Chapter Sixty-One
Alan
Jessica collapsing in a heap after she came was good for my ego. As she lay not moving on the couch, I murmured against her ear, “What do you want from Golden Dragon?”
She groaned and turned her head, mumbling, “I was supposed to get that, wasn’t I?”
“Don’t worry about it; I can go get it. And I’ll pick Ruthie up on my way home. You just need to tell me what you want, and where our little girl is.”
“Orange chicken, and she’s at Lainey and Adam’s.”
I draped a blanket over her and kissed her hair. “I’ll be back before you know it.”

When I walked into my brother’s kitchen thirty minutes later, I noticed Ruthie sleeping in her car seat on the table in the breakfast nook.
Lainey and Adam sat eating dinner directly in front of her like a human wall, Lainey rocking the seat gently.
When my future sister-in-law noticed me, she looked up from the table with a scowl.
“Where’s your fiancée?”
“When I left, she was asleep on the couch. I just picked up Golden Dragon and came to get our daughter.”
Her scowl morphed into a smile. “I love that you already call her our daughter.”
“She is our daughter.”
“Did you like Jess’s surprise?”
There was no way I was discussing our sexcapades with Lainey, so I replied, “She looked beautiful.”
She’d looked even more beautiful on her knees, looking up at me from between my thighs with my cock in her mouth, but that was for my information only.
Lainey smirked, like she could read my mind. “She did, didn’t she?”
I pretended not to notice.
“Was that one of the dresses she got when you went shopping yesterday?”
“No—she borrowed it from Kristy. I already put all the clothes we bought in your closet and drawers.”
“You did?”
“Yeah, while she went to pick you up from the airport.”
“Thanks again for taking her. I noticed you did as I asked and spent my money.” So much so, that my credit card company had called to make sure it wasn’t fraud. I looked over at my brother. “And thanks for going to the house so the mattress could be delivered.”
“Anytime. I’m glad you’re going to be in town more. It’s a cute place,” Adam remarked. “A little smaller than you’re used to.”
“It’s only temporary. If we decide to buy something in Haven Springs, we’ll get something bigger.”
“You wouldn’t build?”
“My contractor’s license is only good in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. I’m working on Vermont and Rhode Island.”
“Why not get one in North Carolina, too?” Lainey asked.
“Because I don’t think it’d be worth the cost. My crews are based in New England.”
“I guess that makes sense.”
I reached for the handle of Ruthie’s car seat. “I hate to grab my kid and run, but I have Golden Dragon in the car, so…”
Lainey made a shooing motion. “Go. Enjoy your Chinese food.” Her grin was smug when she continued, “And tell Jess to text me when she gets a chance.”

Jessica
The smell of food stirred me from my spot on the couch, and I slowly sat up—fully aware of what I probably looked like—ratty hair, smeared mascara and lipstick, and more than likely a crease along my cheek from where I’d slept on the pillow.
“I didn’t even hear you come in,” I remarked when Alan walked into the room with two plates in his hand.
“I’m glad. I tried to be quiet,” he said as he handed me a plate, then sat down on the couch next to me.
“Thank you.” I glanced around. “Were you able to pick up Ruthie?”
“Yeah, she’s sleeping in the kitchen. We should be able to hear her if she starts to fuss.”
Good. I trusted Adam and Lainey, but I didn’t like being apart from my daughter for too long.
Using my fork, I stirred the Orange Chicken into the white rice he’d also put on my plate. “This looks great.” I glanced at his plate and asked, “What’d you get?”
“I couldn’t decide, so I got beef lo mein and General Tso’s chicken.”
“I’ve never had either one of those.”
He held out his fork with a bite of noodles on it. “You want to try it?”
I shook my head. “No, thank you.”
“I’m sure I’ll have leftovers if you want some later.”
“Thanks.”
I’d just taken a bite of my chicken when he asked, “So, what kind of porn did you watch?” and I immediately started coughing.
I grabbed my glass of water and took a drink before I replied, “Um, Kristy sent me a few links. She said if I was going to look up videos on my own to be sure and search for ‘porn for women’.”
“That’s good advice.” He paused. “So, did you? Look up videos on your own?”
I stared at my plate and mumbled, “Maybe a few.”
“What did you search?”
He genuinely seemed to want to know, so I mustered some courage and said, “Different positions. Ruthie’s dad would only do missionary.”
His tone was clipped when he said, “I’m Ruthie’s dad.”
I didn’t mean to offend him and offered an immediate mea culpa. “I know; I’m sorry. That’s just what I’ve been referring to him as for the last seven months. Well, that or sperm donor.”
“How about we just call him your ex from now on?”
“Okay.”
“And were there any positions you wanted to try?”
My heart skipped a beat. “Right now?”
He shook his head with a laugh. “No, on our wedding night. Or our honeymoon.”
“Um… yeah.”
He nodded his head. “Good.”
