Chapter 20 #2
"Eat. Don't let me stop you. I wanted to discuss something with you though. I talked to Rowland, and he said Kendra and another bounty hunter were looking for Billy and his stepdad, Younger. So I guess that's you, Grayson."
"Yeah, we captured Billy for a second time," Kendra said, then took another bite of her pie. "Hopefully, the judge won't post bail again."
"Oh, good that he has been captured again. Can someone of the sleuth talk to the judge in the case and ensure he doesn't get released again?" Blue asked.
"Rowland will try to persuade him, since Billy removed his ankle monitor and went into hiding," Kendra said.
"He needs to be terminated," Blue growled.
"I agree," Grayson said. "He and Younger and his wife, since she's obstructing justice and helping them to evade capture. These guys are a real danger to the young ladies who are in the area, and they need to be incarcerated for it. Forever."
"I agree," Kendra said. "So what happened to Eliza?"
"She was on the internet, talking to this kid, though we weren't sure if he was really a teen, or someone just posing as one.
He set up a date with her, and she was going to go, but she told her girlfriend about it.
Thankfully, her girlfriend told me about it.
I stopped her from going and spoke with Rowland.
I figured nothing would come of it because they hadn't actually met, and it could have been legit.
But then he told me Billy's stepdad had grabbed another bear shifter's sister. So I was glad I talked to him."
"Maybe my sister, Ivy, could talk to Eliza, and they could share their experiences," Grayson said.
"That would be great." Blue exchanged information with them. "I'll tell my sister right away. When she hears that your sister had to escape the stepdad, I hope she'll be more careful."
"I'll text mine also."
Kendra was glad the two girls could share their experiences. Even though Ivy seemed okay, Kendra figured she was still horrified over what had happened to her.
Blue rose and moved the chair back to the empty table. "I hope to see you both again soon."
"The feeling's mutual," Grayson said, standing and shaking Blue's hand again.
"I'm so sorry about Eliza," Kendra said. "If she ever wants to talk, she can get in touch with me."
"I'll tell her." Blue knew about Kendra's loss, so he was keenly aware of how she felt about all of this.
"Oh, and if Amy didn't tell you, I just joined her PI business.”
“That’s wonderful,” Kendra said.
“So she, Cedric, and I are trying to locate the stepdad. I didn't realize Billy had been caught. Though Amy keeps reminding me that he's human and needs to go to trial."
"Yeah, it's hard to know if the two of them get out, they'll continue to do what they've been doing criminally," Grayson said.
"We'll let you know if we get anywhere with this," Kendra said.
"Thanks, same here," Blue said. "I'll let you finish your dessert."
“How did you know we were here?” Grayson sounded a bit suspicious.
“Cedric and Amy had a premonition you were here.”
Then Blue left, and they finished their pies and got a refill on the tea.
Grayson pulled something up on his phone and showed it to Kendra. “Have you ever been to Glacier National Park to participate in Whitewater Rafting and Ziplining Adventures?”
“No.” She read through the description. “Glacier Highlines aerial ropes course for half a day and then whitewater rafting for a half day?”
“Yep, and we can stay at one of the local lodges and eat there. They have a kitchen also, so we can bring in some food to cook.”
“It looks great. When do we go?”
“Let me see when I can get the lodging for and schedule the park adventure trips.” He called the lodge and asked about a room for two, then smiled. “Tomorrow?” He said to Kendra, “There are a couple of openings for lodging, and we can sign up for a full-day adventure trip.”
“Wow, sure. That would be great.”
He made the reservations for it.
She was glad Grayson wanted to do something special with him. Especially since no one knew where Younger was, and others were also looking for him. “Do we need to go back to your place to get some more clothes for you?”
“I packed enough that I should be good for a while. But I will need to move my things to your place, if you’re agreeable, and get my home ready to sell.”
“Of course.”
“My brother and Ivy will help. I guess I need to meet your boss and see if he wants to sign me on.”
“He will. We had a bounty hunter couple working with us, but they moved out of state a month ago, so it has just been me. So George worries about me on some of these cases.”
“I don’t blame him. Some of the ones I’ve had have been really hairy.” Grayson paid for their meal and drinks, and then they headed out to the car, Kendra carrying her lovely vase of flowers.
“If you’re serious about meeting the bondsman, do you want to go over there now?”
“I sure do. Let’s head over there.”
“His name is George Pinkerton.”
Grayson raised his brows.
She smiled. “Yeah, he claims he is a distant relative of Allan Pinkerton, of the PI fame of around 1850.”
She really hoped George would hire Grayson on the spot.
