Epilogue

THEY MARRIED IN a splashy society wedding that was the talk of the town, but they said their true vows before—in that little room. When they thought of their wedding, they thought of that.

Because they were happy to give the public that which would suit Valli-Ascione, but it was not the truth of them.

Together, they slowly rebuilt their father’s destroyed legacies. Until, as the years past, they built their own legacy. Not in any boardrooms or shipping containers, but in their home. The castle on the hill. Full to the brim of animals, and then a handful of children.

And through both, they learned how to love, and how to show it. How to believe and hope, even in spite of the challenges and griefs of life.

They encouraged their children to be their truest selves, and accepted each of them exactly as they were, no matter what challenges arose. They protected and stood up for each other. And when they fought—ice and fire—they always made up on the foundation of love they spent their entire lives building. Showing up, day after day.

It was the new Valli-Ascione legacy, rising from the ashes of the old.

Made with love. The kind that lasted lifetimes.
