Chapter 18
LAINEY
Three weeks later, Pops was home and driving Ma up the wall. He was supposed to rest, but he was a stubborn one. He and Ma were arguing in the kitchen over him going and helping Buck in the stable.
“I know where you get your contrariness from,” Beau murmured in my ear as we sat at the kitchen table with our mugs of coffee. The two of us were going to work with Buck no matter who won my parents’ argument. Buck was already at the morning chores, but we’d slept in–and had sex–before coming over.
Ma was going to win. Pops knew it but it was clear he had to try and put his foot down.
Yeah, I was just like him.
Since Beau slipped a ring on my finger and Pops was discharged from the hospital, we’d gone to Bozeman and emptied out Beau’s apartment. He hadn’t been kidding when he said he didn’t have much in the place. It had taken only one trip in his pickup to move him in with me.
Since then, it’d been… amazing.
I wasn’t talking about the sex, which was insane. If anal was pushing boundaries, then we kept right on pushing them after that. I blushed just thinking about what we’d done the night before.
The front door slammed shut and Colt shouted, “I can hear you fighting from my truck.”
Ma and Pops went silent and I couldn’t help but grin.
Colt came into the kitchen, saw us at the table. “Thought you two would be here.”
“What’s up?”
“Still no sign of Rod Severs.”
Turned out, he hadn’t been at the Trout pool with those three guys. One was Chase Trout, the other two friends of his. Neither were Rod.
Since then, Colt had been running down leads on where the guy might be. Taylor hadn’t seen him.
“He’s had a BOLO out on him ever since the rodeo, but he’s disappeared. I doubt he’s in Devil’s Ditch. Not too many places to hide. The Missoula and Anaconda police know to be on the lookout.”
“So he gets away with it? Hurting Pops, drugging Junior, taking Taylor’s money?”
Colt looked about as happy about this as I felt.
“For now,” Pops said. “I have a feeling he’ll pop back up one of these days. Then Colt will get him.”
Colt nodded.
I looked to Beau. “Colt will get him,” he agreed. “In the meantime, I’m marrying your ass.”
My mouth dropped open when he winked. Then I smiled, leaned and kissed him.
“You sure are,” I whispered. “And soon. ‘Cause I think I might be having your baby.”
And with that, I made Beau speechless. For once.
Ready for more Cowboys of Devil’s Ditch?
