Chapter Thirteen

Liam

“I just heard from my friend Aaron, and he said that the snowplows are out in full force this morning and clearing the roads. They should be coming down this road in a bit and clear this for us. The airports are still under lockdown, and no one is recommended to leave their houses yet, but if any emergencies happened, they could.”

“Did you check on your sister?” Spencer sipped his herbal tea. “Make sure her baby didn’t decide to hit the world early?”

“She left me a message earlier when we were in the shower.” I put a freshly baked blueberry muffin in front of him. “Everyone is doing well, and she said she is still big as a house and chasing after four kids who are sick of being stuck inside.”

“I bet those cubs can’t wait to get out and stretch. Is it safe to go outside?”

“It should be. We probably should wait until the plows come through, but after that, we can go play in the snow if that’s what you want.”

“Maybe.” Spencer took a bite of his breakfast and moaned, the sound going straight to my groin. “This is delicious.”

So are you.

A faint hint of honey mixed into his scent this morning and I felt my lips stretch up, realizing what that meant.

“Why are you smiling?” Spencer’s brows knit... “Are you thinking sexy thoughts again? I think I need a break after last night and this morning.”

“That’s not why I’m smiling, love.” I got off my chair and knelt in front of him. “There is a difference in your scent today.”

“Okay. so?”

“So, that means I smell the changes your body is undertaking to help nourish our child.” I laid a hand on his still-flat stomach. “I can smell our cub on you.”

“You can?” A slight smile began to bloom on my mate’s face. “And you are happy about that?”

“I am beyond happy. I don’t even know if there is a word to describe just how much I am feeling right now.” Kissing him, I grabbed his clenched hands. “But are you happy?”

“Honestly?” He unclasped his hands and intertwined them with mine. “I think I know the feeling you are describing and feel it too.”

“We are going to have a baby.”

“We are.”

I leaned in and kissed Spencer. He was making me the happiest alpha alive and we were only starting.

Spencer

“It’s so beautiful out here.” My head flung back; I watched the tiny snowflakes flutter down all around us. The storm was over, but the white fluffy stuff would still be hanging around for a few more days according to Liam. “If I lived here, I think I would be outside most of the day. Or at least setting up a desk next to the windows in the four seasons room so I could look out onto this wonderland while I worked.”

“I could make that happen.” Liam shoveled the snow near the doorways and the pathway around the house. “If you end up deciding to move out here instead of us moving to the city, I’ll set you up with a home office and let you live the dream.”

A huge part of me was tempted by that offer. Another part of me just wasn’t sure I should give up everything I had in the city. I needed to work this dilemma out soon though. I was only here for a couple more days.

Liam stepped up to me and lifted my chin with his finger. “Hey. Stop thinking so hard. I told you; we have time to figure it all out. For today, just enjoy the moment.”

“Will you shift for me?” I couldn’t wait to meet his bear. “I want to see you all furry and growly.”

“Sure.” Liam leaned in and kissed me. “I’m done shoveling anyway.”

Stepping back from me, Liam’s features started to change. His body transformed and fur sprouted from his skin. Within moments, a black bear stood where once stood a man.

I couldn’t hold back my shriek of excitement. “Oh my goddess, you are amazing.”

My mate puffed out his chest. Stepping closer to me, Liam’s bear bowed his head and leaned into my leg.

“You want me to touch you?” I hovered my hand over his body, waiting for some sort of response from him. When he brushed himself closer to me, I took that as his consent. His fur felt silky under my fingertips. “Soft.”

The bear chuffed and I felt the corners of my mouth quirk up. “Seriously, though. How are you so soft. I need to know what shampoo you use.”

Liam rubbed against me once more before backing up and sniffing the air. Out of the tree line hopped a family of white bunnies. Though they stayed far from Liam and me, they tracked along the yard until they reached the other side and re–entered the tree line.

“I’m surprised they came this close. Aren’t they afraid you’ll hunt them?”

Liam shook his head and then shifted back to human, putting his clothes back on once fully shifted. “No, they know me and besides, that was a family of shifters, not just regular bunnies. We have a code that we don’t hunt other shifters in this area.”

“You mean, some shifters hunt one another?” The thought made me queasy. I pressed a hand to my stomach. “Someone might hunt our baby one day?”

“Don’t worry, babe.” Liam stepped up and kissed me. “Those rogues are far from common, and I’ll be sure to teach our children the signs to look out for and how to defend themselves if the need ever arises.”

“Oh. Okay.” I rubbed tiny circles along my stomach. “Can we go in now? I don’t think I’m feeling well.”

“Do you want some ginger tea and honey? Nicola swears by that when she’s pregnant.”

“That sounds really good actually, thanks.” I pressed my lips to his and breathed in his earthy scent. I might not be a shifter like him, but I could still savor the natural pheromones. They only made me want to get closer to him.

Emitting a low sexy moan as I rubbed myself up against him, Liam gently pushed me back a bit. “Honey, if you keep doing that, we won’t get to the kitchen for your tea. I will strip you right here and take you in this snow.”

A shiver ran down my body. Not from the thought of the cold snow on my bare back, but with anticipation of having my mate take me in such a way. I heated up at the thought. “Okay.”

With a groan, my mate lifted me up and carried me into the house. It may not have been snow sex, but as he fucked me against the kitchen counter, I was just happy to be filled.
