Chapter Twenty-Seven #2

“That’s it. Take it. Take me. My cock. My fingers. My breath. My heart. My soul. All of it. I’m yours, Nova,” I said against her breast. I couldn’t stop the way my heart seemed to swell in time with my building release, the words pouring out of me. “I love you.”

She cried out again, this time moving her hands to my face and pulling my lips off her chest and to hers. We kissed like we might die if we didn’t. Like our lives—the entire world—depended on it. “I’m so close, Az. Fuck. Cum with me—inside of me. Fill me up. Please, stars, give me it.”

Well, shit.

We climaxed in sync, each other’s names slipping out of our mouths as we both shook and shivered around each other.

I poured into her, the feeling of her release mixing with mine something transcending.

Her tongue wrapped around my own, her arms securing around my neck and forcing me to stay inside of her as wave after wave of pleasure racked through us.

For that brief piece of eternity, Nova and I were one.

Neither of us ended or began, it was only us.

As tired as she looked, Nova must have still had some energy, because she surprised me by flipping us, sitting up after with a wide smile.

The sight of her on top of me was something otherworldly.

But when she lay back down on my chest, my cock slowly softening inside of her, I couldn’t possibly imagine a world as good as this one.

Digging my fingers into her hair, I held onto her for dear life.

I closed my eyes and let myself picture the war being over.

Us returning to our cottage, maybe a sign added that read “Snake Lodge” just for her amusement.

The village being rebuilt. The world healing.

The two of us smiling. We’d grow older here.

Nova reading and brewing. Me cooking or whittling or shopping for new clothes and jewelry.

Anything that I—we—wanted. Because we’d be allowed those simple joys.

At night we’d make love. Or maybe in the mornings.

Perhaps even midday too. Time wouldn’t matter when we had so much of it.

“I told you, we’re meant to be,” I whispered, placing a kiss to the top of her head. And then her weight suddenly left me. I opened my eyes, jolting up, my hands flying out to catch her. Too late. She was already standing up and backing away.

No. No, no, no, no, no!

“Don’t you dare,” I said, rushing to stand too. She looked pained as she scrunched her nose, brows knitted together. “Don’t you fucking dare do this after we just had the most incredible sex of my life. After I just came inside of you.”

“I’m on a contraceptive! You grabbed it out of my bag for me!” Her hands went to her hips, pushing her breasts out, my cum slowly sliding down her inner thigh. She looked amazing with her hair cascading all around her, the olive tone to her skin glowing in the daylight.

“You are not going to deny your feelings after what just happened.” It was an order. A demand.

“I’m not denying anything. That was incredible, I admit it! I can compromise. We’ll have sex. Then, when the war is over, we’ll go our separate ways.” She smiled softly, as if that was a valid option. As if it wasn’t absolutely insane.

“You want to fuck me and then leave me? What am I? Your whore?” I let my hand flatten against my chest, feeling the way my heart continued to beat despite the fact she was shattering it.

“No!” Her arms rose, palms facing me as she shook her head. “It’s mutually beneficial. I mean, come on. That was amazing. I’ve never, ever had sex like that. So let’s enjoy it while we can. I admit that I was wrong before. An arrangement like this can work.”

“Arrangement?” Was she insane? How could she even suggest such a thing? “I’m in love with you. That isn’t an arrangement, that’s a commitment. I don’t want to fuck you for a few months or even years just for you to leave me when those two idiots get done fighting over our world!”

“You make it sound so awful!”

“It is awful! We’re supposed to be together for the rest of our lives!”

“No, we’re not. We were born to be the opposite of together.” Face stretching, widening with every word, she went from begging to baffled. “I’d wager we were literally put on this planet to tear each other apart!”

“Oh yeah? Ask the stars then!” I pointed to her head, daring her to ask. “See if they agree that we can’t be together!”

“No!”

“Exactly! You won’t do it because you know I’m right!”

“I won’t do it because they’re bored, childish entities with nothing better to do than stir the pot!” Nova reached up, rubbing her temples, bumps rising all across her bare skin. “You and I are too different. Regardless of who wins this war, we could never be together. The world won’t allow it!”

“Fuck the world. Fuck the stars. Fuck everything! I want you. I love you!”

“It’s not enough! Love is never enough! I know that because, if it was, my family would still be alive and I’d never have gone to Elite Academy in the first place!”

We were almost touching, our subconscious steps bringing us together like magnets. Counting her freckles to calm myself down, I thought of all I wanted to say.

I can’t separate my love and lust.

I can’t spend the rest of my life not hearing your laugh.

I can’t wake up without you drooling on my pillow.

I can’t look at a book and know you won’t be there to obsess over it.

I can’t cook a breakfast you won’t be there to eat and complain about.

I can’t say goodbye.

I can’t let you go.

I can’t exist without you anymore.

“Our love could be enough, Nova.” I pressed a hand to her cheek, sighing as she closed her eyes and leaned into my palm.

“Why can’t we have this, Az?” She gestured to the bed, pressing her hand into mine after. “I can’t just pretend that we can have more so we can feel better for a few months.”

I pulled my hand back, folding my arms over my chest. “And I can’t just pretend that only your body is enough.”

She backed away, crossing her arms too. “What are you saying?”

“I’m saying that I won’t have sex with you again unless we sort through this. I won’t take half of you, Nova. I want it all.”
