Chapter Twenty-Two

Twenty-Two

There was a child.

A baby boy.

With his father’s hair and her eyes.

A little boy who gave them nine months and twenty-one hours of joy, their lives orbiting around his existence.

And then he was gone.

A problem with his heart, the doctors said in the hospital after she’d given birth, which was the strangest thing for her to wrap her mind around considering she would have given him hers if she could.

And as she grieved in the hospital alone, recovering from the cesarean section, her husband was called away on a mission because the mission always came first.
