aloud to him. He wouldn’t agree, not until I proved myself worthy.

“Hey…” Gage’s voice was closer than I expected, and I jumped a little. “You OK, Chase?”

He made his way to the windows without me realizing. Him worrying about me made me feel guilty. I should be the one concerned about him. Shit, the entire staff was still fucked up from losing Jared.

“Uh, yeah, I’m fine.”

Even though we discussed this as my new role in the company, I had my doubts I’d be capable of it.

Gage knew as well as I did that my role so far has been a bullshit one.

I showed up at work and only occasionally completed something of importance.

More times than not I was faking it, yet I didn’t want that anymore.

I wanted to put more into this business now since Dad had legitimately handed it over to the two of us.

But there was no way I was letting him know any of this.

Facing him, I decided I’d end this meeting on a more positive note. “How’s Harper?”

His face softened at the mention of her name. My brother was in love.

“She’s great. We’re heading down to that beach town in New Jersey she loves in a couple weeks.

I won’t be in the office on that Friday or Monday, you should probably know that.

Did Simon tell you? Make sure you’re around to take the reins, OK?

” He headed back to his desk. Turning back to me, he had a shit grin on his face.

“What, dude?” I asked.

“So, I might be doing something this weekend…”

Holy…shit.

“Holy shit!” I ran to his side and slapped his back. “No fucking way, man, are you serious?” Then I wrapped him in a bear hug. “This is awesome, Gage. I mean it. I love Harper, and I love her for you.” He hugged me back, harder than I expected.

And it was nice.

Separating, we smiled at each other, a reminder of a long-ago brotherly love rushing back. He knew so little about me now. It was intentional; I liked it better that way for some reason. But this felt good.

“Regarding the job, I’m good and really looking forward to this change. When do I start?” I asked.

Trying to convince myself this was what I wanted was the only way to keep going.

We discussed a few important details before he sent me on my way. Our interaction had me in a better mood than when I’d started my day, which wasn’t the norm when leaving his office.

As I walked into the hall, I was pleasantly surprised to see a striking blonde sitting at her desk in the foyer.

The girl I’ve been trying to forget about but can’t seem to.

I took a moment to appreciate the view as she sat working, engrossed in what she was doing, unaware of my presence.

Her hair was in that tight bun she usually wore.

She said it kept her looking professional.

Today she had on a tight black skirt and a white sweater with a high neck, and I knew it would be clinging to her breasts.

While she sat, she never wore her jacket, so I’d get the chance to see the curve of those breasts as I got closer.

“Hey, beautiful,” I said quietly as I approached her desk.

Her bright blue eyes snapped up from her computer and scanned the area for anyone who might have heard me.

“Chase,” she whispered. “I’ve asked you not to do that here.”

Damn, those tits looked better than I expected under that thin white sweater. I sat on the edge of her desk, making it clear I wasn’t going anywhere. A pink glow appeared on her cheeks as she tried to ignore me by staring at her computer screen. But I knew better.

I got her hot and bothered.

“I’m meeting some of the guys at that karaoke bar tonight, you know the one. We went there a few months ago. Wanna come?”

No words. All she did was continue to scan the area with nervous eyes, especially Gage’s door, while trying to make it look like she was working. I reached out and gently took her hand in mine.

“Maryellen,” I said, my voice now a whisper. The skin of her slender hand was like velvet as her fingers lingered in my hold. She lost herself in me for a moment, forgetting where she was. “I miss you.”

Just as quick, she tore her hand from mine as it returned to her keyboard.

Then Gage’s door opened.

I didn’t move. It would have been worse if I had. Instead, I turned to look at my brother with a wide grin. He understood me. He knew this was what I did. Acting this way with Maryellen shouldn’t make it any different.

To him.

But it did to me.

“Chase, don’t you have anything better to do?” Gage asked.

And that was exactly the response I expected.

“Currently, no.”

“Well, I know Maryellen does. Can you let her get back to work? Besides, come with me so I can show you the progress on your new office.” Gage’s words faded as he walked farther down the hall.

Turning my attention back to the blonde bombshell in front of me, all I could see was a pinched brow and downturned lips as she watched her boss walk away from us. If I had any interest in winning her back, this was not the way.

“Hey,” I started. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you. I’ll, um, see you later, OK?” I slipped from her desk and started in the same direction as my brother.

“Chase.”

I stopped in my tracks, then walked back toward her desk. I leaned in close, making sure no one could hear the words meant only for her.

“Listen, I don’t want to do this to you, I really don’t. I’m sorry, Mare, I am. I shouldn’t keep putting you in this position. Just know, when I say I miss you, there aren’t truer words.”

I turned from her and kept on walking.
