Chapter 30
Ipressed my ear against the door, listening to Eva padding around the room, itching to go inside.
She’d been so distracted she hadn’t seen me watching her as I followed her through the courtyard.
It took willpower I didn’t know I had to keep my distance.
From the moment we figured out which room she was staying in a few hours ago, it’d been hard to stay away.
If Dorian hadn’t slid The Bungalow rep a hundred-dollar bill to place us next to her room, we probably wouldn’t have been able to keep our distance.
Dorian and Rafe kept up their arguing, and it was annoying. We should go in there to kiss her and touch her.
We were wasting time waiting around. We had to grab her now and never let her go. She would leave us if we let more time pass.
Panic squeezed my throat closed.
My pack-brothers grunted.
“Fuck, that hurts,” Dorian hissed and dropped onto the edge of the bed. He was feeling the full force of my agony, and I did nothing to block it from them. They had to know I was desperate.
“Calm down, Cade, we have her feet away from us.” Rafe, always the voice of reason. As if he wasn’t just as desperate for her. “Get away from the door.”
I ignored him, straining to hear her on the other side.
None of their comments touched me. My Omega was gone, and I needed her back. She’d said she’d forgiven me, but she had been playing me. That brilliant woman. My brilliant woman.
Pinpricks spread across my hands. The numbness would take me over and refuse to let go, turning me into a husk of a man until I had her back.
“Let’s just take her back home,” Rafe said, continuing his argument with Dorian. They’d been debating how to continue with the situation, and we were reaching no resolution.
“And have an unhappy Omega?” Dorian retorted.
I didn’t want an unhappy Omega. But leaving her behind was out of the question. I curled my hand into a fist, my blunt nails scraping against the door.
What could we do—
I fell forward, landing on the carpet elbows first. Eva gawked down at me, dressed in a fluffy yellow robe.
Having her so close after days without her was like being in the presence of the sun. Her caramel scent tickled my nose, and I groaned, my cock stiffening so much that it hurt.
“Mierda,” she bit out, and the tension on her face told me she was about to force me out.
“Wait,” I blurted, pushing to my hands and knees to inch forward so I was at her feet and gripping the hem of her robe. She gasped, trying to back away, but I tightened my grip until she had to stop. The sash of the robe loosened, and she grabbed it, tying it again. “Please.”
Eva’s eyes widened at me. “How did you all find me?”
Her eyes moved side to side, and panic was splashed on her face. She looked over my shoulder, into the bedroom, and her eyes widened even more.
“Eva,” I snapped, wanting her attention back on me. She whipped her head back down. I sucked in her caramel scent. “Don’t leave me. I-I swear . . .” My voice broke. She was stiffening. Was it to push us away? I clasped my hands together and laced my fingers. “Please, Eva.”
She stiffened, blinking quickly as if she couldn’t make sense of my words.
“Please, Eva. I’m sorry.”
She staggered back, and I followed her on my knees, dragging myself. I didn’t care. I just wanted her to hold me.
Her wild eyes returned over my shoulder.
“No. No. No!” she shouted. Eva gripped the front of my shirt and yanked. I didn’t fight her hold. I got to my feet, bent over so she could keep hold of my shirt. She shoved me and I stumbled back, blissful that she’d touched me. I couldn’t stop my smile, but it seemed to piss her off.
“If you leave that room, Eva De La Cruz, you won’t like the consequences,” Dorian bit out. Eva slammed the door shut, and the doorknob clicked from her locking it.
“Why did you shout at her?” I growled, getting in Dorian’s face. He curled his lip at me.
“Get out of my fucking face, Cade, I’m on fucking edge.”
A hand fell on my shoulder. “Go for a run,” Rafe ordered.
“Fuck off,” I spat and yanked away, returning to the door to plop on my ass next to the door. “I’ll be right here, Eva!” I shouted against the door. Seeing her fueled me with life. The darkness creeping over my thoughts had receded after seeing her.
I glared at my pack-brothers. This was the most we’ve fought since . . . ever.
