Chapter 2
Two
Johnny Brown
“You can have your own room if you want,” I said knowing that was exactly what he didn’t want.
He backed me up against the kitchen island and pressed himself against me. “There is no way we’re sleeping in separate rooms. Especially since we’ll get to sleep in the same bed for more than a night,” Devon said.
“Good because I want as much time with you as I can get,” I whispered before kissing him.
The past few months had been busy, and even though we were together almost all-day-every-day, we rarely had a chance to be alone.
I missed the time when we first met and sneaked off to each other’s rooms to spend the night together, hoping no one knew.
“Do we need to go anywhere tonight?” Devon asked.
“No, we’re free. I thought since we played last night and drove here today that a night off would be good for everyone.” His lips lifted in a grin.
“Looks like we have some time to kill,” he said as he kissed up the side of my neck before softly breathing where he’d just left a trail of kisses.
I pulled back enough to meet his eyes before he grabbed my hand and led me down the hall.
The first door flung open as we passed and Mateo jumped back before clutching his chest.
“Fuck you scared me,” he yelled as we all laughed. “I’m just going to see what’s here to eat.” He brushed past the two of us before turning back again. “Jeremy took the room next door. We figured you two would want the biggest one on the end.”
“Thanks, Mateo,” I said, and Devon grinned that lopsided grin that made it hard for me to resist him.
I tugged his hand and pulled him down the hall before throwing open the door. “Whoa,” he said and sauntered around the room. It was huge. Easily twice as big as Mateo’s room and judging by the doorway off to the side of the bed, it had its own bathroom.
“We must be doing better than I thought,” I mumbled.
“What’s that?” Devon asked. “Did you say you can’t wait to try out the shower?” He slinked over to me and after kicking the door shut slid my shirt over my head before gliding his hands down my back.
“A shower does sound good.” I wasn’t lying. We’d been driving all day, having left fucking Fresno this morning, and I was as ready as Devon was for a night off.
“Stay right there,” he said, and hurried back out of the room. I opened the door to the spacious bathroom, which included a shower more than big enough for the two of us, and a jacuzzi tub. Noise at the door got my attention as Devon stumbled in carrying our luggage.
“Let me help.” I took two bags, and we put them to the side of the bed. Both of us took out our shower kits like we did every night in every hotel. Devon kissed my cheek before setting his bag down on the counter and turning to move to the shower. “We’ll have to use the tub while we’re here.”
“Let’s do it. We’ve got all night,” I said and walked over to turn on the tap.
He walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around me as I stood.
His eyes met mine and the warmth I would always associate with him flowed through my veins.
Leaning in slowly he kissed me and when his tongue brushed against mine and he ground his dick against my growing hard-on, I was ready to forget the bath and go try out the bed.
“Let’s get in,” he groaned, his voice thick with desire.
He helped me get undressed while avoiding my hands that wanted to touch him wherever I could reach.
Both of us were hard when we slid into the warm water.
I relaxed against the back of the tub and my eyes slid shut.
The long drive and all the long days hitting me.
Devon picked up one of my feet and started massaging it before pausing.
I cracked an eye open to find him fiddling with the controls on the edge of the tub. “Trying to turn the jets on.”
“You’re the best,” I said as he started massaging again and my eyes drifted closed.
“I knew you were more tired than you’ve been letting on. Some time off will do us all some good,” Devon murmured.
“I know you’re right, but I can’t help but worry. We’ve been through so much to get to where we are,” I said.
“I know, and I realize I’ve said this a million times, but after spending time with Blinding Light I learned a lot about burnout, and I don’t want that to happen to either of us.”
He had talked about this many times, and I knew it was a huge concern for him, but I also knew how much it meant to him that they’d trusted him enough to fill in for his uncle last year.
Blinding Light had been through their share of shit too but now they were making it work. “How much time do they take off?”
“They didn’t used to take any, but now they take three months after Rocktoberfest. That was part of the reason Uncle Glen went back.
He made them all sign a contract that they’d take time off and not run themselves into the ground.
Glen is married with kids, and he didn’t realize how much he was missing until he was home more.
I think they told Vance they’d have time off or they’d be gone.
Not that he has much say in what they do anymore. ”
“Their manager?”
“Yeah, but he doesn’t have power over them, he makes sure everything runs smooth, and they’re treated right at venues.”
“Tanner has been great, and he made the initial investment in the band. He paid for our hotels with his own money until we were able to pay it ourselves.”
“I didn’t know that,” Devon said.
“Yeah, there’s a lot that happened before you joined us,” I said, and hoped he didn’t want more detail because there were things I didn’t want him to know, and a few things I wasn’t proud of that I’d done myself.
But right now, I just wanted to enjoy the time we had here.
“Come here.” I reached for him and guided him around, so he was relaxing against my chest. “I love you.”
He squeezed my hand that rested across his chest. “I love you too.”
Devon was right, we needed this time. Now if I could just stop my stupid brain from thinking about every single fucking thing we needed to do before we played on Saturday.
