Epilogue

Allison

One Year Later

I stand watching as the kids work together on the obstacle course. They are city kids and this group is loud. Everybody is so excited to be out in the woods. For most of these kids they have barely been to a park, let alone a mountain camp. I love spending my days outdoors in nature, working with the kids.

But off to the side there is one little girl hiding behind a tree. I go over to her and kneel down, wiping a tear off the ten year old’s sweet little face.

“What’s wrong Amy? Do you want to have a go at one of the obstacles?”

The little girl shakes her head.

“Are you feeling a bit scared?”

She nods her head.

“Do you know I used to be scared too?”

“But Miss. Ally, I’ve seen you do all the things. You don’t seem scared.”

I put an arm around the little girl, feeling her pain. “There was a time when I didn’t want to try anything. I was always worried I would get hurt. But then I came here and I went across those logs. And do you know what happened?” I smile, remembering my first day here. “I fell into the mud.”

Amy’s mouth drops open and I continue. “I fell into the mud and people laughed at me. But you know what happened then? Nothing. It was okay to fall. It was even funny, can you imagine, all covered in mud?”

Amy lets out a little giggle.

“And after that I tried more things. And I got better. But most of all I had lots of fun and I wasn’t scared anymore. If I hold your hand, would you like to try one of the challenges?”

After a moment I get a little nod and I let out a big smile and give Amy a hug. We go over to a smaller version of the logs that we had put in for the younger kids. She takes her time and I hold her hand the whole way. I don’t mind how long it takes. This is the time and attention these kids need. When Amy makes it over the logs and I see her happy smile, it is the best reward there is.

“Hey there Miss. Ally.” I look up to see Sawyer walking over. His slow sexy smile still gives me stomach flips but it is the crowd of kids following him around that warms my heart.

“These kids want to know if I can beat you on the rock climbing wall. Are you up for the challenge?”

“As long as you already lose?”

Sawyer gives me a wink and we get in position while the kids count us down. It’s not much of a challenge. The rock climbing wall has become one of my favorite things to do and I know it better than anybody at the camp.

I beat Sawyer to the top and do a little booty dance to show off that I won, while the kids below clap and cheer. Once firmly back on the ground two young girls run up to me.

“You’re the coolest, Miss. Ally. We want to be just like you when we grow up.”

With big smiles they skip off and I take in a deep breath of mountain air. My life is perfect now. I get to spend all my days outdoors, I help kids and love what I do, I live in an amazing house and I am in love with the hottest guy on earth. And he is in love with me. I have everything I want. And hopefully soon we will fill that big house with some kids of our own. We’ve talked about fostering and doing it the old fashioned way. Sawyer wants loads of kids so I’m sure we will have a bit of both. And we will make sure that everyone of our kids know they are loved and they will never feel worthless, or neglected, or forgotten. Just like we strive to do for the kids who come to the camp.

At that moment a gust of wind blows over me. My magical mountain wind. I look over to Sawyer and he gives me his special smile. A smile that promises that later we will take a ride on his bike further up the mountain. Our sex is always more wild when we are out doors. He loves seeing me under the moonlight and I feel like a goddess in his arms. But most of all I feel loved.
