Chapter 19
Chapter Nineteen
Azrael
The moment we finish eating, I send for Elizabeth to guide the little toy back to her room. The glare Hevan throws my way as she leaves makes me smile inside.
A knock on the door is followed by Jensen poking his head inside. “Have you eaten already?” He knows damn well I have, but the smug grin on his face tells me he knows I didn’t eat alone. He jerks his chin toward the placemat set for Little Toy.
“I’ve got a job for you.”
“Figured.” He pulls his phone from his pants pocket, and I throw him the small cable to link his phone up to the bug scanner. After a few seconds, the light on the side of the small scanner goes green, giving us the all-clear.
“The girl upstairs, I want you to find out everything you can about her, with no one becoming aware.” He knows I’m referring to my father and his men.
His eyebrows pull together. “Any particular reason?”
“Yes. I asked you to.”
He snorts. “Do you have anything for me to go on?”
“Her name is Hevan. Her so-called boyfriend”—I spit the word out like poison—“is named Stefan Capri. Find him and bring him to me.” The very notion of her being on a date is a betrayal to me.
She allowed me to take her virginity, for Christ’s sake, and she was openly dating someone only a few days before.
Would she have been so easy with him too?
My chest constricts, and a dull ache forms around my heart.
Is this what it feels like to be cheated on? It certainly hurts like she has, even without her realizing it.
“You look like you’re about to commit murder. Can I suggest you aim it at one of your father’s men?” Jensen jokes.
“Anyone in particular?” I counter, sitting back in my chair.
“Yeah. Vector. The way he taunts Stone is beyond fucked up.”
I nod. “You know he’s my father’s bastard. His favorite one.” I roll my eyes. Just another reason there’s no way in hell I’d allow Sienna to marry him.
“Apple didn’t fall far from the tree there,” he muses.
“Same could be said about me. About Czar.”
He shakes his head venomously. “You’re a different kind of fucked up.”
I throw my head back in a roaring laugh, my entire body alight with amusement. “You’re not wrong.” The truth is, I am fucked-up, Czar too. You have to be to live in this world.
Maybe living in it isn’t what you’re destined to do; maybe you’re meant to thrive, a small voice whispers, sending a chill down my spine.
“Have the bastard chained in my basement within forty-eight hours.” I push out of my chair and head toward the door.
“Where the fuck are you going?”
I glance over my shoulder and give him a rare smile. “I’m going to play with my toy.”
