Chapter 13 #2
“That’s because even though your non-mannered ass didn’t make me her godfather she knows I’m the closest thing she has to one besides her uncles.”
He laughed. Ol’ antisocial ass nigga. “Glad you said that; you got that two for one. Godfather ass nigga.”
We shared a laugh right before my eyes went back to Caya. She was smiling and enjoying herself with my sister and her friend Karim. I think that’s what shorty’s name was. I didn’t know what they were talking about, but Caya was giggling her ass off and making my heart smile right with it.
“You know you gotta stop playing with your vegetables, right?”
“I been told him that shit.” Reminisce entered the pool on the side of me.
“Who says I’m playing with them?” I looked from Kinga to Reminisce.
“The fact that niggas are still walking around,” Kinga responded, pulling from the cigar again.
“I’m letting people think I forgot about it. They start to get comfortable.” I glanced down at Kysler who was kicking her feet in the water like she was swimming.
“Well I think they’re extremely comfortable, don’t you? Time to shake it up, especially since you just made yourself my kid’s godfather. Can’t have you letting comfortable niggas slide.”
I laughed at his real funny ass. “Aight. I’ma run the baby mama’s name tonight.”
“Wait, first you stealing birth control, now you’re anointing yourself godfather? Yo, what’s with you, baby boy? You going through a midlife?” Reminisce asked.
I waved him off.
“What do you mean stealing birth control?” Kinga nearly choked in laughter.
“Who the fuck told you that?” I put my attention on my twin.
“Jade? Now say that shit ain’t true.” Rem crossed his arms, waiting on me to deny the claim. At this point him and Kinga were waiting.
“Nah, I didn’t steal shit. I popped them down the sink, one by one while she was in the shower and threw the packaging away.” I shrugged.
“Yo, what? The fuck did I just walk up on?” Kinga’s brother Oden walked over and took a seat next to his brother.
“Yo, you a nut, but I see the vision. Mr. Make That Shit Happen.” Kinga tapped the side of his forehead.
“By any means necessary.”
We kicked shit for a while longer before I went to find Caya. She’d been with the ladies most of the party, now it was my time. I was learning by nature I was a clingy ass nigga. It just took the right person to bring that out. Caya brought that out of me.
I found her laid out in a lawn chair, talking back and forth with Jade. I interrupted, making her get up and sit her thick ass right on my dick. Yeah, I missed her extroverted introverted ass. She had been kicking it all night.
“I see somebody missed me.” She melted back against me; my hand resting across her chest. She looked so fucking good today, every day, but in this fucking swimsuit silently inviting me to take her ass in the crib every time I looked at her.
The orange swimsuit and completely sheer coverup had been begging me to rip them up off her.
I spoke near her ear. “Yeah, we both did, while you just been dangling.”
“And so have you. Every time I looked up you either had a baby, a blunt, or a toddler in your arms.”
I laughed. “That’s a sign. I can’t help it if the kids love me.” The pool party was for the whole family, so that included the kids as well—Adonis, G’s twins, Kinga’s niece and his twins, as well as Sora’s daughter. A lotta fucking babies, but they all got passed around just as easy.
“That they do, but kids sense pure souls, baby.”
I kissed the side of her face. “I’on know nothing about a pure soul, bu?—”
“Not per se a pure soul, but they say kids are excellent judges of character. I don’t know how, but they know. You have a good heart and you’re a wonderful person, they see that too.” She attempted to nuzzle closer to me as if she could get any closer.
“I love the fuck outta you.” I pecked the side of her face again.
“You better.”
“Mama, Rennix, look.” Adonis called out to us, making us both look up. He dove into the pool about five seconds later. He went under then floated back up quickly.
“Where did he learn to swim?”
“While he was with my mother this summer. They were supposed to go on a cruise, but I didn’t like how long it would be. Two extra weeks plus the initial three was too long. I barely go that long without seeing him but not being able to talk to him either would kill me.”
I nodded, watching Adonis closely. Yes, he could swim, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable until he was out of the deep end.
“Uh, Rennix. Why are you over here and not over there with the men?” Jade asked, fake mugging me.
I waved her off. “Because I’m minding. And this is my business.” I grabbed a handful of Caya’s thigh even though she was trying to swat me away.
“We know this is your business, Rennix. But damn, let my good sis breathe.”
Beyah’s real funny ass butted in. “She is breathing.” Then I looked down at her. “Baby, you breathing, right?”
She laughed. “Yes, I’m breathing perfectly fine.”
“Ol’ in love asses. I can’t stand y’all.
” Jade waved us off while Beyah laughed.
She couldn’t talk stuff because she knew how it went.
I had seen her get down on baby bro plenty of times because he was too preoccupied or she just wanted that nigga’s attention.
At first I didn’t get it, but on my life, I swear I did now.
