Chapter 3 #3

available, and he was qualified to do everything. Bindi was only

trained in setting up systems. Did she even want to do the other

things Tyne offered?

Being a personal bodyguard could be

interesting, but Bindi wasn’t strong enough. She had shown she

could and would use weapons as equalizers when needed. Going on

investigations was exciting but again, dangerous. Maybe not more

dangerous than setting up systems in Wilde had been. He’d ask her,

but that would give away that he knew she was leaving.

“It’s getting late, and I

need to be my best. I think everyone has a newbie to train and I’ve

not done that before.” Bindi confided.

“It shouldn’t be hard. They

are already trained. It’s getting familiar with the people and the

area they need help with.”

“That shouldn’t be hard at

all, but I’m still learning about the places here.”

“They just need the basics.

It’s not like we don’t have a list of hotels and eating places.”

Duroc pointed out.

“Maybe someone needs to

come up with a guide.”

“That would be a lot of

work, and no one has anytime here.”

“You’re right. Also, what

would you say about Mad’s? Good food but crazy owner?” Bindi

suggested.

“Warning to all single

males. The owner is a shark, beware?”

They both broke into laughter. As funny

as it sounded, it was the truth. The problem was that people being

as they were, many would go just to see what it was all about. For

many, Mad’s would be their first stop.

“I’m going to walk

home.”

“Let me escort you there.”

Duroc suggested.

“No. It’s not far and I’ve

been here long enough to be recognized by locals.”

“There are dangers that

aren’t local.”

She pulled a stun gun out of her

pocket. “See? I’m fine.”

Duroc walked her to the door and gave

her the sweetest kiss before he opened it and let her leave. “Be

careful.”

As soon as she was gone, he called

Joey. “Joey.”

“Hey, Joey. Bindi just left

my place, and she wouldn’t let be me escort her.”

Joey cussed. “I’ll have Naqi send

someone after her.”

The line went dead. He’d wait a few

minutes then call to see if Bindi had made it. It was his hope Joey

would chew his mate out. She wouldn’t listen to him, but maybe Joey

could get through to her. It wasn’t long and his phone

rang.

“Hello?”

“It’s Joey. She was

attacked but Naqi and the guys got there in time to prevent

anything serious from happening.”

“Oh, goddess. Why won’t

that woman listen to me?”

“She’s stubborn and wants

to be independent.” Joey explained. “This attack will remind her

that in situations like this, she shouldn’t go it

alone.”

“I hope so. Things like

this happen everywhere.”

“They had ten males. She

had no chance because they know she had a stun gun. The pepper

spray wasn’t enough to deal with all of them.”

“I hope she realizes what a

bad choice she made.” Duroc observed.

“Be nice to her. While they

didn’t get down to business, they did tell her what they had

planned for her. It scared her to death.”

“I wish I could kill them

all.”

“They got knocked around

pretty good.” Joey offered.

He tried to calm himself so Bindi

wouldn’t get too upset. Leaving his apartment, he hurried to Joey’s

because he needed to see for himself that Bindi was alright. When

he got there, Bindi had just arrived. Holding his arms open, Bindi

rushed into them. Duroc pulled her in closer to give her comfort.

These assholes had thrown her for a loop.

“I just need to take a

shower and go to sleep.” Bindi insisted.

“Okay. Let me take care of

you.”

Bindi nodded and he led her back to the

room she usually used. While she was in the shower, he got out

something for her to wear and placed it on the counter in her

bathroom. All he could do right now was waiting wait for her to be

done.

The door opened and she came out

wearing the gown he’d gotten out for her. His mate looked sad. She

fell into his arms where he sat on the bed. Duroc took it for an

invitation and kicked off his shoes and fell back on the bed

wrapped around his woman. Eventually, they fell asleep. He woke in

the morning with enough time to eat breakfast here, go home and

shower and dress, and head back to the office.

Rita was giving out assignments and

matching everyone up with a partner. Bindi got a new guy that was a

good fighter. This pleased him because he was worried about her.

His partner was a human woman This woman seemed alright, and he

would do his best to help her adjust.

“I’m Duroc.”

“I’m Lizzy.”

“If you’re ready. Let’s

load up and hit the road.” He said. After he had the truck loaded,

he said goodbye to Bindi and hit the road with his new

partner.

“Have you been here long?”

Lizzy asked.

“Only a few months. But

I’ve been with Tyne over a year.”

“Do you like it

here?”

“Tyne put in nice housing

which helped. The locals are great and there are things to do, but

it can be dangerous out in the snow and on the ice.” Duroc

admitted.

“I heard there were some

crazies attacking people.”

“There are but it’s slowed

lately. Just be careful and you should be fine.”

“Will we be partners

permanently?”

“Probably not. Rita has

been switching partners out often.”

“Good to know.”

After the first day, he decided Lizzy

was a good worker. Not overly outgoing, she was still friendly.

Duroc wanted to know how Bindi was doing with her new partner. As

soon as they got in, he intended to check on her. Lizzy followed

him into the office.

“Bindi make it in yet?” He

asked.

“She made it in just before

you did. I believe she was going to Joey’s.” Rita

replied.

As soon as Rita was done with them, he

hurried out to go to Joey’s. “I was expecting you.” Joey admitted.

“Bindi is taking a showershower, and she should be back out here

soon. Have a seat and tell me how things are going.”

“We have newbies to train

right now.”

“I heard that. Bindi thinks

hers is a good guy and has been well trained.”

“Mine is too. Rita

shouldn’t have any trouble with them.” Duroc assessed.

“Here she comes. You

alright, Bindi?”

“Yeah. Hey Duroc. How did

your day go?”

“Lizzy seems to be alright.

How about you?”

“Dennis is a good guy.

Maybe Rita got lucky with her newbies.” Bindi supposed.

“Rita said tomorrow we’ll

be completely caught up. Tyne’s considering adding

investigations.”

“You were right about that.

I don’t know much about investigations.”

“Several of these newbies

have already been trained in it.” Duroc explained.

“You think it is

hard?”

“Not if you are trained

well.”

“You’ve done this before?”

Bindi asked.

“I went through the

training with Tyne.”

“He never even offered it

to me.”

“It’s not something that is

just offered. I requested it and had to pay for it. If I work an

investigation successfully, I’ll get some of my money

back.”

“Why is that?” Bindi

asked.

“He’s had bad luck with

people who go through investigation training just to quit and go

work somewhere else. That’s what he told me.”

“I guess that’s

understandable.”

“Tyne is a businessman. He

needs to make money.” Duroc pointed out.

“I get it. Was it worth

paying for?”

“It is if you need it to

open or run a business.”

They talked a bit more and eventually

he went to his place. The rest of the week went well, and Lizzy was

doing a good job. She’d learned about some of the local places and

how to use the list which was full of good information. The week

had finished and tomorrow it was time to go to HQ with the others

that were also going.
