Chapter 4

Sawyer

Allison might be determined to ignore me but I can’t keep my eyes off her. We are on a half day trek up the mountain and I have elected to hang back hoping to talk to her. I was an idiot last night. Smooth talking might have worked for me in the past but Allison is different. She has always been different. She’s got more class and intelligence than her co-workers who are also hanging at the back of the pack, fluttering their fake eyelashes at me and touching me more than necessary.

What I wouldn’t give to get Allison alone and explain to her that she makes my brain go crazy. That I hadn’t meant to offend or insult her last night, I just want to spend time with her. Get to know her. All those same urges from high school of just wanting to spend one night with her. She is pure and sweet and everything I don’t deserve in this world.

I get my chance when the trail passes around a large boulder. Ensuring that Ally and I are at the very back of the pack I hold her back.

“I’m sorry about last night. I probably shouldn’t have said those things.”

She shrugs and won’t make eye contact. “You probably hit on all the girls. Just like high school.”

I had told myself to take it slow. But standing here, halfway up the mountain in the sunshine, her face slightly flushed from the trek, she is looking irresistible.

“I don’t hit on all the girls, Ally. I just can’t seem to help myself with you. You’re the girl I always dreamt of, and now here you are, on my mountain. It’s like a dream come true. Don’t you feel it?”

I graze her arm with my fingertips. Touching her softly. She doesn’t move away and I take a little step towards her. Her back against the hard rock I take another little step, smiling at the thought of kissing her.

She lets me reach out and cup her face, running my thumb across her bottom lip. I lean in. So close we can feel each other's breath. I hold off as long as I can but she isn’t objecting or pushing me away.

Slipping my hand into her hair, our lips touch and it is like a damn breaking. Trapped between my body and the rock I push into her as I claim her mouth in a hungry kiss. A kiss filled with yearning and lust and desire for something I shouldn’t even let myself wish for.

“What the hell, Allison!” A shrill voice from behind has me pulling away. I first see Ally’s look of horror and then turn to find one of her co-workers looking angry.

“Ah, Miss. Goodall had something in her eye. All fixed now.” I step away from Allison and hope my lie has worked. I don’t give a damn who knows I kissed her, but it seems to have upset Ally. I stand and wait for the two women to walk on ahead and keep my eye on them as they move up the path. Well, mostly I’m keeping an eye on Allison to make sure she is okay. And I’m half hoping she tells her fashionably dressed co-worker to go to hell and comes back to finish what we started.

What I would do if we were up here alone. To see her free and naked up here in the wilds. No stolen kisses. To have her as mine. To know her body, what makes her moan out for more. That is what I want. What I need. What I can’t get out of my mind.
