chapter 4

Chapter 4 — What Was Never Said

The rain returned.

---

It came suddenly.

Without warning.

Like most things in Kavya’s life.

---

She stood by the window again.

Watching.

Listening.

Thinking.

---

Aarav hadn’t come home.

---

Not unusual.

Not surprising.

---

Just… clearer now.

---

Her phone lit up again.

The same unknown number.

---

“He’s with her again.”

---

Kavya stared at the message.

This time longer.

---

“You really don’t mind?”

---

Her fingers hovered over the screen.

For a second.

Two.

---

Then she typed—

“It’s none of my concern.”

---

And sent it.

---

The reply came instantly.

---

“You’re his wife.”

---

Kavya looked at the words.

Read them once.

Twice.

---

Then slowly—

she locked her phone again.

---

Wife.

---

The word felt unfamiliar.

Heavy.

Almost… misplaced.

---

Because being a wife meant something, didn’t it?

Presence.

Care.

Belonging.

---

Things she had never asked for.

And he had never given.

---

So what exactly was she?

---

Kavya didn’t have an answer.

---

And for the first time—

she wondered if that was the problem.
