Chapter 27 Cord
Cord
Giovanni wrenched Cord’s iPhone from his hot little hand. “Lee and Mom have both called me,” argued Cord. “Shouldn’t I return their calls, and inform someone I’m going into the wilderness?”
“You can call your entire family after we return to love,” said Gio, handing Cord’s phone to the bald fellow at the front desk, who snapped it into a cellphone lockbox and then into a safe.
“Your detox begins! As soon as your Kottage is ready, I’ll come find you,” said the smug jerk. “Feel free to use the canoes; it’s a beautiful day.”
Cord followed Gio to a lakefront dock, his head aching from the whiskey nips he’d enjoyed in the Greyhound bathroom on the way to the Poconos. He and Giovanni climbed awkwardly into a wooden canoe and Gio untied them from the dock. “Phone-free in nature!” he crowed.
“I feel very ill at ease,” Cord confided.
“I told Dalton I had the norovirus! This truly is a return to love.”
“We met on Tinder, not in nature,” noted Cord.
“Oh, pish!” said Giovanni.
“You sound like my mother,” said Cord.
“Charlotte would love the Poconos,” said Giovanni.
