Chapter 46
Three Months Later
I blow bubbles at Sully and Alice as they sit at the closest table to the water tank.
I give my all to the last show at The Pearl Kingdom.
In two days, Sully and I will fly to Germany to meet with his band and go on tour.
I already have gigs lined up in a handful of countries.
Since the music video, Sully and I have spent a few weeks together off and on as he needs to travel home for various reasons.
I can’t wait to see all his favorite places like I showed him all my stomping grounds in and around LA.
When I change into my regular clothes and leave the break room, the entire restaurant stands and applauds me. I blush, waving, and sink into a chair. My parents are there, and Mom wipes her eyes. “Sweetie, I loved your show.”
Dad nods, smiling. “You’re wonderful. A real-life mermaid.”
I couldn’t function for a moment. They’ve never seen my mermaid shows live. I don’t know if they’ve even seen any videos of mine without me shoving them under their noses before I gave up. I choke on my words but manage to say, “Thanks for coming. You don’t know what this means to me.”
Alice stands, tapping a spoon to her glass to settle everyone, and nods to give their attention toward Sully.
He smiles his thanks and takes my hand. “Veronica, since I’ve met you, it’s been the best part of my life.
You’re magic, fierce, and fearless. I love everything about you and…
” He falls to one knee and pulls a gorgeous ring out of his pocket.
It’s blue sapphire with silver shells on both sides.
“Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”
I gasp, my hands instinctively flying to my mouth. The room goes eerily quiet, and time feels like it’s holding its breath. Every gaze is on me, the weight of their attention undeniable.
I used to believe I had to face the world alone, that I was my own force of nature, invincible and self-reliant. But that version of me—the strong, independent woman—has faded, crumbled, and been left behind.
Now, everything feels different. With Sully, I see the world in vivid color.
We share nights of passion, city after city, as he performs and I stand by his side.
He’s my equal, my partner, helping me with my career as much as I help with his.
We fit together like two pieces of a puzzle, and it feels like fate has woven us together.
“Yes!” I say, and he places the ring on my finger.
He stands, and I kiss him fiercely, almost catching the room on fire with our passion. The restaurant is loud in applause, and someone in the back whistles.
Sully whisks me off my feet and spins me around. I giggle, wrapping my arms tighter around his neck. “I can’t wait to start my forever with you.”
He whispers in my ear, “You’re all I ever wanted, and I can’t wait to wake up to you every morning for the rest of my life, Schatz.”
We kiss again. I’m eager for our journey abroad.
After the tour and my cruise line commercial, I’ll plan our wedding, and then everything else can come as it may because I have my mermaid dreams and my handsome bass playing prince.
The future is wide open. I’m about to dive in for the first time with a giant smile and someone amazing holding my hand.
