Chapter 8 #2

“Well, okay.” He rummaged around in the nightstand drawer. “Fuck. I put my condoms away because that social worker was coming and I don’t know where they are.”

“That’s because you didn’t hide them―I did,” Anne said and giggled. “They’re in the back of the drawer.”

Blue felt around until he found the familiar strip of prophylactics. “Aha! You knew what you were talking about,” he said with a chuckle.

She giggled again. “Yep. Wouldn’t lead you astray there. But I sure didn’t want Ms.Nosy-butt finding them.” The giggling stopped and she asked, “Last time you did this?”

“The Wednesday night before Indigo showed up.”

“What’s her name?”

Blue shrugged. “I have no idea.”

“You screwed a girl and didn’t ask her name?”

Blue felt tears fill his eyes and he was stunned. Trying to rein in his emotions was impossible when he said, “Not anymore.”

Words were replaced with kisses, hot, passionate kisses that seemed to last forever and still not long enough.

After a few minutes of that, he waited while Anne pulled her scrub top over her head and then unhooked her bra.

In a few seconds, it was gone, and Blue was overwhelmed.

God, she was beautiful! Instead of the usual stick-thin thing he was accustomed to, Anne’s body was lush and full, her hips as round as her breasts.

When he gripped them, his fingers sank into her flesh and she moaned.

That had to be the most amazing sound he’d ever heard.

He hadn’t tasted a woman since Bettina, and it was with joy and passion that he slid down Anne’s body, threw himself between her legs, and lapped at her folds.

It took him all of a half second to find what he was looking for, and her gasps were followed with pleading, begging, and cries of delight.

Blue was overcome with emotion. It had been too long since he’d been that connected to a woman, and he’d missed it more than he even realized.

For the first time he could remember, her reaction was far more important to him than what he might get out of the act, and he drove her onward and upward, hoping he remembered how to do what he was aiming for.

“Oh, god, Brent,” he heard her whisper. “Yeah. That’s it. Oh, god, please?” Her whispers turned to groans, and the groans turned to screams of ecstasy. “Please, god, stop? Brent! Please, stop!”

“You don’t mean that,” he said and chuckled.

Climbing back up her body, he looked down into her eyes.

This was it―do or die. He was pretty sure he was going to hate himself later, but he couldn’t help it.

It was time, and BrentWallace wasn’t a little kid anymore.

“I love you, Anne. Please don’t leave me. ”

Still gasping for breath, she strained upward to meet his lips with hers. When she’d fallen away, her head landing on the pillow, she smiled up at him. “I’m not going anywhere. I love you so much, Brent, you just don’t know. I don’t want you to leave me .”

The sad, lonely little boy inside Blue stared down at her. “You mean that, don’t you?”

She stroked a finger down his cheek and whispered, “I’ve never said anything I meant more.”

Blue took her, but for the first time in his life, it was with love and tenderness instead of simple reflexes and raw desire.

He’d fucked every woman he’d ever been intimate with, but not Anne.

It was lovemaking, the kind his soul had wanted but didn’t understand, and he stroked into her, surprised at the warmth that coursed through his chest. It wasn’t as exciting as what he was accustomed to, and that didn’t matter.

Excitement was highly overrated, as far as he was concerned.

No, this was something lasting, something solid and steady and healthy.

She wasn’t someone he wanted to impress or overwhelm.

He wanted her with him, experiencing it with him.

It wasn’t something he was doing to her.

It was something they were doing together, and the way his body responded told him this was the only woman he ever wanted to be with.

It was his dream come true. BrentAlan Wallace had found his home, and it was with that strong woman in that little bedroom of that shitty little house.

But the setting wasn’t important, only the two of them, and it was clear to him that for every emotion he was feeling, she was feeling it too.

As he braced himself above her, her hands wrapped around his waist and gripped him, and her touch seemed almost electric.

Every moan that escaped his lips was echoed by Anne, and the connection he could feel with her was more real than anything he’d ever had with anyone else. It was transcendent and life changing.

He tried to hold off, but when he felt her pulse around his length, Blue let go.

After all the times he’d felt jubilant at conquering a woman, that was the first time he’d felt satisfied.

Being one with her was more than he’d ever anticipated, and when he fell on top of her, exhausted, her arms wrapped around him.

He managed to tunnel his under her and grip her to him, and when he rolled them to their sides, he kissed her again with all the love he could muster.

“Brent?”

“Um-hmmm,” Blue hummed and kissed the tip of her nose.

“I love you,” she whispered. “You and Indigo.”

“Know what?”

She shook her head. “No. What?”

“I love you too. And Polly and Toady. I hope Indigo grows up to be half as good as those two.”

He sighed when she buried her face in his chest. “Don’t let go,” she begged him.

“Never. And babe?”

“Yeah?”

Blue put a finger under her chin and pulled her face up until he could look in her face. “I’m going to get a good job. I’m going to make enough money that we’re equals. I’m going to pull my own weight, and I want to make you proud.”

He wasn’t prepared for the sob that escaped her lips. “It’s too late. I’m already proud of you, honey. You have no idea.”

Someone was proud of him. He didn’t know exactly how, but he was going to show her he could be the man she’d been looking for, the man she always wanted.

He’d show them all.

A shrill cry rang out. “I suppose I’d better go see to my daughter,” Blue said and kissed her again. She rewarded him with a dozen sweet little kisses. As he sat up and pulled on his briefs, he said, “And I suppose we need to talk to the kids, huh?”

“Yeah. I think we should. But for now, we’ve got to be careful. I think we should talk to Glen about our relationship before anyone really knows.”

“I don’t want to keep it a secret. I want the world to know,” Blue said, grinning.

“Yeah, but I don’t know how that’ll play with Ms.Nosy-butt.”

Blue nodded. “True. Could go either way, I suppose.”

“Yeah. I think it would be okay to tell the kids, as long as they understand that until you have social services off your ass, they need to be quiet.”

“Agreed.” Striding toward the bedroom door, Blue looked back at the woman in his bed. “But this isn’t confined to the bedroom, angel. This is an all-over-the-house, down-the-street-and-across-the-court-square love, girl. I’m not going to keep it secret forever.”

Anne gave him a huge smile. “Neither am I.”

They only had about twenty minutes between the time Polly and Toady came home and Anne had to go to work. When the kids stepped into the house, Blue was there, Indigo in his lap. “Hey, Mr.Blue! What are you doing here?”

“You still haven’t found a new job, have you?” Toady asked. “You could be a bus driver! Ours is awful,” the little boy announced.

“We need to talk to you guys. Want to sit down?” Anne asked them, and both kids stared at her like she was about to tell them they weren’t having Christmas.

“What’s wrong, Mom?” Polly asked. “Something’s wrong. You look serious.”

“This is serious,” Anne told them. “There’s something we need to tell you.”

There was silence and Blue knew something was going on between the kids. “We know what this is,” Polly said, her eyes sad.

“Yeah. We know,” Toady said, staring at his lap.

“Oh, yeah?” Anne winked at Blue. “What’s going on?”

“Mr.Blue and Indigo are moving away, aren’t they?” Polly’s eyes met Blue’s and she started to cry. “Please don’t leave, Mr.Blue! We want you to stay here forever, don’t we Toady?”

The little boy nodded without looking up. “Uh-huh.” To Blue’s horror, he started to cry too.

“No, no, no! Nothing like that!” Blue had promised Anne she could do all the talking, but he couldn’t help it. He had to say something. “I’m not going anywhere!”

Polly rubbed her eyes and Toady sniffed hard. “Oh. Okay. If that’s not it, what is it?” Polly asked.

“Something has happened between Brent and me,” Anne said.

“Who’s Brent?” Toady chirped.

“That’s Mr.Blue’s real name, dummy,” Polly said with a snort.

“Don’t call me a dummy!” Toady yelled. “Mom!”

“Stop! Don’t you want to hear what I’m going to say?” she asked, grinning.

“I don’t know. Do we?” Polly asked.

“I think you do.” Anne sat up straight and took a deep breath, then blew it out. “Brent and I, well, we’re together.”

Blue watched and knew the kids had no idea what she was talking about, so he decided maybe he needed to jump in. “What your mom is trying to tell you is that I’m her boyfriend.”

Both children sat like they were shell-shocked before Polly finally asked, “Really? Are you serious?”

Anne nodded. “Yes, honey. We’re just getting the relationship started, but we belong together. We know that. I hope you guys will be happy for us.”

“Happy? Happy? This is like Christmas and my birthday and Valentine’s Day and the Fourth of July and… I’m so happy!” Polly squealed. “So you’re going to be our dad?”

Blue watched Anne’s hand go to her chest, fluttering as it went, and he smiled. “I hope eventually you’ll see me that way. There’s nothing that would make me happier.”

“See, Mom?” Toady said, grinning. “He’s not an asshole like you said.”
