113. Lily
LILY
What an honorable idiot he was.
To Hawleyhurst’s very minor credit, he at least stopped attacking while Seb spoke.
“Leave Lily out of this.” He rotated, keeping his back to the windows, to face Hawleyhurst. Lily was pleased to see blood seeping out of his bronze hair. “Let’s just talk. Please, can we just talk?”
Hawleyhurst stepped toward him, and he stepped back.
“Talk? Are you serious right now? You accused me of rape, and you want to talk?”
Lily, who was splitting her attention between their adversaries, saw Braithwhite stiffen at this revelation. His attention was fixed on Seb, but she could tell he wanted to interrupt Hawleyhurst.
“We’re so far past talking, Seb. Sorry.”
He clapped Fateful Lightning at Seb, and Lily only partly understood what happened next. Seb brought his arms together to summon a shield, but either he was too slow, or nothing happened. The beam hit him squarely in the chest, and with a blinding smash, he followed the pipe out the window.
Lily screamed.
