Chapter 16
POV: Cain?
It’s been two days since I’ve seen Kiera and it was driving me fucking insane.
Especially since, like the stubborn girl, she was, she always managed to leave me on read.
I wanted her to be glued to my side—to feel the need to respond to everything I sent—to obey every single one of my commands.
That was what I was used to after all—-blind obedience.
If Kiera had a wolf, she’d feel it—the need to obey her Alpha, the need to obey her mate. But since she was human, she still had reservations about us and that’s probably why she tried to separate herself from me a bit—in order to try to keep her individuality and her independence.
But I wasn’t having it and neither was my wolf.
Alpha’s needed blind obedience, especially from their Goddess given mates. And she was driving me fucking insane by resisting me.
The ride back with Xavier was mostly silent, he knew this was a complicated situation and eventually, I’d be forced to show my hand to the packhouse, but right now, both of us knew that this secret was best kept.
When I strolled into the office, Kiera had the phone monitor pressed to her ear as she scribbled words down onto a yellow notepad. Her eyes immediately darted up to meet mine and she gave me an awkward smile.
I stopped right in front of her desk, hovering over her and waiting for her to finish. As soon as she set the phone monitor down, she looked up at me, her smile tightening, as if this was awkward for her. And I guess it was, she had just slept with her boss, after getting out of a horrible relationship with her previous boss, and was probably thinking I’d do the same thing that he did to her—cheat—fire her—make it impossible for her to get a job.
“Ms. Lorens,” a slight twitch of a smile formed on my lips as I looked her over.
Goddess, I wanted to ravish her here, in the open, for the entire office to see—that she belonged to me.
But this wasn’t normal for humans. In the pack world everyone would clap and cheer then leave me to my business, but humans would think I was practically an insane control-freak if I began pinning her up against my desk and claiming her.
I leaned in and hovered over her desk, “Did you miss me?”
Kiera stiffened slightly and looked around to make sure no one else heard. But her pale cheeks were flushed pink from my question.
She nodded, her eyes darting around, surveying the office.
“Good,” I smirked, straightening out my posture and walking towards my office. “I have a few things we should discuss…in my office.”
Kiera’s heart rate increased and I knew she was imagining the things I would do to her in my office—alone.
As soon as she closed the door behind her, I was on her, pushing her against the wall and kissing down her neck.
“Mr. Naughton,” she whispered in a moan.
“Cain,” I corrected as I tried to reign back my wolf.
I continued kissing down her neck until I reached her bony shoulders and grazed my canines against them, causing her breath to hitch.
“Not here, Cain,” she murmured but it didn’t sound convincing.
“Not convincing,” I replied as I continued to lightly nibble my way back to her neck then run my tongue along the side of her neck—the perfect spot to mark her as mine once and for all.
“Please,” she pleaded.
And that made me stop.
Because no matter how much I wanted to take her and fuck her again, I knew that she didn’t want me to, not here, not now and I respected that.
I quickly removed my mouth from her neck and looked her over.
Wide blue eyes, swollen lips, her scent of arousal.
She had no idea what I was doing. She had no idea who I was.
I ran my thumb gently over her high cheekbone and watched her fall into my touch, closing her eyes to enjoy it.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean it like that—” she said, opening her eyes, and looking at me apologetically.
“I know, baby. I understand. It’s a lot.”
“I’m just still..confused.”
I sighed, keeping my body pressed against hers. “You will be, for a while.” Eventually, I took a step back and stopped pining her against the door. “Come sit.”
She followed slowly and carefully sat down in the chair across from my desk.
I slumped down into my desk chair, thinking of the most rational thing to say to her in a time like this. I had to go slow and pining her against a wall, marking her, and fucking her in my office was definitely not slow.
“Come over for dinner tonight,” I offered. “I’m not a bad cook.”
She bit her lip, thinking about it.
“Please,” I interjected, stopping her from thinking some more, thinking about saying no. I couldn’t take another day away from her. “I’ve missed you.”
Her gaze held mine and we stared at each other for what felt like forever. I could tell her mind was working, trying to consider her best option. “I—”
“Please, baby,” I continued, on the brink of begging. I never begged. I never had to, but I knew with Kiera, I had to, at least for now, until she understood. “What’s your favorite cuisine?”
Kiera began to relax at that question, letting her shoulders fall and her eyes soften. “Pasta is fine.”
I smiled, a beaming smile, as I leaned in and took her hand in mine. “Pasta it is.”
“What time?” she squeaked out.
“5:00 pm. Leave work at 2:00 pm. You’ll get a delivery to your apartment by 2:30.”
“A delivery?” she asked, her eyes flashing with fear again. “To my apartment?”
Shit, maybe I shouldn’t have alerted her of that—-humans took actions like that, especially sudden ones, like stalking.
“Your address is on file with the company, Kiera.”
That calmed her down a bit. “Oh. Well…” She got to her feet, confused and began walking towards the door. “Bye, Cain,” she offered me a strained smile before closing the door behind me.
