Epilogue

Four years later

Aiden was true to his word. He's been making it up to me a hell of a lot over the last few years.

He made it up to me a hell of a lot two years ago, when we got married.

Addison made the prettiest little bridesmaid in the world, and it was that day that she asked him if it was okay if she called him 'Daddy Aiden'.

He looked like he was so proud he was going to burst, and I was too.

We were becoming a family, and it was a family that included the four of us.

Sylvie gave me away, and we all moved into Aiden's massive house in Chelsea.

Aiden grabbed my hand as we looked at the screen. "Everything is looking very good," the doctor told us. "Oh..."

Aiden's grip on my hand tightened. "What? Oh, God. What's wrong."

The doctor laughed. "Mr Munroe, there's nothing to worry about. Nothing's wrong. It's just that..." He pointed to something on the screen. "...see that?"

We both screwed up our faces and peered at the screen, trying to make out what he was pointing at.

"That would be baby number two."

My heart stopped.

"Twins?" Emma, our surrogate, grinned.

The doctor nodded. "Two babies. Everything is looking good, and they are far enough apart in there that I would guess that they are going to be non-identical. Looked like two out of the four embryos have implanted."

Tears were streaming down my husband's face when I looked at him. "One from each of us."

I shook my head with a smile. "You don't know that."

The doctor chuckled. "It's possible. You might just as easily have two from one of you, we did insert four."

Aiden shook his head. "No. I know it's one from each of us."

I laughed at his optimism. We had four donor eggs. Two of them were fertilised with Aiden's sperm, and two of them were fertilised with mine. He looked at me intently, and he reached for Emma's hand. "Thank you." He grinned. "And thank you," he said, looking at me, and kissing me softly.

The enormity of the situation hit me. "We're going to have two babies. Double the sleepless nights, double the dirty nappies." Oh, shit.

Nothing was going to dull Aiden's enthusiasm. "I know! Isn't it fantastic!" Emma and the doctor laughed at him, and I groaned.

When we arrived home, Addison came running to the door. "Did you see the baby?"

Aiden picked her up and threw her over his shoulder. "Where's Nanna?" He laughed.

She appeared around the corner from the kitchen. "Well?" she asked, expectation on her face.

"Sit. We have a picture to show you." I smiled.

Sylvie and Addison sat on the sofa and looked at us. Aiden gave me a sideward glance with a grin.

"I don't want you to overreact," Aiden told them both.

"Is there something wrong?" Sylvie asked.

I shook my head. "Nothing like that."

Addison looked at us both. Sylvie looked at us both.

"Oh, for fuck’s sake, spit it out!" she exclaimed.

Aiden handed her the image from the ultrasound scan. "It's twins. There are two babies!" He beamed.

Addison started jumping up and down.

Sylvie was actually speechless; something I'm not sure I'd ever seen before.

"Are you happy for us?" Aiden asked her.

Tears slid down her face and she nodded. She stood and pulled Aiden and I tight against her. "I've never been so proud of my boys."

Tears fell from my face and Aiden's as Sylvie and Addison hugged us tight.

Our family was about to grow, and I couldn't wait to see what the future held for us.

I would never have imagined when I walked into Aiden's office that morning that it would end up like this, but I wouldn't have had it any other way.

This was how things were meant to be, and I looked forward to my forever with Aiden and our family.

The End.
