Chapter thirty-four

I’ve been home from the hospital for three weeks, and things are slowly going back to normal. I was able to convince Hayes to go back to work full time this week, he had just been stopping in and checking on things, but I finally had enough of his hovering. I love the man, but enough was enough. He carried me everywhere I needed to go for the first week, and I knew he needed it, so I left him. But once that second week came, I told him no more.
I’m currently sitting in my new writing shed that Hayes surprised me with. He filled me in on how the surprise was supposed to go as he was installing the chandelier. A chandelier in a shed! He went all out on the space; it is heated and cooled, he bought me a desktop, Cash and Shelby surprised me with a new laptop, there is a coffee and wine bar, and a cozy reading chair. My novel, the book that I didn’t want to tell anyone about, is a best seller. I just finished writing my second book, there was nothing to do in bed other than write.
Shelby and Cash found out they are having another little girl. Crosby was not happy when the frosting in the middle of the cupcakes were pink. I could tell that my big brother was nervous when he found out he is going to have two daughters, but I know he will continue to be the best dad to all of his kids. Shelby hired another manager at the diner, so she can try to take it easy for the rest of her pregnancy. She swears that she is making Cash get snipped. Cash ended up folding and making the appointment, for fear of his pregnant wife.
Tess’s work has been a buzz on social media. A few more influencers went into Linen and Lace, videoing their visit, and Tess has had non-stop orders since. She has hired a few more employees, so now her main focus is making the clothes. Stretch ending up paying her and I’s hospital bills. We both went to his house demanding to pay him back. He told us both, absolutely not. That he and his wife weren’t fortunate enough to have children and he was claiming us. I think Stretch claimed the whole town as his .
Scottie is back to work, having to go on leave after the shooting. Once he was cleared, he took another week off, and no one saw him. I’ve only seen him twice since I’ve been home, and each time was a quick visit. Tess refuses to talk about him, and when he stopped over, she quickly made her exit.
Crew’s Auto and Restoration is doing better than Hayes could have ever imagined. There is a wait list now a year long, for restoration projects. Travis stepped up in a big way while Hayes was home with me. The first thing Hayes did when he went back to work was rip up the original contract and hand Travis a new one. One that said General Manager. Hayes hired a receptionist to fill my roll, and even a bookkeeper to handle the invoices.
I close my laptop when I hear the back door open, and Rosie yells out for me. I walk out of my office and find the people that own my heart walking up to me. I take in Rosie’s crooked ponytail, Max with his tongue hanging out of the side of his mouth, and Hayes with his signature smirk, showing off his dimple.
It’s all because of them. Hayes brought me back to life. Rosie made me a mother. And Max…he brought a whole lot of laughter to this house.
