31. Prince Cole
Chapter 31
Prince Cole
“I saw that you were perfect, and so I loved you.
Then I saw that you were not perfect
and I loved you even more.”
— Angelita Lim
A s if in slow motion, Claire’s lifeless body crumples to the floor, and Rafe’s confused expression tells me everything I need to know.
It wasn’t him who stabbed Claire.
Davina discovered her first power.
She’s able to move objects with her mind.
“ Damn , Princess.” Rafe’s murmured words cut through the chaos, snapping me out of my frozen state.
I watch as Davina stares, her eyes vacant, her body paralyzed. She stands rigid beside me, her face a mask of shock, blinking rapidly as though trying to shake off a terrible nightmare.
Her breaths come in shallow, panicked gasps, and I reach out tentatively, my fingers grazing her arm. She flinches violently, and a hollow ache spreads through my chest.
“Hey,” I say softly. “Look at me.”
Her eyes snap shut, and a muffled sob escapes her—a soft, broken sound that makes my fists clench.
An unbearable weight presses against my ribs. “Do you hear me?” I press gently, hoping my voice reaches her.
She nods and hiccups, her cheeks wet with tears.
It feels as though my heart is being squeezed by an invisible hand, crushing the breath from my lungs.
I can see it in her eyes, the silent, soul-crushing realization—she didn’t want this.
Davina doesn’t want to have blood on her hands.
I’m not quick enough to catch her before she hits the ground.
