Bonus Chapter

Taylor
“Lookslike you have the same idea that I do?” I spin around to face Connor, Jensen’s friend and partner. I’ve just exited the liquor store, holding two bottles of tequila and a bag of limes.
“I have a friend at home that’s been shamed by some married prick so I figure why not get her hammered and maybe even laid in the process.” I shrug as if it”s no big deal. As if Brynn would actually participate in such plans. She’s pissed right now, like really pissed.
When Brynnlee is angry she does two things, drink and work nonstop. Drowning her troubles in the job and booze.
“That’s harsh,” Connor says as he crosses his arms over his chest and widens his stance. I try not to focus on his bulging biceps and corded forearms, but it”s difficult. The man is yummy, I’ll give him that.
He is the enemy. Or he’s friends with the enemy, same thing!
“So your asshole friend isn’t married and neglected to share that bit of information with my best friends before he climbed into her bed?”
“Married, yes, happily, hardly.”
“Unhappily married doesn’t give anyone the right to be a lying sleaze,” I challenge him, staring him down and waiting for him to argue. Instead a smile stretches over his lips.
“You are a spitfire.” He chuckles.
“Does that work for you? Like I’m supposed to laugh and giggle and be all, yes I am you handsome detective.”
“So you think I’m handsome?”
“You’re a sleaze too,” I counter.
“I’m honest but for the record, Jensen has been trying to divorce his cheating wife for more than a year. He isn’t the one sleeping around, she is and has been probably before they said I do. Brynn is the first woman he’s even kissed since he moved out and left the bitch in his house with all his things.”
Connor’s eyes are so green, it’s hard not to stare.
“Jensen is a good guy, he’s one of the best I know. He’s loyal and he’s respectful, he’d never cheat. He’s taken care of Chrissy even when he shouldn’t have, the woman is like a leech.”
So many thoughts are running through my mind, but unfortunately when Connor smiles, those thoughts are lost.
“Do you want to see if you can outdrink me?” He points to the tequila I’m holding. “I’ll even cut the limes.”
“You think I’m that easy do ya?”
“No, what I do think is that you are like me.” I arch my brow at him and wait for his explanation. “I think you are the type that doesn’t like complications. You don’t like rules and you despise the labels people insist placing on things. I think that you prefer to have fun without ties, you are confident and secure enough with yourself to ignore what people think. I think you know what you want and you’re not afraid to take it.”
“You get all that from me standing here holding tequila and limes?” I try not to smile but unfortunately I think in his presence it”s impossible.
“No, I got that when you walked into that hotel and gave shit to Gibbs for what I assume was hurting Brynn at some point. You didn’t give a shit what anyone thought, you stormed in and went straight for the jugular.”
“I’m not much for dragging this out.”
He grins and nods his head.
“You should know though, I can drink tequila like it”s no one”s business.”
What am I saying?
“Looks like tonight could get interesting.” He holds out his hand for me to walk past him. I do, and as I walk toward my car I can’t help but wonder if this is a disaster in the making. He could get attached, because I’m pretty awesome.
Smiling to myself, opening my car door, I glance back over my shoulder.
This man has no idea what he is getting himself into, I’m one of a kind!
