Chapter 8 #2

“Not so much bad as there’s a lot

going on and itsit’s going to be hard work. I’m not sure who to

trust and when they don’t think I’m looking I get dirty looks.

Those running things liked the way things were. They care nothing

for the others. Many of those I’m dealing with live like they’re

rich. Damon is staying until the wardens he sent for arrive, but

we’re on our own at night.”

“Not completely on our own, Marissa

put a protection spell on our room. She’s also sending Harry for a

long visit.”

“Harry?” Duroc said

concerned.

“Harry is a sweetheart.”

“If you say so. You’ll be working with

her more than I do. I like her, I really do.”

“It’s the toad thing, isn’t it?” Bindi

asked.

“I’ll admit it and any honest wolf

will. No one wants to be a toad or a snail.”

“We need the protectionprotection.

There are some good people here, but they’ve been beat down. They

won’t step in to help or even probably to warn us.”

“I believe you. Bring Harry on.” Duroc

agreed.

“I believe she’ll be here in the

morning.”

“Great.” He didn’t look like he

believed it.

Bindi had the bed ready and went to

the shower. She was tired and planned to cleanupclean up then get

some sleep. Apparently Duroc had other ideas as he joined her under

the water. A shiver ran down her back as he pressed against her,

and his hands went to her shoulders.

He whispered in her ear. “I need you

so much.” And she melted against him.

Duroc picked her up and leaned her

against the shower as he entered her. Bindi moaned and her legs

wrapped around him. Her muscles squeezed him tightly in her

channel. Her mate groaned. It felt good to her too. He moved faster

and she felt her climax coming. Just a little more and she exploded

and then felt him do the same.

They finished by washing up and drying

then they went to sleep worn out. The sleep was deep and

rejuvenating and when they woke, they felt much better and ready to

take on the job ahead of them. It was a good thing too as that job

was just beginning and Harry was arriving today. That would shake

things up even more.

It was breakfast time and Lois was no

wherenowhere to be found. Bindi thought they needed to eat so she

looked at the supplies which weren’t enough for more than a handful

of meals for everyone. She got started on the best breakfast she

could provide. Biscuits went in the oven and a huge skillet went on

the stovetop. She fixed bacon in the oven since she needed so much

and then she began to fix scrambled eggs in another huge skillet.

Finishing up the gravy she’d started in the other skillet, she

added cheese to the scrambled eggs. Bindi went to the dining room.

“I need some help.”

Several ladies followed her into the

kitchen. “What do we do?” One asked.

“Eat first then you can help cook and

wash dishes.”

That’s what they did, and she fixed

her breakfast after they got started. It would take several people

to fix food for all these pack members. They needed a bigger area

to feed people and to eat in shifts. She liked Ariel’s food bar

idea and hoped to implement it. Harry hadn’t appeared yet, so she

saved a plate of food for her.

Bindi sat down now and ate her food.

Wolves had to have good meals to keep their energy up. Duroc came

in with some guys and they filled their plates up high but there

was no gravy now. The other ladies didn’t know how to make it and

they cooked bacon, eggs, biscuits, and potatoes instead. It was

good too, but Ariel’s cook had gotten her hooked on that sausage

gravy.

She sat with Duroc so they could talk.

“What’s up with the cook?”

“The cook and her mate were the ones

that jumped into the circle. They seem to be waiting for their

punishment.”

“I need a cook, so I need to know if

she’s any good. Tell her to work for lunch and supper. There’s help

for her, but I’ll probably get a professional cook too.”

“Okay. An issue though is money. I

don’t want to hire someone we can’t afford. Damon should have some

idea of where the money is and someone, we can get to gain control

of what we need. It’s not like he didn’t plan this.” Duroc

explained.

“Talking about me?” Damon walked in

with Marissa and an amused look on his face.

It was clear to Bindi now that Damon

was orchestrating many of these takeovers and she had heard of

several. She couldn’t deny his machinations were improving the wolf

world and eventually Duroc and she might even appreciate what had

happened. That didn’t help them right now.

“Yes, and how you managed to get

exactly what you wanted.”

“The council wanted this. But don’t

get upset. I have a list of people you’ll need that can help. You

are new atto this. Not running a pack, but new at taking over one

that has been poorly run. First let me assure you that there is a

large amount of money in the pack account. Next, I must also tell

you some of the people in charge shouldn’t be. Get rid of your

accountant. Bindi may have to take charge for a while. She did the

books when she worked at a café. Look around at your people, you

have several that were treated poorly that are smart and able to do

these jobs with a bit of training. Several alphas have already

offered to send you help. Word gets out quickly. I’ll give you a

list of them also.”

“That will help.” Duroc

admitted.

“As far as a cook goes, you have

several good candidates here that need a bit of training or school

if your tastes are more gourmet. Bindi doesn’t have the time to do

the cooking often. Alpha bitch work will keep her busy.”

“I think I saw Harry outside flirting

with a group of guys.” Marissa mentioned.

“Why don’t we go get her?” Bindi

suggested and they left Damon and Duroc to talk.

“It is already lunchtime. Let’s check

on the kitchen first then find Harry.”

“You’re right. We need to make sure

they are ready for her.”

Naturally they weren’t. Everything was

in disarray. No one was using the dishwasher which was actually a

large commercial one. Bindi immediately grabbed a teenager and

showed her how to run it. Then she got another and told him to wash

his hands and start taking out the dishes and putting them up.

Everything was here to do what was needed since all these

appliances were the large commercial kind. The lack was in the

help. Most of these people had no idea how to do any of these jobs,

but that could be remedied.

“Let’s go get Harry now.” Bindi

suggested.

Marissa headed out in front of her.

There was Harry surrounded by most of the single guys in the pack.

“Hey there, Mati Hari.”

“You talking to me?” Harry

asked.

“Yup, you. We need to get to work.”

Bindi observed.

“What exactly do you need?”

“We’ll cover that privately, but

meanwhile you know the background. Let’s see what we can feed you

before we get to work.”

“I love you Bindi. You know what’s

important.”

“I know it’s lunch now, but I put back

a plate for breakfast. That I’ll get out and heat for

you.”

Bindi did just that and there was a

table in the kitchen that they sat at. A commercial coffee maker

provided a cup of coffee for each of them. While Harry ate

breakfast, Bindi helped catch upup on the dishes. Once that was

done, Harry was still hungry, so she got her some lunch and

dessert.

“Have you had enough?” Bindi

asked.

“For now. So, what do we

do?”

“I need a protective spell on this

house so Duroc and I can sleep in peace. While we have Marissa is a

good time. Does it cover those already in the house if they have

bad intentions?”

“Yes.” Harry and Marissa said

together.

“Good. Where do we need to

go?”

“Anywhere will work, but why don’t we

go outside?” Marissa suggested.

“Okay.”

They walked out and made a circle just

the three of them. She pulled off a necklace she wore to make an

artifact. It was pretty and looked witchy with the sun, moon, and

stars on it.

“Ooh, that’s pretty.” Marissa

commented. “Let’s begin. You can hold it.”

Marissa chanted while she and Harry

gave her energy. The artifact when used would draw energy from the

transgressor. They would get the evil they sent out back in kind.

It would also draw a small amount of energy off nature. Someone

screamed loudly and came running out. It was an older lady she’d

not met yet.

“I also made it to where no one but

you or Duroc can remove the artifact.” Marissa

explained.

“Looks like you already lost one

member.” Harry observed.

“I noticed that.” Bindi didn’t know

where she’d gone. Maybe she had just kept running.

“What now?” Harry asked.

“Anything you do besides magic?” Bindi

asked.

“I can work construction. Ariel made

me but if I can’t use magic, I suck at it.”

“Some stores and restaurants need to

be set up. I need a grocery store, a general store, and a gas

station with a convenience store, can you help with any of those?”

Bindi asked.

“Don’t you need a building

first.”

“If you make one with magic, is it

there for good?”

“For good or bad, but it needs energy

to stay.”

“What if it takes just a little bit

from the customers?” Marissa asked.

“Give me another option? What if I

have the materials to build it and the magic just puts it

together?” Bindi asked.

“Not sure. No one has ever wanted to

test that.”

“Okay. I know Harry’s magic tends to

be destructive. How about taking the barn apart and stacking the

materials in it by type?”

Harry looked excited. “I can do

that.”

“While you’re hanging out with the

boys, see if you can find out anything? Just listen, okay?” Bindi

directed.

“That barn that is falling partapart?

Nothing else?”

“Exactly. See you at

supper.”

“Are you sure you should have herher,

do it?” Marissa asked.

“We need it done to build the

apartment house. It’s a bit crowded in here and everyone wants

their own space. It would take the guys a couple days to do it

right.”

“But what will they think of her being

able to do it.?”

“That magic can be useful and not all

witches are wicked?” Bindi suggested.

“I hope you’re right.”
