Chapter 10 #2

Vampires had attempted to kill Clint with their bite before. They’d rarely managed to sink their teeth into him, but when they had, it’d fucking hurt. And Clint hadn’t wanted to give Luke his blood, not really. He’d been half hoping that he could talk Luke out of his demand once the spell was over.

But then he’d seen Luke limp on the table, the color drained from his skin and his eyes a shade of pale red. He’d worried that Luke was about to spring into a bloodlust, but he’d just laid there, helpless.

And that had solidified that Clint couldn’t go back on his promise to feed Luke.

The pierce of Luke’s fangs was a sharp pain that immediately dulled to an ache. After only a few seconds, Luke moaned with enthusiasm and slid his legs and arms around Clint.

Clint braced for Luke’s grip to turn into a vise-like hold, but Luke clung to him, holding on in a needy way instead of dominating. Luke continued to softly moan and he was pressed against in Clint in such a way that Clint felt his every swallow.

Originally, Clint had pulled Luke to him so that he could keep one hand on the center of Luke’s back. If Luke wasn’t capable of stopping himself, then Clint was prepared to blast him with a fire spell. But their position also meant that Clint had his hand on Luke’s bare skin.

Luke’s muscles were lean, his skin ethereally smooth to the touch, though Clint found a faint scar underneath his left shoulder blade.

On his right hip, just at the edge his black pants, were the fang marks that must have led to his making, which was an intimate spot.

Clint pushed two fingers into Luke’s waistband to trace out the full bite scar and found himself a teensy bit jealous of a sire who might not even be alive.

Had Luke’s maker cared about him? Were they still in his life?

Would anyone have cared if Luke died on the table in the middle of Clint’s spell?

For that matter, would anyone have given a damn if Clint had passed in the fight with the thieves?

The few he owed would mourn the loss of their chits, the ones who owed him would be relieved, but was Bastian the only one who would miss him?

My apprentice is the last one I want to think of with Luke in my arms like this.

Clint started to adjust his hips back as his cock thickened.

Feeding a vampire was far more intimate a gesture, and running his hand over Luke, caressing him in gentle ways, and feeling his moans as much as hearing them were thrumming straight down to his dick.

And Luke hadn’t used an ounce of his own powers to affect Clint’s mind.

Clint checked, seeking any sense that his developing lust wasn’t his own, but it was such a quiet, natural presence that he was certain he was the only author of it.

Don’t lose your mind to the feed. He might not even mean to kill you. You have to be ready to stop him.

Luke licked the wound he’d made. In a breathy voice, he said, “You taste like all my favorite things.”

Fucking hell, he must have been starving. His voice could compete with a siren. Clint cleared his throat and put his hands on Luke’s knees. He’d meant to pull Luke’s legs off of him, but he accidentally locked gazes with him.

The pale red had become a glittering ruby. As they stared into the depths of each other, Luke’s eyes shifted back to green, though they were a more brilliant shade than they’d been at any point that night.

Slowly, Luke gave him a sly smile. “You’re not going to accuse me of making you horny, are you?”

Oh, he had a perfectly wonderful bratty side.

Clint returned his grin and used his grip to pull Luke’s hips up tight against his groin.

Several layers were in their way, but this was close enough for now, especially since Luke let out the tiniest yelp of surprise.

“You are definitely to blame,” Clint said in a low rumble. “Just not supernaturally so.”

Luke laughed softly.

“But unfortunately, we can’t linger.” Clint tugged Luke’s legs off of him. He started to reach for his arms, but Luke released him on his own. “Are you good now?”

“Better than I’ve been in weeks.” Luke hopped off the table and grabbed his shirt from where he’d left it. As he slid it on, he said, “There’s a chance they know you know where they are, but with the sort of set up they had, I don’t think they’ll move.”

“You saw their ritual space?”

“Clear of any obstacles with the box sitting in the middle.” Luke finished touching different places on his shirt and pants, checking his hidden pockets.

He had far more than Clint had found when he searched him back in the tower.

“They had three circles and runes chalked out on the floor. I think they plan on binding Valgaruz.”

“Then they’re more reckless than I thought.” Clint picked up the duffle bag that Luke had filled with Oz’s tomes.

“You think they can’t pull it off?” Luke asked.

“If they do, they’ll have a terror on a leash and if they don’t, they’ll be unlocking the door on a demon that has every reason to kill them and me.”

“Guess we better get moving then.” Luke headed for the door. He had a bounce in his step that he hadn’t had before. “I’m keeping my eyes closed when you drive this time.”

“Wise choice,” Clint replied. “Because I was holding back and we no longer have time to spare.”
