Chapter 21 Dallas

DALLAS

I startle awake when Kay and Kendra get back home. It’s much later than I thought they’d be on a Thursday night. The pair look dead on their feet, dragging a wagon behind them. I guess they didn’t want to lug the tails and backpacks back up. I wouldn’t want to.

Kay gives me a soft smile, one that makes my heart flutter, even though I know there’s something murderous inside him. It’s bizarre how the juxtaposition of his sweetness and his darker side feels like a thrilling secret, one that I’ve come to accept as part of who he is.

“Hey, sleepyhead,” he says, setting the wagon down with a soft thud.

“Everything okay?” I ask.

Kendra nods, running a hand through her damp hair. “Yeah, just the usual maintenance after a big show. You know how it is.”

“Yeah, I get it,” I reply, glancing at the wagon filled with their costumes. The vibrant colors of their tails peek through, and I can almost see them swimming in the water, bringing joy to the kids at the aquarium.

Kay moves closer. “You should’ve seen the kids’ faces today. They were so excited. It was magical.”

I can’t help but smile at his enthusiasm. “I’m sure you both made quite an impression.”

Kendra stifles a yawn. Exhaustion is written all over her face. “I think I’m going to crash as soon as I shower. Tomorrow’s another busy day.”

“Same here,” Kay says, his voice softening as he stretches his arms overhead. “But I’d love to take a shower with you first, if you’re up for it?”

“Of course,” I say. A rush of heat stirs my cock. There’s something so intimate about sharing those moments together, even if I know we’re both probably too tired to do anything intimate beyond the shower itself.

Kay drops beside me, and we let Kendra take her shower first. Kay assures me she won’t use all the hot water, but I don’t care.

Kendra’s in and out in no time and keeps the water running. The steam from the hot water greets us as we step inside, filling the room with a cozy haze. I step into the shower and breathe in the steam.

Kay sidles up next to me, brushing his shoulder against mine. “You’re quiet tonight,” he says, his gaze searching mine.

I shrug, trying to shake off the fatigue lingering in my bones. “Just tired, I guess. It’s been a long week, and I think I’m still processing everything that’s happened already.”

“Understandable,” Kay says. Stepping under the spray, water cascades down his back as he gives me a soft smile. “I’ll keep you safe.”

I nod, feeling my heart race. There’s a weight to his words, a promise buried beneath the surface. “I know.”

As we stand together under the warm water, the gentle rhythm of the droplets creates a peaceful cocoon around us.

We wash off the day’s grime, the tension from our lives momentarily forgotten as we enjoy this simple, sweet intimacy.

Kay looks up at me through the water. I want to reach out, to pull him closer and kiss him deeply, but the exhaustion clinging to me makes me hesitate.

Instead, we fall into a comfortable silence, allowing the water to wash over us. I let the warmth seep into my bones while stealing glances at Kay and his serene expression, the way the water glistens on his skin, the gentle curve of his lips as he lathers up his hair.

As I scrub my own hair, I can feel Kay’s presence beside me.He’s a comforting anchor. I wish we could linger in this moment forever, but the reality of the world outside our little bubble looms.

After rinsing off, we step out of the shower, wrapping ourselves in soft towels. The bathroom is filled with steam, and I feel as if we’re in our own little world, separated from everything outside.

As we dry off, the fatigue creeps back in, my body yearning for rest. We pad over to Kay’s bedroom.

I rummage through my duffle bag for clean underwear. Kay pulls on his pajamas, a silky pink ensemble.

“Wanna just crash?” I suggest, stifling a yawn of my own.

“Yes, unfortunately,” Kay says, stifling his own yawn in response. “But we’re cuddling. I need to feel you close.”

I can’t help but smile at that. We climb into bed. The sheets are cool after the warm shower. I wrap my arms around him, pulling him close, feeling the warmth radiating from his body.

I rest my chin on his shoulder. “I’m just happy to be here with you.”

“Same,” he whispers. His breath warms my skin. “But you have permission to wake me up with your cock.”

And there’s the Kay I adore. “I’ll think about it.”

I can practically see him pout. Of course, I’ll wake him with my dick. He’s mentioned it enough that I plan on trying it at least once.

The tension from the week slowly fades away, replaced by the comfort of his presence.

I know his world is chaotic and more dangerous than I’ll ever know.

But this little pocket of peace right before sleep is something to strive for.

I kiss the back of his head and he hums as he wiggles in my hold.

Sweet, sleepy Kay. I’ll figure out if I should be terrified of him another day. Right now, I just want to hold him.
