Chapter 2

His Love

Duroc is sure that Bindi is his one.

He’s tried to do better especially since he knows what she went

through when the haters attacked her home. She seems human although

these days it is hard to tell. Since he won’t be the alpha that

doesn’t really matter.

“Hey Duroc, want to grab

your list? Why are you looking so glum?” Rita asked.

“I had hoped we would

switch partners by now. We used to rotate so we would get to know

everyone we worked with.”

“You having partner

issues?”

“It’s not that so much as

just wanting to get to know the others. My life might depend on

them someday and I’d like to know how much help I can count

on.”

She shot him a look of disbelief. “I’ll

switch Tammy and Mollie.” Rita grinned. He’d never realized she was

impish before.

His voice dropped. “Is it true Bindi

might be going to HQ?” Duroc asked.

“I honestly don’t know.

Tyne will decide and he may send someone and that’s when she’ll

leave. That may be when I actually know.”

“He doesn’t really do that

to you, does he?”

“Yes, but it’s still the

best job either of us ever had.” Rita insisted.

“Alright, just hand me my

list.” It was obvious she was unable to help him.

Ray came in before he left and greeted

him. He was paired with a mated wolf, but Duroc didn’t think he

knew about it yet. Eventually, they might figure things out. What

would Tyne do then? Maybe he should just worry about his own

problems? They were serious enough.

He could see Bindi and Grant loading

up. They were laughing and talking like they’d known each other

forever. “You’re wasting your time.” Tammy said as she walked up.

“I don’t know why you’d want her anyway.”

“Don’t worry about me. You

have your own issues to worry about.” Duroc said as she salivated

over Grant. Three months of working as a team and he still didn’t

like her or feel any attachment to her. This girl was not a team

player. He suspected she’d come here to get married and had her

eyes set on Grant.

While it was true he wanted Bindi, at

least he could concentrate on his work. Tammy didn’t come anywhere

near to holding up her end. She was here hunting a groom and not to

work. It’s why their team did the fewest jobs of any team. They

were told she’d been fully trained but someone must have been

slacking on that job. Tyne would have never been happy with the

amount of work she did.

Duroc wasn’t happy with it either.

Maybe it was time to talk to Tyne. He needed to know what Bindi was

up to. If she was going to HQ, so was he. Maybe he’d get to see her

more. Moe would help with that since she was a hopeless romantic.

With her on his side, maybe he could win this battle for

love.

“What do you mean by that?

I’m just fine.” Tammy insisted.

“Whatever. Let’s leave and

try to get some work done today.”

“Fine.” She was pissed but

at least she was quiet.

The house when they arrived, was a

plain two bedroom. These were transplants from back east. At least

they would handle the cold months well. “I’m glad to see you. We’ve

heard there are some nuts running around attacking people.” The

male who answered the door said. “I’m Craig.”

“My name is Grant. Yeah,

we’ve had a bit of trouble. Those guys are nuts. They are also

violent. According to them they hate werewolves and witches, but so

far, they hurt and killed people they’ve admitted are just

human.”

“They can’t find their

legendary creatures, so they kill humans instead?”

“Exactly, they are fruit

loops.” Grant agreed. “This is my partner, Tammy.”

“Nice to meet you.” Craig

said.

“Same here.” Tammy

said.

“We’d best get out our gear

and get your system set in.” Duroc waved to Tammy hoping she’d try

to help more but she stood around until he glared at her then she

dragged ass to the truck.

He loaded up and carried his gear where

it was needed. Setting things where they were needed, he went back

to set the control box in place. Tammy was still at the truck

messing around. He worked fast to get the job done. It was nearly

there when she came back.

“Doesn’t look like you even

needed me.” Tammy observed.

“You’re right, I

don’t.”

Now she was quiet but at the rest of

the jobs, she tried a little. Duroc wouldn’t work with that woman

again. At least they had no problems today. They got back and he

went to his place and called Moe.

“Wolf Security and

Investigations, how may I help you?” Moe asked.

“Moe, I’m about to explode.

I’ve had all of Tammy I can take. It’s not even that she doesn’t

seem to know what to do. It’s that she won’t do it.”

“I didn’t like her, but we

seemed short. We have some new ones nearly trained. Mollie

alright?”

“She works with someone

else, so I don’t know. Everyone likes her better than Tammy.” Duroc

admitted.

“Maybe she’ll work

out.”

“You can give her more

time, but Tammy needs to go.”

“I hear you. You’ll be

short for about two weeks before we send a replacement.” Moe

admitted.

“What about Bindi? Is she

coming back to HQ?”

“She doesn’t want that

advertised.”

“I want back there too.”

Duroc said.

“When?”

”I can come before or after

she does or even at the same time that she does.”

“That’s generous of you.

Lots of choices. We’ll send several replacements and rotate some

personnel. You’ll come here when those replacements come and so

will Bindi.” Moe explained.

“Thank you, Moe. This is so

important to me.”

“I understand.”

He had known Moe was the go to. Rita

was at the desk as he entered. “Did you do this?””

“Do what?” Duroc

asked.

“Tyne called Tammy and

she’s out of here. A ticket to anywhere in the US is what he

offered her. She asked for a few days to plan. Tyne agreed. But she

won’t be working here anymore.”

“Good. No one can possibly

deal with her.”

“What did she do?” Rita

asked.

“I finally decided to try

to get her to pull her weight. Tammy pouted and when she finally

got back into the house, I was nearly done. That was all I could

take. A call to Moe, and that was it.”

Duroc felt good to be working towards

his goal. The sad thing was that he didn’t know how Bindi would

react. What was sad was he knew little about her background. Who

were her parents? Did she want to mate someday? How did she feel

about children? What did she think about wolves?

Grant and Bindi came in. “Hello

everyone.” Grant and Bindi said together.

“Hi, Guys.” Rita and Duroc

replied.

“The whole crew should get

together sometime at one of our restaurants.” Rita

suggested.

“I vote for the Polar

Bear.” Duroc replied.

“Having trouble with crazy

Mad?” Grant asked.

“You too? I’m afraid she’s

going to try to take me on a table.”

Grant looked like he shivered. “That

woman is awful.”

“You’ll get no argument

here.” Duroc admitted.

The two wolves commiserated. Grant

wasn’t so bad after all.

“How about the Polar Bear?”

Rita asked.

“That place is fine.” Duroc

agreed.

“Yeah.” Grant said as well.

“When do you want to do this?”

“How about an hour from now

when everyone should be back?” Rita suggested.

There was a chorus of yeses. They were

going to have a party. If he behaved, maybe Bindi would see what a

great guy he could be. All he could do now was put a cap on his

temper and pull his alpha back so he wouldn’t try to take control.

A calm behavior would begin to win his mate. This was too important

to mess up.

Going back to his place, he got ready.

A hot shower first then he found a nice pair of jeans, a good shirt

and he was ready to go. Looking at the watch, he saw he still had

some time, but he would head that way and reserve the table for his

fellow workers. After ordering a mixed drink, he sipped at it as he

waited. Duroc planned to order the first round when everyone got

here.

Grant was next then Rita and Ray. Bindi

came and then one of the mated guys brought his mate. Mollie came

last. The others had been invited but were not expected. He ordered

a round of drinks. “Aren’t you catching the meal too?” Roy asked.

“Everyone usually takes a turn.”

Duroc went ahead and put it on his

bill, but no one had paid much here in the past. Did calling it a

party make that much difference? Apparently, it did. He’d ended up

next to Bindi and she didn’t seem to mind as much as she had

before. Leaning over, he whispered in her ear. “I’ve heard Tammy is

leaving.”

“Really?” She looked

excited. “That will make things easier on Rita.”

“Not to mention the rest of

us. I’m afraid she won’t leave without causing us

trouble.”

“That observation fits her

personality.”

“Believe me, I know. That

woman has been a big problem for me.” Duroc said.

“Will they replace

her?”

“Moe plans to rotate some

employees and send several here. I doubt we’ll know who until those

new employees arrive.”

“I guess we’ll wait and

see.” Bindi supposed.

Was it his imagination or did she look

guilty. He’d wanted her to tell him she was going to HQ, but he’d

not really expected it. Maybe they’d be on better terms in two

weeks when they both loaded on the plane. She’d not told him so she

couldn’t be mad at him. Right?

“Will you be working alone

since Tammy will be gone?”

“I don’t know. Rita will

set me up with a partner.” Duroc admitted. Was she worried about

him or afraid she’d be paired with him? If only he knew.

The food came and everyone started

eating. There was a lot of joking and fun and the drinks helped

those not supernatural relax. Duroc wasn’t affected a bit nor were

most of them. Bindi was slightly drunk as was Mollie. When the

party was finished, he was making sure Bindi got home alright while

Grant escorted Millie Mollie home.

“I like you Duroc when

you’re not so mean and alpha.” Bindi said with a giggle.

“How much do you like

me?”

“A lot.”

“Like I could be your

boyfriend?” Duroc asked.

“Maybe.” She threw her arms

around his neck.

“Sweetheart, you’ve had too

much to drink. You need to go home and get some sleep.”

“Are you putting me to

bed?” Bindi asked.

“We’re not going to bed
