Chapter 9 #2
that are coming as quickly as they can. Some believe they will make
it by tomorrow. We also have a large tent we rented to houseput
them in. It was Ariel’s suggestion.” Bindi replied.
“I guess if it worked for her, it'll
work for us.”
“That's what I decided
too.”
“We went to the fish plant today and
we brought back some samples. I hope this will help with the food
that we need.” Duroc said. “I'll send someone to bring it in if you
have someone show them where to put it.”
“I'll show them.” Rosey, who was
nearby, offered.
“She's a keeper.” Bindi
said.
“It's hard to find one.”
“They didn't want anyone to know how
to do much of anything. I don't really understand that. It was like
they feared them being educated or trained.”
“They did. That's when they would
figure out how badbadly they were being treated. Those in the
factories have no benefits and are poorly paid.” Duroc
said.
“What do you plan to do?”
“I'll set things right. It will just
take some time.”
“There are many problems here too.
Nothing is as it should be. The laundry is just set up for the
precious few. We have the same issue for the kitchen. This alpha
seem to care little for most of the people in his pack. A small
group got everything, and the others struggled to make it on
crumbs.” Bindi said.
A week passed and the helphelp
arrived. Somehow, they managed to get all the needed supplies for
the buildings they were constructing and those needed for the
volunteers who came to help. One apartment house was nearly done,
and the top two floors were filled with those residents who were
assigned there. The second apartment building had been started, and
the third had just begun.
Providing places for everyone to live
was the biggest challenge but not the only one. They had managed to
set up a laundry area in a new building. Feeding everyone had also
been difficult but so far, they had done it. that was with rented
equipment like grills and coolers. They had also build an area with
picnic tables and those they had purchased. It was closer to where
the buildings were currently being built.
The help the other packs had sent had
been amazing. He didn't know what they would have done without
them. Nat had uncovered huge amounts of money that had gone into
the packs new account. Duroc felt confident in letting his mate
hire for those needed positions and purchasing needed items for all
the upgrades they were currently installing.
Damon and Marissa had left this
morning. Harry was enjoying herself too much to even think about
leaving. The witch had been right about the young males getting
over the fact that she was a witch and coming back for more. She
had been immensely helpful with heavy loads that needed lifting.
That had helped speed the construction along. All they had to do
was keep her well-fed.
As some of their young men had become
better trained at construction it had moved along much faster.
There was no doubt in Duroc’s mind that they would add a
construction crew to their list of businesses. Many of those plans
would have to wait because these crews that had
volunteered, volunteered were only here to build housing.
Things were still starting to come
together. He could envision the plan that they had for the pack
coming together. Duroc hoped his mate could see it too. Every time
he came back from a hard day at the factories, he saw massive
improvements in the way things were going. Bindi was incredible in
the way she was running the household. She was managing to feed a
huge amount of people, keep up with the laundry, and everyone and
had a place to lay they're head at night.
He was glad he had taken the advice to
turn things over to Nat. She had gotten together with Jameson and
her team and his. The group add had initiated many of the changes
that he and Jameson had discussed.
“There you are.” Jameson said
grinning.
“Tell me there isn’t more?”
“No, I just thought you’d want to know
we initiated the last benefit and now all we have to do is find the
pension for those that lost it. I found one of those people who is
retired and willing to work with Nat and her team to recover it for
everyone working here at the time. We won’t be involved in that
process. All we have left to do is decide if we wish to give
something to those who were poorly paid and denied
benefits.”
“Did you say that our people have
medical and dental insurance?”
“I don't think I said because most
wolves either have it provided at the pack or don't have any. It's
not a concern many have because it's rarely used. We do have a
small number of non wolves but of those only the humanshumans would
probably be interested in that. If you could get a doctor to set up
an office near here that they could use for free, that would
probably cover what was needed.” Jameson observed.
“Could you check into
that?”
“I can put that on my
list.”
“Remember, I told you to get whatever
help you need. Don't try to do everything yourself that simply
isn’t necessary.” Duroc said.
“I understand and I will get help if
necessary.”
It wasn't incrediblean incredible
relief to have Jameson taking care of so many things, but he wanted
to learn from others mistakes and made sure that Nat spot checked
any work being done. He wondered what kind of help Bindi was
getting. As things began to come together, he realized it was great
to have friends and family when you needed them. Duroc would be
sure to be there if needed by any of his friends or
family.
Many of those that had come here with
him were no longer here. Being on his own now felt rather odd. The
council so far had left them alone, but he knew they would expect
something. This was a very wealthy pack that had just been
mismanaged terribly. One might think they would be pleased at that
point that he would have things running properly and they were
getting they’re due as wolf law provided. Unfortunately, he had
lived a long time and he had seen that the council was rarely
happy. The other shoe would drop, and he was uncertain what they
could possibly expect from him.
Had it been money, they would have
already demanded a share. Hopefully, it would be something that he
didn't have to feel bad about giving. His day was at an end, and he
felt that he had regained control of the fish processing business.
This business was owned half by the pack and was now half his
personally.
The next business he would give close
scrutiny, scrutiny was the casino. Nat had given him enough
information and suggestions that he felt ready to proceed. He did
not leave the lumber mill untouched all this time. There was just
more to be done there. No one man could possibly manage all of this
without help. The challenge was to find good and trustworthy
help.
