Chapter 28

“You know, Piper, you really could have come to me with this.” Cassie turns an eye on Piper.

“I didn’t want them to do anything to Cash.” She shies away from the confrontation.

Cassie clasps her hands over her desk and leans toward Piper. “And who do you think has the power to make them keep their mouths shut?”

“Uhh…” Piper stammers.

“That’s right, me.” Her eyes flit to mine. “You both should have come to me.”

I throw my hands up in defense. “Hey, I didn’t know about this until last night. I came to you immediately.”

“Way to throw me under the bus,” Piper mutters.

“Hey.” I grab her hand. “I want them to go away as much as you do, Princess. Okay?”

I kiss her palm, and Cassie’s eyes are bugging out of her head when I look at her again.

“You know you don’t have to pretend when you’re with me, right?”

I smile at Piper. “We know. But this isn’t fake. Not anymore.”

“Wow.” Cassie throws a pen down on her desk and leans back in her chair. “Who knew my brilliant idea would work.”

“This was your plan the whole time?” Piper asks.

“I mean, I didn’t think it would last, but Cash is a changed man.”

I roll my eyes at her. “Thanks, Cassie.”

“I’m serious. I wouldn’t have picked Piper if I didn’t think you two would be good together. Maybe I should start a matchmaking business…” Cassie trails off.

“Back to the matter at hand…”

Piper wants to get down to business.

Cassie stacks the papers strewn about on her desk. “Well, we won’t have to do much in the way of Duncan.”

“Why not? Ava will still be a problem.” Piper squeezes my hand. I know she’s nervous. It’s why she broke up with me in the first place.

To protect me.

As much as I hated that she did it, I understand why.

I love her all the more for it.

“Duncan has been cut from the Black Diamonds.”

“What?” Piper and I ask in unison.

Cassie glances between the two of us. “You really didn’t see the news?”

“No. Tell us.”

“Conduct detrimental to the team.”

“What does that mean?” Piper asks.

Cassie’s smile is way too big for what she’s telling us.

“He was caught screwing the assistant coach’s wife.”

My jaw drops. “No fucking way.”

“I believe it.” Piper sits back in her chair and crosses her arms. “Duncan will screw anything with two legs.”

“Is it bad I’m glad he’s gone?” I ask.

“I’ll be cleaning up that mess for a while,” Cassie tells us. “For once, you will not be the biggest pain in my ass, Cash.”

“Glad to give you a reprieve.” I laugh.

“Maybe you could keep it up. Stay out of my hair for a while?”

I glance over at the woman sitting to my right. The woman that has stolen my heart. Her smile has my chest full to the point it could burst.

“I think I can plan on that.”

“Good. Now get out of my office. I have to release a statement on why our assistant coach and winger were let go.”

“Wait,” Piper interjects, “Coach Cooper was let go too?”

Cassie nods. “Yes. We couldn’t let him keep his position after what happened and his behavior afterward. It was a clear violation of his contract, especially when others came forward about him and his unwarranted actions against them. We’re better off without him.”

“Wow.” Piper leans back into her own seat. “I never liked him.”

“Really?” That’s news to me.

“Why not?” Cassie asks.

“He treated me like I was beneath him. Like I had no right to be in my position doing what I do.”

“I guess we’re taking out all the trash in one go,” Cassie says with a sigh. “He treated me like I was an idiot too.”

“Why did we keep him around? I mean, he was a decent coach, but kind of a dick.”

Coach Barney runs the show around here. Coach Cooper on the other hand? Well, he liked to flex his power by making us run the worst drills.

Good riddance as far as I’m concerned.

“Now, for real, get out of here.” Cassie stalks around her desk and opens her office door. “Stay on my good side, Williams.”

“You got it.” I wink at her as I follow Piper out of the office.

Piper needs to get to the physio room, and I need to hit the weight room for a light workout before our game tonight.

But after hearing the news, I need a minute with my girl.

With my Princess.

“Where are we going?”

I lead Piper down a hallway, opening a few doors until I find a supply closet that is blissfully empty.

“I can’t believe they’re gone.” I hoist Piper in my arms and push her against the wall. “We don’t have to worry about them anymore.”

Tears well in Piper’s eyes. “I never thought I’d be so glad to see someone be cut.”

I pepper her face in kisses. “Same, Princess. Same.”

Piper grabs my face in her hands and kisses me hard. She flicks her tongue into my mouth.

We fight for control. The push and pull with Piper is something I love. Something that I will never have to let go of.

Piper is squirming in my arms, arching into my touch. It has my cock growing hard.

I rip my lips from hers. “Fuck, Piper. We can’t do this right now.”

“I want you, Cash,” she whines.

“Princess, we can’t,” I say, even as I rock my hips into her. “I’ll see you tonight after the game.”

“At home.”

I growl, nipping at her jaw. “You’ll be waiting in my bed for me?”

“You better play nice with the reporters, Cash Williams. I’d hate to have to use my vibrator before you get there.”

“God damn it, Piper. How am I supposed to get a workout with a hard-on?”

Piper wiggles in my arms, sliding down my body and standing on her feet.

“Something you’ll need to figure out.”

A smug smile is on her face as she turns to open the door.

“That’s just mean.”

I tug her back against me, pushing my hard cock against her sweet little ass.

“You better be ready, Princess. I’m going to ravish you tonight.”

“Sounds like a plan.”
