Chapter 30

CHAPTER THIRTY

Gideon

The sound of the door to the holding cell sliding open was music to my ears. Mari and Charles stood there.

“You’re free to go.” He was noticeably relieved he was able to make it happen.

“Thank fuck.” I hurried out of the cell, Danny, Alex, and Toni right behind me.

“Judge Grande said he appreciates your donation to his wife’s charity.” Charles grinned at me. “It was the only way he was assisting you on this release.”

“Fine, fine. Just let me know how much and where, and I’ll deal with it. But I need to get to Penn right fucking now.” I looked at Mari. “You made the call?”

“Yes, Jeff told me to tell you they were going down to the marina. I didn’t hear more than that.”

“Danny, call. Alex, car. Toni, get our shit.”

“Asking you to stay out of trouble is pointless, isn’t it?” Charles huffed.

I patted his shoulder. “Thanks for your help; go home and enjoy the rest of the day.”

“It’s ten at night, Gideon.”

I shrugged and walked toward the front of the station, where Toni was gathering our belongings. “Have a good night’s sleep.”

“Don’t need me, Gideon.” Briefcase in hand, Charles left the station.

I grabbed my things from Toni and when I stepped outside, Alex had the SUV idling by the curb. Danny and Toni rushed to the other SUV, and then the four of us drove in the direction of the marina.

“It’s forty minutes from here,” Alex informed me.

I called Jeff, who answered after one ring. “Boss.”

“I’m out. Alex, Danny, Toni, and I are on the way to the marina. What do you know?”

“I have a team of ten heading there, according to the dockhand I spoke with five minutes ago, Lorcan’s yacht is still there.”

“It needs to stay there.”

“I’ll have them there in five. More incoming, but they were farther away. Dockhand said Lorcan had numbers.”

“Where the fuck is he getting these men?”

“Other mercs?” Alex offered.

“Jeff, we’ll be there soon. Anything changes, call. How’s my family?”

“More men were dispatched. It’s all quiet there.”

“Good.” I disconnected and stared at my phone.

Penn’s text messages and location. He’d better be alive—not that it would save Lorcan, but the thought of losing Penn was an ache I didn’t want to experience.

The echo of Ella’s death was always there; I didn’t want to feel that kind of blow ever again.

It was almost eleven by the time we reached the marina. Jeff was able to get the dock number of Lorcan’s yacht. There were fifteen of my guys, nineteen if you counted Danny, Toni, Alex, and myself—which I absolutely was.

Jeff was a point of contact for everyone at the marina and the men guarding my family, so he wasn’t here. If anything went wrong here, he was instructed to take care of my family.

We met up with the rest of the crew, Lorcan’s yacht in sight. “How many?” I asked Luke.

“I counted five on the dock, four on deck. No way of knowing internally how many there are.”

“I want silencers on. We take the ones we see out before getting on board.”

“Yes, Boss.” He got the word out to the others.

Orchestrating this had to be perfect. If one of Lorcan’s men got a shot off, it would alert them and we’d lose the element of surprise, and right now that was the only way I was getting Penn out of this.

“On my count,” I whispered. Luke was in contact with everyone via his phone. “Move out.”

My men advanced in waves. The ones leading the charge would take out the guards on the dock, and the second group would take out the ones on the deck. None of them could miss a shot; it had to be precise, and fast.

Danny and Alex stayed beside me, bringing in the rear. I had to get to Penn, and there was no way I could do that if I was dead.

My men executed everything perfectly. Like dominos, each one of Lorcan’s guys fell with a muffled thud.

Lukas gestured the all-clear and Danny, Alex, and I silently rushed closer to where every one of my men was waiting for me.

“Four in front,” Alex ordered. He looked over at me. “Sir, you can’t go in there without safety.”

“Wasn’t planning on it.” I patted his arm. “Let’s get Penn.”

The yacht wasn’t originally Lorcan’s; I was familiar with this boat. It used to be Callan’s, and I’d actually been on it once. It had been during a truce talk. The Lady Midnight had been his baby, and Lorcan kept it exactly how Callan had left it.

Three more of Lorcan’s men went down before there was a lull. “He likely has Penn below deck.” I motioned toward the stairs.

Three men carefully descended, the silence jarring. I followed only to find my guys staring at a locked steel door.

“Can’t get in,” Mozz said. “Keypad, no card.”

I turned to Toni. “Check the dead, see if there are keycards on them.”

“On it.”

In the corner there was a camera, and a red light blinked as the lens pointed directly at me. Lorcan was behind that steel, and I knew in my heart that Penn was too. It was weird, the pull I felt in my chest.

“You gonna let me in, Little Anders? I’ve taken out all your men, and you’ve got nowhere to go.

” Taking in the camera, I could tell based on the model that it transferred sound, so I knew he could hear me.

“You better hope not a hair on Penn’s head has been damaged.

He better be flawless or I promise you’ll feel such immense pain, you’ll beg to die… and you will die, Lorcan.”

I glanced over my shoulder for Toni, but he hadn’t returned yet.

“You’re smarter than your brother—I’ll give you that, but neither of you is smarter than me.

I’ll admit you had me on the line a few times…

impressive, but this was how it was always going to end.

You dead, me victorious, and the Anders name forgotten. ”

A sound behind me proved to be Toni. “Got it. We also found some staff and a couple of women hanging around. Gabe and a few others have rounded them all up.”

“Perfect.” I plucked the card from his hand and waggled it at the camera. “I’m coming in, Lorcan. Make your peace with whatever God you pray to, because you’re not leaving this boat alive.”

I slipped the card into the slot. Danny and Alex had guns raised in case we were attacked, which was highly likely.

The light turned green, and the sound of a lock disengaging brought a smile to my face. “On my mark.”

I pulled the card out, stuck it into my pocket, and readied my pistol. “When I say open, Toni, do it fast.”

He gripped the handle, I looked at him, took a breath, and nodded. The door opened, and I was ready to bring Penn home and Lorcan to hell.
