North London Forever
Emirates Stadium — The Homecoming
The streets around the Emirates were already full three hours before the team bus arrived.
Red smoke.
Flags.
Chants echoing down Holloway Road.
Thousands of Arsenal supporters packed outside the stadium waiting to welcome home the Champions of Europe.
And sitting on the team bus crawling slowly through North London traffic, Leah Williamson genuinely felt overwhelmed again.
"You're crying before we've even arrived," Lia informed her calmly.
Leah looked horrified.
"I am not."
Beth glanced across the aisle.
"There are literal tears."
"Those are reflective emotions."
"That sentence means nothing."
Rude.
Very rude.
But unfortunately accurate.
The truth was Leah still hadn't emotionally recovered from Lisbon.
The trophy.
The afterparty.
The photo.
God.
The photo.
The internet still hadn't calmed down.
Neither had mainstream media.
Everywhere she looked:
Leah Williamson and girlfriend celebrate Champions League victory.
The viral embrace after Arsenal's historic win.
The soft side of Arsenal captain Leah Williamson.
It should've terrified her honestly.
Instead?
Somehow it just felt warm.
Because for the first time in her life she wasn't hiding anymore.
Still—
there was one thing making today feel slightly emptier.
Elle had supposedly flown back to New York early that morning for work.
At least that's what she'd told Leah.
Leah tried not to be dramatic about it.
Failed slightly.
"You're sulking," Beth observed.
"I'm literally existing."
"Sadly."
Fair.
Very fair.
Leah stared out the bus window toward the sea of Arsenal supporters lining the streets.
She understood why Elle left.
Work mattered.
Life mattered outside football.
But selfishly?
God, Leah wished she was here for this.
Because this wasn't just a trophy parade.
This was one of the happiest day of Leah's career - it was up there with Euro's 2022.
And the person she loved wasn't beside her.
The bus finally turned toward the Emirates.
And suddenly the noise became deafening.
Thousands of supporters screaming.
Flares everywhere.
Players standing on seats filming videos while staff completely lost control of the situation.
Leah looked out at the crowd and physically covered her mouth for a second.
Because God.
Arsenal.
Her Arsenal.
Still didn't feel real.
Then suddenly the bus slowed completely outside the stadium plaza.
Players began stepping off one by one onto the stage area while supporters lost their minds.
Leah followed behind Beth still clutching the Champions League trophy against her chest.
And the second she stepped outside—
the noise exploded.
Her name everywhere.
Chanted endlessly into the London sky.
Leah genuinely looked overwhelmed by it.
Then—
suddenly—
she froze.
Because standing near the barriers outside the Emirates in the middle of thousands of supporters— in the family area
was Elle.
Arsenal scarf around her neck.
Huge grin already spreading across her face.
Leah stopped walking completely.
Beth immediately noticed.
"Oh my God."
Leah blinked once like her brain physically failed to process it.
Because—
"She said she went to New York."
Katie looked over.
Then immediately started laughing.
"No way."
And suddenly Leah moved.
Fast.
Completely abandoning dignity and media training and literally everything else as she pushed through security barriers toward her.
The crowd realised what was happening almost immediately.
The screaming somehow got louder.
"Oh my GOD SHE'S HERE!"
"THAT'S THE GIRLFRIEND!"
"LEAH'S RUNNING!"
Hopeless.
Absolutely hopeless.
Elle barely had time to react before Leah reached her and wrapped both arms around her waist so quickly they nearly both fell sideways against the barrier.
"You lied," Leah laughed breathlessly against her shoulder.
Elle physically melted instantly hearing the happiness in her voice.
"Technically I omitted information."
Leah pulled back just enough to look at her properly.
Still smiling so hard it physically hurt.
"You stayed."
God.
That sentence.
Because suddenly Elle realised this wasn't about romance.
Not really.
This was about witnessing.
Being there for the moments that mattered most.
"I wasn't missing this," Elle whispered softly.
And somewhere around them the entire internet collectively lost its mind again as fans filmed Arsenal captain Leah Williamson holding her girlfriend like she'd just won another trophy entirely.
Beth walked past the scene shaking her head dramatically.
"She's actually gone."
"Completely," Katie agreed.
Meanwhile Leah still hadn't let go.
Not even slightly.
Her medal pressed against Elle's chest while supporters screamed around them and red smoke filled the air outside the Emirates.
And for one perfect overwhelming second—
everything in Leah's life existed together.
Arsenal.
Home.
Love.
The little girl inside her who only ever dreamed of football and belonging.
She had both now.
Finally.
Leah leaned down kissing Elle quickly despite the thousands of people surrounding them.
The crowd reaction was immediate.
Absolute chaos.
"Oh my GOD."
"THEY ARE INSANE."
"THIS IS BETTER THAN THE TROPHY."
Leah laughed helplessly against Elle's mouth before resting her forehead lightly against hers.
Then quietly—
"You know what's mad?"
"What?"
"I thought winning would be the best part of today."
The softness in her voice nearly undid Elle completely.
Because somehow after all the trophies and celebrations and noise—
Leah still looked at her like this was the thing grounding everything else.
And standing outside the Emirates beneath red smoke and North London chants while the city celebrated its captain, Leah Williamson realised something life-changing:
the dream was never just football anymore.
