Chapter Five

Dax

“Holy shit.” I whisper to myself as I look over and see her. Alia and Chase, both give me quizzical looks. How did she know where to find me? Was she here to see me? Was this just an accidental happenstance or had she come looking for me?

It’s her! Go claim her and be done with it, she’s ours.

Make her ours. That’s easier said than done asshole.

She’s human, remember she doesn’t work as fast as we do.

Not to mention after last night I’m pretty sure she wants nothing to do with us.

We will need to woo her. My tiger scoffed at my suggestion, but I knew human women needed more time.

“How do you know Myra?” Alia asks. Did she say Myra? My mate was Alia’s assistant. I couldn’t decide if this was a bad thing or a good thing at the moment.

Myra. Myra. Myyyyra. My tiger purred inside my head. I could imagine whisper her name against her ear as I fucked her into senselessness.

“Answer Alia dumbass.” My brother demanded, smacking me upside the head and a growl rattled up my throat in response.

“It’s none of your business who I know or how I know them.” I toss back at him, and he gives me a warning look. Meanwhile Alia was speed walking over to Myra’s truck to greet her.

“How do you know her? Myra is Alia’s best friend if you fucked her tell me now.” Chase says through gritted teeth, but as soon as Alia looks over at us, he smiles in her direction.

“I didn’t fuck her asshole. She deserves better than a cheap fuck. She’s a queen and deserves to be treated like one.” Chase’s eyes narrow at me, then looks over at Myra, and back at me again.

“Oh, my fucking god!” Chase shouts with a shit eating grin, causing Alia to jerk her attention back at us with a frown marring her face.

“Why the hell are you grinning like a manic?” Chase doesn’t respond at first, instead he starts jogging towards Alia and Myra.

My tiger growls low, he doesn’t like Chase being so close to our mate.

Right before Chase reaches them, he turns and flips me off with a knowing smirk.

Motherfucker thinks he’s so fucking smart.

Well to be fair I’m pretty sure he’s figured out that Myra is my mate, but he doesn’t have to be so damn smarmy about it. It’s not like I gave him shit about Alia when they found each other.

Lie, you are lying right now and you know it.

Get the fuck over there, I don’t like him that close to our mate.

She’s ours, not his. He has his own mate.

Exactly, Alia is his mate, he doesn’t want anything to do with our mate.

Stop being such a dick. I still walk over to greet her, but not because my tiger is telling me to, it’s simply the polite thing to do.

Liar. He hisses and I take a deep breath to keep from rolling my eyes into the back of my head as I walk towards everyone.

“Well fancy meeting you here, Myra.” Her eyes go round in shock before she composes her face again. Alia looks back and forth between us.

“How do you know Dax?” Alia questions Myra. I figure Myra will get flustered or maybe lie, but instead she shocks me to the core with her answer.

“Oh well he was running through the parking lot of Lugnutz like a crazy person and I almost nailed him with my truck door. Like a decent person I apologized. Then he followed me inside like some creeper and tried to hit on me by asking my name. I refused to tell him my name, I told him to piss off, he did, then he paid for my meal and drinks. Anywhoodle, I didn’t even realize he was Dax at the time; he introduced himself as Daxton.

I didn’t put two and two together until I pulled in and saw him.

And that ladies and gents is how I met Dax.

” Myra curtsied like she’d just finished a performance before turning on her heel and heading back toward her truck with purpose.

I looked over at Chase who was fighting back a shit eating grin and then over to Alia who looked over at me questioningly.

Before Alia can start asking questions Myra opens her truck door and the smell of sugary sweetness hits my senses.

I’m pretty sure my body floated over to her truck, enticed by the smell coming from it.

“Whatcha got in there Myyyra?” I make sure to elongate her name as I approach.

She startles hard, cursing under her breath and I grin at her filthy mouth.

Oh, the things I want to hear come out of her mouth as I ram into her from behind.

I try to adjust my dick as discreetly as possible, but Myra’s eyes dart to my action.

“Don’t look at him, it will only encourage him.” I chastise and her eyes go round with shock then transform into anger.

“I wasn’t looking at him!” She yells flustered at being caught as she grabs a drink holder from where it was buckled into the front seat. Cute, she thought a seat belt would really keep drinks from flying if she slammed on her brakes.

“Okay we will ignore the fact that you were ogling my manly bits and focus on the job at hand. Let me help you carry those. Are these for us, or do you just need that much anti-murdery juice first thing in the morning?” I tease as I take the drink holder from her gently much to her chagrin.

“You are positively insufferable! Has anyone ever told you that?” She’s so damn beautiful when she’s angry that I can’t help but smile down at her. Before I can respond to her question though my oh so helpful brother does.

“I tell him at least every day that ends in ‘Y’ and twice on Sunday’s. Sorry Myra, I tried to raise him right, but you know, single father and all that. Maybe I should have beat him more.” Looking up at the sky I ask for patience before I murder my brother.

“Both of you are insufferable most days, don’t act like it’s just Dax.” Alia comes to my defense and I give my brother a fuck you smile.

“Hey, you’re my mate; you’re supposed to back me up.” Chase quips back and then he realized what he just said when Alia gives him a pointed look, and he mouths I’m Sorry.

“She’s more than just your mate Chase; she’ll be your wife soon.

But that doesn’t mean she has to agree with everything you say or do.

Remember she’s a lawyer and likes to argue by nature.

” Myra jokes as she pulls out a stack of boxes with my favorite bakery’s logo on it, as we all take a collective sigh of relief.

“Oh my god did you seriously stop at Grandough’s?

Marry me now. Here I have a piece of twine we can use for a ring.

Say yes, and everything I have is yours.

” I hand off the drink holder to Chase who is grinning like a damn fool as I drop to one knee and pull out said twine twisting it into a ringlike shape.

Alia is laughing her ass off, while Myra is looking at me like I’ve lost my damn mind.

“What are you doing? Oh my god, they're just pastries, get up.” Myra says as she starts to giggle at my antics. What she doesn’t know is I’m dead fucking serious.

If she accepts this piece of twine, it will solidify my tigers claim on her not to mention my own.

My tiger is chanting ‘take it’ over and over inside my head.

“Woman, they are not just pastries, they are pastries from Grandough’s. They are like the pastry gods. I worship at their temple of deliciousness every week, sometimes twice a week.” I preach from my bent knee position as Myra seems to be holding back her laughter.

“Try almost every damn day.” Chase teases me and his words unleash laughter from both Myra and Alia.

“Stop pastry blocking me.” I growl out and Myra grabs her stomach laughing.

“Oh, my goodness, I had no idea I was carrying around holy pastries. Now I feel like we should do more than just eat them. Like maybe say a little prayer or do a little blessing.” She punches out in between her laughter.

“Maybe we should perform a dance or light some candles before we eat them?” Alia asks through her own laughter.

“No, I got it, I got it. I’ll write a sermon, grab a milk crate, and preach about the glory that is Grandough’s.” Chase joked, slapping his knee through laughter of his own.

“Har har har. You mock me now, but just you wait, you'll change your tune soon.” I promise as I remain on bended knee with my hand out still holding the twine.

“Oh my god get up dumbass. Myra doesn’t want your stupid piece of twine. Pretty sure bringing you pastries isn’t grounds for a proposal.” Chase chastises me.

“I disagree, but we have pastries to eat and shit to unload. Can I at least get your number, since you didn’t say yes to marriage that is?

” I grouse as I stand up, disappointed that Myra didn’t take my twine more than I would like to admit.

As I dust the dirt off my knee, Myra grins at me and I feel slightly less disappointed almost immediately.

Oh, the power this woman already has over me and she doesn’t even know.

“Nope, no, definitely not.” She smiles while shaking her head. Damn it, she wouldn’t accept my twine and now she won’t give me her number. It’s almost like she’s not interested in me, and I know that can’t be true, she was looking at my junk too long for that to be the case.

Pretty smile, pretty mate. My animal rumbles and for once I can’t even argue with him. Our mate is positively breathtaking to look upon when she smiles. I must be gawking because the next thing I know I’m being bumped in the shoulder by Chase.

“Come on man, let's eat these sacred pastries and get busy unloading. Here, Myra even got us coffee to help wash down these holy pastries.” Chase teases as he hands me a coffee from the drink holder. Taking a sip, I hum in approval of the taste.

“You like that?” Myra asks with a baiting grin.

“Why did you poison it?” I tease back.
