Chapter 34

Thirty-Four

Harper

“I’ve got some exciting news,” Luca says as he wraps his arms around me from behind.

“Hmmm?” I ask. I can’t quite explain how tired I’ve been, maybe it’s Zeke, or it could be the fact I’m expecting.

Waking up slowly from a nap, I feel just as easily that I could drift right back to sleep and wake up in the morning.

I don’t remember being this tired when I was pregnant with Zeke, but a lot has happened this week. I blame it on the trauma. If I can just sleep through it, I’ll be fine.

So far, there haven’t been as many nightmares as I’d have expected. I had worse trouble sleeping after Santino broke into our home.

Luca’s strong hand splays across my abdomen.

We still don’t know whether it’s a boy or girl yet. I want to wait until the birth, but I haven’t discussed it with Luca yet.

There’s still time.

Plenty of time until that happens.

Lucas pressed up tight against me, and I can feel his excitement poking me. I chuckle softly and roll over to face him. “You are excited,” I murmur with a smile against my lips. My fingers slide down his hip, and he pulls me closer, tighter.

“Did you hear who stopped by?”

I shake my head against the pillow. “We had a guest? You should have woken me. Who was it?”

“Bristol’s father.”

The curiosity dies on my lips. “Oh.” That doesn’t seem nearly as exciting. I thought when he asked, it might have been my parents or his parents. I don’t know much about Bristol’s family, and I roll onto my back, tangling my legs with Luca’s, pulling him above me. “What did he want?”

“You don’t know who Bristol’s father is?”

I stare up at Luca, who is smiling brightly, his eyes shining down on me, and for the first time in days, that gloominess has vanished.

“No,” I whisper, staring up at him. “Am I supposed to?”

“Bristol Greyson,” he says and stares at me, waiting for me to connect the dots.

My eyes widen, remembering a conversation I had that feels a lifetime ago about a certain Kyler Greyson. “Her father, the owner of the Ice Dragons, showed up here? Did you get his autograph?”

Luca smiles and laughs, kissing my nose and down my jaw. “As much as I would have loved to have asked him to sign something for me, that would have seemed really inappropriate.”

“Why? Did he come here to yell at Bristol for staying over?” I quip.

She is supposed to be attending Great Falls, at least for a few more weeks until she transfers here.

Luca shakes his head, staring down at me, grinning. “He did invite her and Liam to Thanksgiving dinner, which may have been why he dropped by, or it might have been another reason.”

He shifts slightly and puts just the right delicious amount of pressure between my thighs, that I tip my head back, arching into him.

“Are you just going to tease me?” I ask, breathy, my body warm and tingly.

His hands skim over my hips, his fingers slipping into the waistband of my bottoms, grazing my stomach, my hips, his touch featherlight and setting my body ablaze.

“He invited us to dinner.”

“Oh?” My mind is in a fog. “Thanksgiving?” I rasp, trying to concentrate, yet failing miserably. Won’t his parents be upset, or mine, if we go to Thanksgiving dinner with the Greysons?

I lift his shirt, and he raises his arms, letting me remove it, tossing it across the room to the floor.

His body is glorious. My fingers slide down his chest, touching his muscles.

Fuck. How did I get so lucky?

Luca merely shakes his head. “Not Thanksgiving.”

Is this a guessing game?

I suck at games. His mouth latches onto my neck as that warmth flows through me like molten lava.

“Are you sure it’s safe?” he asks, his hand moving across my abdomen. “I don’t want to do anything that might hurt you or the baby.”

I nod. “Doctor says the little peanut is healthy.”

Luca pulls back slightly, staring down at me, perplexed. “You are not naming our baby Peanut.”

Laughing, I lean up and kiss him. “Relax. It’s just until we pick a name, but I don’t want to know the sex.”

“Well, that’s going to make things extra complicated. Like, how are we going to buy baby clothes, and what about talking to the baby before it’s born?”

I roll my eyes. “Plenty of people have babies before they know the sex.”

“Yeah, well, I’m not plenty of people,” Luca says and kisses me.

I melt into his kiss. How easily I could give in to whatever he wants. “No, I suppose you’re not,” I whisper against his mouth.

I lift my hips while his fingers deftly undress me, and he pulls back long enough to remove his pants.

“What’s the big surprise?” I ask, staring up at him. “You are full of secrets.” I playfully glare, waiting for him to spill the news.

“Kyler invited us out to dinner to discuss me joining the NHL draft.”

My mouth drops and I’m so excited for Luca, so happy for him. “That’s fantastic news!”

He nods, beaming, his mouth back on my lips, his body teasing me, his hands roaming across my breast, cupping a nipple, teasing and moving his mouth over the peak. “This is better, though,” he whispers, licking, sucking my skin. “You’re getting huge! I mean your breasts are growing.”

I snort and shove his face farther down my body. “Jerk.”

“No, that was a compliment! I meant it as a compliment,” Luca says, kissing over my stomach as his lips move between my thighs, kissing my legs farther apart.

“Sure you did,” I snort. I’m not angry with him, just ignoring his statement. Of course, my body is getting bigger, I’m growing a tiny human inside of me!

“Your boobs are huge. They’re fantastic. My favorite new feature at the moment,” he says, grinning up at me. Luca is trying desperately to get out of trouble that he’s dug himself into.

Groaning, I laugh. “Oh, I bet they are.”

They do look pretty great, one of the benefits of being pregnant.

I relax against the mattress, his hands and lips caress my thighs. He’s beaming with excitement, and I feel every bit of that high along with him. “You’re going to play professional hockey?” I ask, just as his mouth falls on my lips below. “You said yes, right?”

I don’t want him putting his dreams on hold because of this baby or his father’s business.

Fuck.

Does he do that on purpose to make me speechless?

He mumbles something unintelligible as he licks and teases my folds, making me forget how to speak.

My eyes shut, my fingers tangling in the bedsheets and then in his hair, wanting desperately to touch him, as I tremble against his lips.

I desire to be closer, tighter, his body nestled against mine.

“Luca,” I moan as the first wave crashes over me, knowing this is only the beginning for tonight.

We have a lifetime together, and already, I’m craving more.
