Damn, my new neighbor is a fierce little thing.

Not bothering to turn on the lights, I chuck my bag on the floor and make my way over to the couch. Plopping down onto the soft cushions, I grab the eye mask behind me on the side table and cover my face. My temples are pounding, and I can feel a migraine coming on.

It’s like my body knows it’s time to transition between pre and regular seasons, so it’s not uncommon for me to have an episode this time of the year. I think not being home, in my own space, for weeks at a time increases my migraines.

This year, I didn’t stay with Cam and Talia during spring training.

Their place was filled with Cam’s family and wedding stuff, which left me to find a new place to crash for the season.

It all worked out. My sister got hitched in a beautiful cliff-side wedding, and I crashed with the single guys in my crew.

Sharing a house with Lance, Reed, and Blake was cool, but it wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be. Maybe I’m getting too old for roommates. I should invest in a piece of property for myself.

The sound of a distant patio door slamming shut captures my attention, leading me to recall the interaction with my new neighbor.

Savannah.

The name suits her. She’s even more gorgeous up close than she was from afar. I couldn’t help noticing how her amber eyes had flecks of orange and yellow that glowed like cat eyes when she glared at me.

And, fuck me, her curves were made for grabbing. A plump ass and full tits are my fucking favorite features on a woman.

Like fucking catnip.

I’m a rough lover, and I like the women I sleep with to have some meat on their bones. I need to know their bodies can handle me. I’m generally an ass man, but that doesn’t mean I discriminate. I’ve fucked women of all different body types. I just have a preference. Ass and tits.

And Savannah? She has both in spades.

When Talia said she wanted her friend to move in, I didn’t know it would be the woman from the parking lot. I haven’t decided if it’s a good or bad thing, since I want to fuck her.

My cock gets hard thinking about Savannah’s round ass and her thick lips as she gave me sass in the elevator. I’m not usually into chicks with little bratty attitudes, but there’s a first for everything.

I’d love to show her who was in charge. Bend her over my knee, spank her pussy until she was sopping wet, then tie her to my bed and fuck her until she passed out from all the orgasms I’d give her.

I must have dozed off to my dirty thoughts of a submissive Savannah because I’m jolted awake at the sound of the smoke alarm going off in the apartment next door.

It’s dark in the living room when I glance at the time on the microwave. Ten. I’ve been asleep for a few hours, and I can still sense the dull ache of my headache lingering at the base of my skull.

The alarm continues to blare.

What the fuck is she doing?

I force myself to get up off the couch and check on Savannah. The hall smells as if something is burning, but thankfully I don’t see smoke.

As I go to knock on her door, I can hear the sounds of pots and pans clattering to the floor, and Savannah cursing from the other side.

A zing I’ve never felt before rushes through me, and the urge to scan my finger on the thumb lock washes over me. I rein in the unexpected feeling and bang on the door instead.

“You okay in there?” I shout.

It takes only a few seconds before the door swings open, and a cloud of smoke billows out. Savannah coughs, waving her hand in her face. “I’m sorry. I fell asleep and forgot about the oven.”

I push past her and rush to the kitchen to find the oven propped open, and whatever she was trying to cook is on fire.

I reach under the sink for the fire extinguisher I know is under there and pull the pin.

Pointing the hose at the fire, I squeeze the handle to discharge the extinguishing agent and sweep the nozzle over the fire, putting out the flame.

“What the hell? Were you trying to burn down the building?” I shout over the deafening sound of the fire alarm.

She places her hands on her hips and scowls at me before shouting back. “Don’t yell at me. It was an accident.”

“Accident my ass. Who falls asleep with the oven on? Aren’t you a doctor?” I sound like such an asshole, but I can’t help barking at her. She could have been seriously hurt.

“No need to be rude. I pulled a double shift and haven’t slept in over 48 hours.”

I’m not unfamiliar with being exhausted, but putting something in the oven when you’re too tired to pay attention is a poor excuse for almost burning down a kitchen. She should know better. Even though I’m pissed at her for being reckless, I’m glad the fire wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

I roll my eyes at her. “Make yourself useful and open the patio door.”

“Watch it, baseball boy. You do not get to bark orders at me.” She wags her pretty little finger at me, and the insolent tone in her voice perks my dick up. Unfortunately, it’s not enough to overcome my irritation from my headache and the high-pitched sound of the fire alarm.

A sharp pain gets me behind the eyes, and fuck… I want to get the fuck home.

“Fine. Die from smoke inhalation,” I snap at her, waving my arms around at the smoke lingering in the air.

She growls and gives me the finger, making my cock even harder, but does what I ask.

I watch her ass sway as she waltzes through the living room and opens the glass door that leads to the patio. With a whoosh, it does what I wanted it to do and sucks the smoke out of the room and into the night.

With most of the acrid smoke gone, I can smell Savannah’s sunshine scent. It’s all flowery and sweet, and a little fruity. It makes my mouth water and my cock hard.

What the fuck?

Grabbing a pillow off the couch, I fan the overhead alarm, helping to get rid of the acrid air, until it stops beeping.

“Thank you,” Savannah grits like it pains her to say the words.

She’s prickly, and I find her attitude beyond interesting. More than interesting. Her anger strangely turns me the fuck on.

I don’t know what that’s about, but I’m definitely intrigued. I’ve never met a woman like her before. Usually, women are interested in me for two reasons: to sleep with a baseball player or marry a baseball player.

I don’t get either of those vibes from Savannah.

I’d be a liar if I said the former wasn’t a little disappointing. Yeah, I really need to get out of here and get away from this line of thinking…and Savannah.

“You’re welcome.” I throw the pillow onto the sofa and look around her apartment. It feels a little like mine. Sparsely decorated and simple.

A fluffy gray sectional sits in her living room. It looks like a comfy-as-hell cloud covered in varying shades of blue pillows and blankets. No wonder she fell asleep.

There are only two things hanging on the wall. A cool-as-fuck painting of a blue butterfly and a small flat-screen TV. I watch a group of women in thongs take turns sliding down a fire pole while a group of men dressed in cheesy-as-fuck firefighter costumes cheer them on.

“What the fuck is that?”

Savannah rushes to the remote and turns off the television. “Ignore that. It’s just a silly dating show.”

I make a face at her. Of course, I know the show. I grew up in a house full of women who love dating shows. My cousins have an entire chat group dedicated to watching this show. I also know these are last season’s episodes, but I keep that to myself.

“I’m not talking about Amor Island. I’m talking about the TV. That has got to be the smallest fucking flat screen I’ve ever seen.”

“Hey, don’t insult my TV.”

“That is not a TV. That’s like the tiniest TV and a tablet had a baby.” I point to her flat screen. “You could do better.”

“If you’re done insulting me and my TV, you can go now.”

Getting out of here sounds like a great idea. I rub my temples and sigh. “Promise not to start any more fires?”

“I already told you it was an accident. No need to be an ass about it.”

My eye twitches. I can already tell this woman is going to drive me crazy.

“Make sure you tell the front desk to call maintenance to clean this up.” I don’t wait for whatever sassy comeback she has and exit her apartment.

Damn if I’ll let her have the last word.

After stripping out of my clothes, I wash my face, place a cool pack on my neck, and climb into bed.

Worried that Savannah is too stubborn to make the call, I email the maintenance team myself, informing them about the situation. I ask them to schedule a time to go clean Savannah’s kitchen and replace her fire extinguisher. With her cooking skills, it looks like she’s going to need it.

I toss and turn as visions of angry amber eyes float through my head until I finally pass out.
