Chapter 28
Chapter Twenty-Eight
Midas
As much as I hate to leave her, I have to head back to the MC and mention our theory of the club girls being a target.
I text Havoc to let him know I’m heading in and to gather the club girls that he can.
I leave a note for Legs, along with some sandwiches in the fridge, and lock up.
I’m half tempted to carry her back to the bedroom and cuff her to the bed, but that will set back any progress I’ve made in the last twenty-four hours.
Pressing on her how much danger the baby and her boss could be in was a manipulative tactic on my end, even if it is somewhat true. The threat of danger to anyone she loves will hold her captive more than a set of handcuffs ever will.
I text Powers to tell him he can open the shop this afternoon and that Legs is upstairs and needs guarding.
I wasn’t planning on opening at all today, but what better cover to give the man to watch over Legs?
She’ll also be less likely to complain about his presence if he’s there for work.
He texts back that he’ll be here in twenty.
I open the place up and hang around until he arrives, not wanting to leave Legs alone in case this motherfucker is out there watching.
When Powers comes in, he walks straight over to me. “Okay, please tell me what I need to know and what I need to keep quiet about.”
Fuck, I like this set of prospects. It almost makes me not want them to get patched in because the next bunch is bound to be shitty.
“Legs has a stalker. I think it might be the same guy that’s been causing issues for Lil.
I don’t want her left unguarded, at least until we can figure out what the fuck is going on.
She’s not dumb. She might suspect you’re here to watch her, but she won’t complain when she knows you work here, too.
Knowing her, she’ll join you. That’s fine.
Just don’t let her leave alone. Any issues, text me. ”
“You got it. Any idea who the fuck this guy is? I hate the fact the fucker could walk in here and I’d be none the wiser.”
“That’s the problem, Powers. None of us are the wiser. I’ll fill in the others and let you know if anything shakes loose.”
“Alright, no worries.”
I slap him on the back and head out, flipping the sign to open as I leave.
I climb on my bike, grateful to be back on my girl, and slip my helmet on before heading back to the clubhouse.
Hoops opens the gate for me when I arrive.
I give him a nod as I pass him and park my bike in the warehouse.
I climb off and put my helmet on my seat before walking up to the saloon.
I spot Havoc and G at one of the tables with their women in their laps.
Capone and Circus are shooting the shit with them when they spot me walking toward them.
Nevaeh reacts by jumping off Havoc’s lap and stalking over to me. “Stalking, really?” She stomps her foot before crossing her arms over her chest.
“Beware, an angry Tinkerbell,” Circus mutters, making me chuckle.
“First of all, I wasn’t arrested for stalking. I got picked up by a cop with a hard-on for me. I’m not sure if it’s just bikers he hates or Raven Souls in general, but it’s worth keeping an eye on him. He was a dickhead to Legs too.”
G narrows his eyes before nodding to the empty seat at the table. I take a seat. “What do you mean he was a dick to Legs?” G asks.
“It’s a long story.” I look around at the women, not sure if I should continue.
“Amity, can you occupy my old lady for a little while?” Havoc asks, reading me correctly.
“Sure. Hey Pippen, let’s go for a run.”
Everyone stops and looks at Nevaeh before cracking up. The look of horror on her face is priceless.
“You know what, I have a book to finish. I’ll just head upstairs.” She disappears like she’s worried Amity will force her into doing a marathon.
“You’re an evil genius,” G mutters before kissing Amity’s neck.
She gets to her feet and winks at us. “Works like a charm every time. I’ve got a few things to do anyway. I’ll catch you guys later.” She’s about to walk away but stops, turning to look at me. “Is Legs okay?”
I smile at her. “She’s good. She was napping when I left, and I have Powers keeping an eye on her.”
“Think she’d be up for some company?”
“I don’t see why not. But let her get settled in for today. She’s had a lot of shit to deal with, but drop her a text tomorrow, yeah?”
“Yeah, I’ll do that.”
She leaves as G studies me. “Communication has dropped off a lot lately, more so with Legs being quiet on her end. Amity took it to mean she wanted a clean break from the MC and backed off.”
“Same with Tink,” Havoc admits.
“She spoke to Lil the other day,” I tell them. “I don’t think it’s intentional, but I can’t imagine it’s been easy for Legs, either. They’ll figure it out either way.”
“So, what’s going on with the club girls?” Havoc leans forward.
I fill them in on what’s been happening with Legs and our suspicions about the club girls being the targets.
“Motherfuckers,” Circus snaps, getting to his feet. “I’ll grab the girls. They’re all in the kitchen, apart from Lil, who’s at work.”
He stalks off, leaving Capone shaking his head. “He hates it when women become targets.”
“I get that.”
We all feel that way, but Circus’s father used his mother as a human shield to protect himself from a spray of bullets, so it’s arguable that he feels it more than most.
“So if this guy has moved his sights to Legs, it’s looking less like it’s a disgruntled asshole from the shelter,” Havoc states.
“And more like someone who has issues with the MC,” I finish. That’s the conclusion that Legs and I have come to as well.
We stop talking as Circus leads the bunnies in. We currently have six, not including Lil. They all stand there watching us in various states of curiosity.
“Alright, ladies, we have a question for you. It might sound odd, but I want you to think real hard before answering,” G begins.
A couple of the girls frown in confusion, but none of them say anything, waiting for G to continue.
“Have any of you noticed anything off lately? Or had anything strange, creepy, or weird happen that you wrote off as paranoia?”
“Even if it’s something small and insignificant, it might be important,” I add, thinking about Legs writing off the mug in her sink and the missing underwear because she assumed it was me.
They look at each other. Most of them shake their heads, except for Tina. “I went to visit my sister and nieces. We got a couple of cheap hotels and spent the weekend at the beach.” She swallows, rubbing her hands down her thighs.
“It’s alright, Tina, tell us the rest,” Capone urges.
“We spent most of our time in the water, but later, when we came out to get changed, I noticed my underwear was missing from my bag. My sister teased me, saying I must have just forgotten to pack it, and being a club girl, underwear is something I rarely have to worry about.” She flushes but shifts uncomfortably.
“I know I packed it because I packed my favorite bra and panty set. But I let her convince me that I must have left them in the hotel.”
“I’m guessing you didn’t find them when you went back, though?” Which means they were taken from her bag.
She shakes her head. “Worse than that. I might have only been gone for the weekend, but I’m a woman, and that means we pack enough underwear to last a week.”
The rest of the girls nod like this is standard practice.
“Only, when I was looking for my missing set, I realized all my underwear was missing.”
I look at Havoc with a clenched jaw. This motherfucker is definitely following the club girls. This is too much of a coincidence.
“I don’t know if this counts, but I swear I felt like I was being watched when I went into town the other day,” Kiki adds, looking unsure. “I didn’t say anything because I felt stupid. I didn’t see anyone following me, not once, but I just couldn’t shake the feeling that there were eyes on me.”
“Alright ladies, I think until we know what’s going on, I’m going to need you to take extra precautions.
If you can stay on-site, that would be great.
If you need to leave, either do it in pairs or tell a brother so we can find someone to cover you.
We only have so many prospects to go around, so try to keep that in mind.
In the meantime, if anything else happens, I want you to report it to us immediately, or if you remember something else.
It will help give us a clearer picture. Any questions? ”
“Should I be worried about my sister and nieces? If someone is watching me, they’ll know about them,” Tina asks, biting her lip.
“We don’t have any reason to believe they’re in any danger. Don’t take this wrong, but your sister means nothing to the club, especially in the grand scheme of things,” Havoc states.
Capone sighs. “What he means is, a strike against your sister wouldn’t equal a strike against the MC, not that we wouldn’t be pissed. But club girls are different. The tattoo on your wrist means you’re under our protection, and if we fail to protect you, that tells people we fell down on our job.”
“Okay, I get it. I was just worried.” Tina shrinks in on herself.
“Tina, it’s okay. Of course, you’re worried about your sister. But to the best of our knowledge, your sister is safe. You said it yourself: it was only your stuff, right?”
She nods. “From the beach and my hotel room. It’s like they knew which was my stuff and which was Claire’s.”
I look sharply at G, who nods.
“Alright, girls, you may go. Don’t forget, though, if anything feels off, report it to one of us. I don’t care how big or small it seems.”
They all nod and agree before leaving. I lean over to G. “How the fuck would this asshole know which shit was Tina’s and which was her sister’s?”
