Chapter Forty-Five
Cujo
“Nothing? You’re telling me you can’t find anything on these assholes?” Cerberus, Gy, and I stand across from Fen, my mouth open in shock. In all our years together, Fen’s never shrugged and given up before.
“I’m telling you, there’s nothing. I’ve been searching for details on Pack Mordred, based on Willow’s descriptions.
I found their legal papers, but not much else.
Technically, there are three of them, even though Willow’s been consistent with six.
Their names are Malachi and Devlin, and they have a beta who goes by Bates.
Any other members must be unregistered. I have a few very grainy photographs of those three and nothing on the others.
They don’t have any digital stamps. No social media.
It’s like they’re fucking ghosts.” I have an all-consuming urge to hurl a chair into the wall.
“Okay. Then what should we do? It’s been nearly a week, and Willow has a job to get back to.
Plus, she’s going stir crazy—I’m starting to see murder in her eyes.
” Gy’s concerns are legit. Even though we’ve been trying to keep Willow busy with self-defense lessons and all the dick she could ever want, our tiny omega is restless. And she misses her friends.
Fenrir shrugs uselessly.
“Woman like that, can’t keep her on lockdown forever. Put someone on your ol’ lady any time she leaves.” I run my fingers through my hair, considering Cerberus’ plan. Willow won’t like having a babysitter, but until we find those responsible for hurting her, keeping her safe is my priority.
Worry twists in my gut at the idea of her leaving Hellbent property, but my president is right.
Keeping her cooped up here is going to end up leading to bloodshed.
There’s only so much time she can spend with the dogs before losing her mind.
As much as Gy and I love her, we also have responsibilities that call us away.
She’s not a prisoner. We need to find a workable alternative to let her live life.
Seeking her within me, the bond in my chest hums happily. I assume she is working with Bigfoot again. The giant beast has come a long way in a short span of time. He’s been able to hang with us in the house more and more, and he hasn’t ripped off any body parts yet.
“That sounds like a good idea. Mind if we use Lassie?” Gy mentions Puppy by his new road name—we patched him in the other day.
“All yours. Know those two get on well.”
A growl builds in my throat. Their friendship pisses me off to no end. Mine.
Discussion over, Cerberus taps his knuckles on the desk and makes his way out the door, throwing a wave over his shoulder. My eyes turn back to my best friend.
“I promise I’ll keep looking. But right now, everything is so damn quiet that it’s eerie.” Fenrir says with disgust, and I couldn’t agree more. “Those fuckin’ Black Plagues have disappeared, too.”
The calm before the storm?
