Chapter 38
Chapter Thirty-Eight
Jack
I wake up the next morning, Sunday, with Brynn’s warm body molded to mine. Her perfect ass is pressed against my morning wood. I reach forward, my fingers gripping her hip as I pull her tighter into me. She moans softly, her butt wiggling back and against my length.
My lips find the soft skin of her neck, planting gentle kisses as I breathe in her familiar scent. Brynn sighs contentedly, her body slowly awakening to my touch. I trail my fingers along the curve of her waist, savoring the silky smoothness of her skin.
“Good morning,” she whispers, her voice still husky with sleep. She turns in my arms to face me, her green eyes sparkling as they meet mine. A playful smile tugs at her lips.
“Morning, beautiful,” I murmur, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
Unable to resist, I lean in to capture her lips in a deep, languid kiss. She responds eagerly, her fingers tangling in my hair as she presses her body flush against mine.
Her leg hooks over mine, pulling our bodies flush. The friction sends a jolt of pleasure through me.
“Someone’s excited,” she teases, grinding her hips deliberately against mine.
I groan softly, my hands roaming down her back to cup her rear. “Can you blame me? Waking up next to you is intoxicating.”
Her lips curve into a seductive smile as she pushes me onto my back, straddling my hips in one fluid motion. The sheet falls away, revealing her naked form bathed in the soft morning light filtering through the curtains.
“Well then,” she purrs, leaning down to brush her lips against my ear. “Let’s see just how intoxicated we can get.”
Her teeth graze my earlobe as her hips begin a slow, teasing grind. I grip her thighs, reveling in the feeling of her smooth skin under my palms. My lips find her collarbone, trailing kisses along its elegant curve as she arches into me.
Her fingers trace patterns on my chest as she rocks against me, her movements becoming more urgent. I slide my hands up her sides, cupping her breasts and teasing her nipples to stiff peaks. She gasps, her head falling back as she grinds down harder.
“I need you,” she breathes, reaching between us to guide me to her entrance.
I groan as she sinks down, enveloping me in her wet heat. For a moment,
we’re both still savoring the connection. Then she begins to move, setting a languorous pace that has us both panting.
I thrust up to meet her, my hands gripping her hips as we find our rhythm. Brynn’s nails dig into my chest, her lips parted in pleasure. I drink in the sight of her—flushed cheeks, tousled hair, eyes dark with desire.
She’s breathtaking, her lithe body undulating above me in the soft morning light. I sit up, wrapping my arms around her waist to pull her closer. Our lips meet in a passionate kiss as she continues to ride me, her movements growing more frantic.
“God, you feel amazing,” I groan against her neck, nipping at the sensitive skin there.
Brynn whimpers in response, her fingers digging into my shoulders. I can feel her starting to tighten around me, her thighs trembling with the effort of her movements. Wanting to push her over the edge, I slip a hand between us to circle her most sensitive spot.
“Oh, God, yes,” she cries out, throwing her head back. “Don’t stop, please don’t stop!”
I increase the pressure and speed of my fingers as I thrust up into her harder.
Brynn’s body goes rigid, her inner walls clenching around me as she cries out in ecstasy.
The sight and feel of her climax trigger my own release.
I grip her hips tightly, burying myself deep inside her as waves of pleasure wash over me.
We cling to each other as we come down from our high, bodies slick with sweat and chests heaving. She peppers my face with soft kisses before capturing my lips in a tender kiss.
“Now that’s how you start a morning,” she says with a satisfied smile, running her fingers through my hair.
I chuckle, giving her hips an affectionate squeeze. “Agreed. Though I’m not sure I’ll be able to get any work done today with you on my mind.”
She giggles before pulling away. “I should get out to the stable before Nick comes knocking on the door.”
“As soon as I’m healed, you’ll be back to not doing those anymore.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” she says dismissively.
She rolls out of bed, and I lie there for a minute, watching her as she moves around the room, collecting her clothing and getting dressed.
She’s breathtaking.
I can’t help but admire her graceful movements as she slips on her jeans and pulls a worn flannel shirt over her head. Her hair falls in tousled waves around her shoulders, still mussed from our lovemaking. She catches me staring and gives me a playful wink.
“Like what you see, cowboy?” she teases.
“Always,” I reply with a grin. “You sure I can’t convince you to come back to bed?”
Brynn laughs, shaking her head. “As tempting as that is, the horses need feeding. And you need to rest.”
I groan dramatically, flopping back against the pillows. “Doctor’s orders are overrated.”
She comes over to the bed, leaning down to press a soft kiss to my lips. “Behave yourself, and maybe I’ll sneak away for lunch later.”
“With that on the table, I’ll do whatever you say,” I tell her with a laugh.
“Are you okay? I feel like an ass that I didn’t check in to ask that at all,” she says softly. “Your lungs are fucked up, and you just had surgery and—”
“If there was a problem, I would’ve said it. Stop overthinking.”
She chews on her lip before she nods. “I need to go.”
She leaves the room and is out of the house as I slowly roll out of her bed and get dressed. I look down at my watch.
No one but Nick and Brynn are up now. I can get dressed, go to the house, and start coffee without anyone getting suspicious.
And I do just that. By the time the coffee is ready, I’ve already changed into fresh clothes, and I meet John in the kitchen.
“You were out late last night,” he says with a knowing smile. “Did you find yourself a new lady in town?”
“Nah, I didn’t want to wake you or Liv, so I just slept in my truck.”
“You’re a terrible liar,” he says with a smile as he walks over and pours himself a cup of coffee.
I chuckle nervously, trying to play it cool. “What makes you think I’m lying?”
John gives me a pointed look over the rim of his coffee mug. “Son, I’ve known you since you were knee-high to a grasshopper. I can tell when you’re not being straight with me.”
I sigh, running a hand through my hair. “Look, John, it’s complicated. I don’t want to cause any trouble or upset anyone.”
He sets his mug down and leans against the counter, crossing his arms. “This have anything to do with Brynn?”
My heart skips a beat at her name. “What makes you say that?”
“I’m not blind, you know,” he says with a knowing smile. “I’ve seen the way you two look at each other when you think no one’s watching. And I saw you sneaking out of her house earlier.”
My eyes go wide, and I inhale slowly. I’m half expecting him to tell me to stay away from her, but instead, he claps me on the back.
My heart races as I try to think of an explanation. “I… uh…”
“Relax, son,” John says, clapping me on the shoulder. “I’m not here to give you the third degree. You’re both adults.”
I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. “We didn’t want anyone to know yet. It’s still new and we’re trying to figure things out.”
John nods understandingly. “Your secret’s safe with me. But you might want to work on your stealth skills if you want to keep it under wraps. You’re not as sneaky as you think.”
I chuckle, feeling a weight lift off my shoulders. “Thanks, John. I appreciate your discretion.”
“Just be careful,” he says, his tone turning serious. “Brynn’s been through a lot. I don’t want to see her get hurt again.”
“I would never hurt her,” I say firmly. “She means everything to me.”
John studies me for a moment before nodding. “I believe you. Just remember, this is a small town. People talk. And not everyone will be as understanding as I am.”
I nod, taking his words to heart. “We’ll be more careful. I promise.”
Just then, we hear footsteps approaching. Olivia enters the kitchen, her eyes still heavy with sleep.
“Morning, Popo, Mr. Jack,” she yawns, making a beeline for the refrigerator. “What are you two whispering about?”
John and I exchange a quick glance before he smoothly replies, “Just discussing some repairs needed on the north fence. Nothing too exciting.”
She nods absently as she pours herself a cup of orange juice. “Work that neither of you should be doing.”
I laugh to myself. For twelve years old, she’s wise beyond her years. John smiles and chuckles, too.
“She reminds me of her grandma,” he says softly. “So does her mom. She’d be so proud of them both. Her grandma was smart as a whip and could figure things out before anyone else.”
As she shuffles out of the kitchen, John gives me a pointed look. I nod, understanding his warning. We’ll need to be more discreet going forward.
