Epilogue

Lucas

Six months later, we were all at the pub celebrating. Lilly’s was a part of the FI family. We had our furniture company. I glanced over at Valerie. She was amazingly beautiful. I loved her more and more every day.

She’d spent two weeks tying up things at her old job, then came to work at FI as a Senior Forensic Accountant. We still shared an office, and I loved every second of it. This weekend, she was moving in with me. Now, if I could just convince her to marry me.

It wasn’t as if she was opposed to marriage, but she wanted to wait until after her father’s trial so she could put that part of her life behind her. I didn’t blame her, but I was anxious to make her my wife.

“What happened at Daily Perks that caused you and Legal to be there today?” Josh asked.

I glanced at Miles wondering what happened.

“I can’t say much. We’re investigating.”

“Is Amelia okay?” Cassie asked, worry in her voice.

“She’s fine,” Miles said. “That’s all I can say.”

Everyone went back to food and talking. I leaned closer to Miles. “Do you need me or Valerie to take a look at the books?”

“No. It isn’t financial. It’s a personnel issue.”

“Okay.” It wasn’t like Miles to be so closed mouth around us. Something was up.

“Lucas...” Valerie’s soft voice caught my attention.

“Yes, my love.”

“What do you think of December?”

“December?” What was she talking about?

“Yes. A December wedding.”

My jaw dropped, and I gathered my composure. “Whatever you want.”

“Did I hear wedding?” Emma asked.

“December. Clear your calendars.” I raised Valerie’s hand to my lips. “This is just the beginning.”
