Chapter 17
“Congratulations again. I recommend making an appointment with your OB/GYN as soon as possible to confirm how far along you are. Make sure to drink plenty of water to help with dehydration. I also recommend coconut water as well as drinks like Powerade, Gatorade, cucumber water, or even liquid I.V. This is fairly common with expectant mothers, so don’t be too hard on yourself.
Just try to take it easy, and make sure you are mindful of your water intake.
I’m gonna go ahead and have the nurse get your discharge papers together. You all enjoy the rest of your day.”
The doctor shook Lyric’s hand and then mine.
I stood there in shock for a moment, trying to wrap my head around the news we had received.
A baby wasn’t something we planned for, but the moment she announced Lyric was pregnant, I felt my heart expand.
I never saw myself having kids, and now here I was, about to be a father of two.
There was one particular thing I noticed, and that was the fact that only one of us was surprised.
As soon as the doctor left the room, I looked Lyric right in the eyes.
“How long have you known?” She knew exactly what I was talking about, so I didn’t clarify any further.
“About a week. My period didn’t show up, and I was sick as a dog,” she murmured.
“Is that why you were throwing up the other day?” I asked, recalling her saying something about throwing up when I was chilling with the fellas.
“Yeah. I was nauseous for a few days, but that was the first time I physically threw up.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
Lyric gave me a guilty look. “I was going to that night, but then I chickened out. We joked about having more kids, but neither of us was planning for a baby. I wasn’t sure how you would react,” she admitted.
My head tilted as I stared at her in disbelief.
“I swear you love to try me. What were you expecting me to say? You’re acting like I don’t nut in you every chance I get.
I might be a street nigga, but I’m very well-versed on how babies are made.
When I made the decision to fuck you raw, I accepted all the consequences that came with it.
We’re already raising a child together. What’s one more? ”
There was no doubt in my mind that Lyric loved me, but sometimes, she had me questioning myself, because she acted as if she couldn’t count on me. I knew better than anyone how fucked up her past was, but I thought I had shown her enough to know she could depend on me.
“I guess I overreacted in the moment. My plan was to tell you today, but things took a turn. It has nothing to do with you or how I view you. You’re a great father, so there aren’t any doubts on that end. It just caught me off guard, and I wasn’t sure if this was the right timing.”
“We’re already a family, so any time is good timing. We’re financially set, and we have support, so you don’t have anything to worry about.”
“You’re right. Now my only problem is explaining this shit to Keynauri. He’s gonna want to know all of the details.” Lyric pouted. I wanted to choke her ass for the way she was acting.
“Listen. I’ma tell you right now, this shit with your brother is a dead issue.
If you think for one second you’re about to carry my seed and I’m gonna continue hiding in the shadows, you’ve got me fucked up.
After we make sure everything is straight at your doctor’s appointment, I’m giving you a week to tell him before I do.
I’ve been giving you grace, but I’m tired of that shit. I’m too damn grown for this.”
Lyric pouted, but she knew I wasn’t budging. “Okay, fine. I’ll still love you with a black eye and all.”
My face twisted up because shorty clearly had lost her mind.
“Ol’ girl must have given you a concussion when she snatched that bald spot in yo’ head.
Your brother is strong, but he could never beat my ass.
His big ass might get some hits off, but a black eye is wild.
I’ll shoot his ass before he ever gets the best of me,” I joked.
“Hey, that’s not funny.”
Leaning down, I pecked her lips that were already poked out. “I’m just playin’. With ya sensitive ass. My baby already stripping ya gangsta away.” My hand palmed her stomach as I thought about the little life we created.
“Umm, never that. I’m gonna be a thug until my casket drops. Fuck what you thought,” she sassed.
“Man, watch out.” I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her body into my chest. We were about to become parents for a second time, and I was happy as hell.
When Noodle was born, we had no idea what we were doing, but we figured it out together.
The idea of growing our little family excited me.
Now I just had one thing I needed to take care of.
“Beat her ass, Dashae!” Logic roared as we sat back watching the fight in front of us.
We were in one of our many warehouses, and shit was getting brutal.
“She is still holding on. That means y’all ain’t going hard enough,” I commented, seeing Davinette was still fighting back.
I had to give it to her because I expected her ass to tap out after the first few minutes, but she was hanging in there.
Meanwhile, Bianca and the rest of her crew looked like they were ready to pass out.
As soon as I got word about what happened at the spot, I had Logic call up some girls from the hood to come through and jump these hoes.
The only reason I didn’t send them to meet their maker was because no one knew Lyric was pregnant, and I wasn’t trying to involve the clean-up crew unless I absolutely had to.
Right now, it was fourteen against five, and I was pleasantly surprised at how they were holding up, but I needed them to hurry up so I could get back to my woman. Reluctantly, I let her go over Keynauri’s house, but I wasn’t comfortable with the idea of her spending the night away from home.
My plan was to come up with an excuse to stop by my homie’s house and crash over there so I could be under the same roof as my family.
“Damn, is that a tooth?” Logic shouted as Davinette stood there with a bloody mouth. I had no sympathy for the bitch because she messed with the wrong one.
“Hell yeah. Ol’ girl gon’ have to get some dentures, but that’s what her ass gets. She should have kept her mouth closed and her hands to herself.”
“How is Lyric doing?” he asked with a knowing look. Logic was aware of our relationship, although there were still some things he didn’t know.
“She’s good. I dropped her and baby girl off at Nauri’s house for the night.”
“Speaking of that nigga, what exactly did you tell him when you dropped them off?”
I glanced over at him and shook my head. Logic knew how I felt about the situation, and he agreed with me on how to handle things. The only person who wasn’t on the same page as me was Lyric.
“Man, the shit pissed me off. Lyric didn’t want him to know about her being pregnant yet, so she basically lied about the reason she ended up at the hospital.
When he asked why the bitch I used to fuck with had beef with Lyric, she told him that she was defending me because Bianca was dragging my name.
I swear I wanted to cuss her ass out as she talked.
I’m tired of this shit, and I already told her that it’s dead as soon as we find out how far along she is.
I’m too damn grown to be sneaking around and shit. ”
I had been more than patient, and I was over it.
Lyric and Noodle were my family, and I had no desire to hide that fact from anyone.
Her being pregnant again was the final straw for me.
At the end of the day, Keynauri had no choice but to accept things as they were.
His disapproval had nothing to do with me, nor would it be taken into consideration.
They were mine, and that was all there was to it.
“Yeah, sis is wildin’. Keynauri ain’t a stupid nigga. He’s gonna get suspicious, if he isn’t already. All she’s doing is delaying the inevitable. Noodle asked her to call her daddy the other day, and Lyric’s ass damn near choked. If y’all don’t say shit, baby girl gon’ blow up the spot herself.”
Lyric mentioned something about Noodle calling me daddy when we were around Keynauri.
I made it clear that if my daughter ever addressed me by my title in front of her brother, then I was going to answer my child.
I didn’t know what the hell she was expecting from me, but she had me fucked up if she thought for one second that I would let this situation cause any confusion to my child. Fuck outta here.
“Yeah, I’m done with the whole situation after this. Hell, everyone else knows, so it doesn’t even make sense to keep hiding it. Lyric has baby girl all over her page, her YouTube channel, and me as well. The shit doesn’t even make any sense.”
“Damn, I forgot all about that. Sis might as well hang it up and let him know what’s up.
I honestly don’t see him trippin’ too hard about it.
You were the person who took her in and provided for her and baby girl from the beginning.
It’s not like you intentionally went after her on some slimy shit.
Y’all got close and caught feelings. Shit happens.
Hell, I don’t see the issue at all. You’re a good dude.
I mean, outside of you selling drugs and being a ruthless killer, I would let you date one of my sisters.
” Logic shrugged as he pulled out a blunt and lit it.
“Man, get the fuck out of here. The way you just described me is probably exactly why he wouldn’t want her with me.
I’m not that bad, though. I only knock mothafuckas off when it’s needed.
Take this situation, for example. I wanted to line all those bitches up and put two in their domes, but I found a healthy alternative.
I deserve some credit for that.” I smirked, even though a part of me still wanted to put Davinette in the dirt for ripping my baby’s hair out.
