Chapter 25

CHAPTER 25

brEE

With the excuse that her fridge is overflowing with food, Bree avoids dinner with Darlene and Kyle and leaves their place as the sun begins to set, but not before giving Oscar a generous amount of head pats.

She tells herself she’s only going to visit the abandoned cabin for ten minutes at most.

She just wants to look inside. She won’t trespass.

On the outside, the cabin isn’t as nice as hers, but it’s well-kept and finely built.

Ellie Winters stayed here while she was working with Erik Hart.

It’s secluded away from any other cabins, closer to the prison than to the rest of the town. Peering through the front window, she sees a simple couch and tiny kitchen.

There’s also an open door near the kitchen, sideways and barely clinging to its hinges, as if it was broken down.

A thrill runs through her .

The sun is setting with gorgeous pinks and yellows illuminating the sky.

She only has a few minutes before night falls.

Her phone buzzes again, but she ignores it, debating what to do.

She should turn around and go back to her own cabin.

It would be foolish to try to go inside Ellie’s temporary residence.

But she’s done enough foolish things on this trip—including opening her heart to a possessive, overzealous Alpha.

What’s one more thing to add to the list?

She tries the door handle, and it opens with a slight creak .

With a few more steps, she’s inside the abandoned cabin.

She tries to flip on the light switch near the door, but nothing happens. She’s not surprised.

The air is stale as she approaches the stairs of the basement, peering down into nothingness.

She imagines a terrified Ellie hiding from Erik, desperate to escape him once he broke out of his cell.

She takes a step down, then another step, until she’s swallowed by darkness and there’s only a thin sliver of light from above her.

Just one more minute.

She closes her eyes, imagining hiding from Cole in here.

Hiding from the world.

She could stay here and just disappear…

“Breana.”

She shrieks as he comes up behind her, his scent invading her senses.

“I thought I told you to not wander out by yourself,” he warns, his voice a low growl. “Yet here you are, breaking and entering once again. ”

She can’t see him in the darkness. The sliver of light from before has vanished, and she’s shrouded in darkness.

“How did you know I was here?” she asks, her voice breathy. Part of her is terrified, but the other part is thrilled .

She missed him.

“You never responded to my messages,” he says, his voice in her ear. “I grew…concerned.”

“I knew you were working,” she huffs, blind in the dark. “I didn’t want to bother you.”

“Hmm.” His hand brushes her hair from her shoulders, and she shivers. “Or maybe, you were acting out because you knew I would find you.”

He presses a kiss to her neck, and she closes her eyes and moans.

“Is it that hard to have even an ounce of self-preservation?” he asks her, “or do you make it a habit of wandering places you shouldn’t be?”

He’s furious. She can tell by the way his scent spikes, peppery and thick, but his touch isn’t fueled by anger. It’s soft and teasing, and she loves every moment of it.

It makes her bold.

“If I didn’t break the rules, I would never have met you, would I?” she murmurs, and he stills behind her.

She’s pushed against a wall before she can blink, his breath heavy at her neck.

“I would have found you regardless,” he growls, grabbing her hips and hoisting her up so her legs are wrapped around his waist. “In this lifetime, the next, and forever after that, I will find you. Again, and again .”

Her head spins.

“Cole—”

“No, fuck that . You know what to call me. Say it.” He grinds his hips against her, and she moans at the friction. Her body is on fire, and all she can think about is how desperate she is to come.

“Please—”

“ Say. It.”

“Alpha,” she whispers, and he groans.

“ That’s it .” He rocks against her as he kisses her, sucking on her tongue until she’s whimpering and moaning in his mouth, desperate for more.

She scents the slightest bit of rust underneath his rich scent, but she tells herself it doesn’t matter.

He still hasn’t told her how he found her, but she doesn’t care.

All that she needs is to keep touching, tasting, and scenting her Alpha.

To hell with rational thought.

When his lips descend to her mating gland, she almost begs him to bite her right there, in the basement of the abandoned cabin.

“Why did you come here?” he snarls into her skin, nipping at the abused flesh. “What were you hoping to find?”

She’s embarrassingly close to coming, desperate for another orgasm after missing his touch for days.

“I…”

He licks a stripe up her neck. “Do you think they fucked down here?” he whispers. “Is that what you thought, baby?”

“Alpha,” she whispers, clutching at his shoulders.

“Louder. No one can hear you scream down here, so you better give it to me. ”

With one more flick of his tongue against her mating gland, she comes. She screams into the darkness of the basement, her cries echoing off the walls until the darkness swallows them.

But it’s not enough. Her body is on fire as she voices the scenario that’s been playing in her mind since the other day.

“Let me suck your cock, Alpha .”
