27. Rory
RORY
The suit that Daddy picked out for me is perfect.
It’s a buttery soft fabric in a dove-gray color that makes my eyes pop. Under that is a gauzy ivory shirt with a square neck.
It’s a nice contrast, the suit with the flowy shirt.
Manly but still androgenous in a way that has me smiling.
He thought about me, and what I like. He didn’t just put me in a tux. No, he gave me something soft and pretty.
“You look beautiful, rabbit, but I think you’re missing something.”
I look down at myself. “Really? What?”
He surprises me by opening a long, thin box. Inside sits a necklace with diamonds and sapphires in an alternating pattern.
“Holy shit!” I gasp. “Is that real?”
“It is, and because it’s such a big present, I’m going to let the swearing go this time.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, but it’s so beautiful.” My hands itch to touch it.
“Here, let me put it on you.” I turn and face the mirror, watching as he places it around my neck.
“It’s cold.” I shiver.
“Should I take it off?” he teases, and I clutch my neck.
“No!”
“So you like it?”
“I love it!” I gasp and pull him down for a kiss.
I meant for it to be a quick kiss, but then I’m plastered against his warm, strong, thick body and trying to climb him like a tree.
My dick shoots to full hardness, and I’m rubbing myself shamelessly against him like a slutty cat.
He pulls back first, and he’s panting hard.
“Goddamnit, rabbit. Of all the times to—” His hot mouth is on mine again and his tongue is demanding entrance.
Yes. This is perfect. I can relax and let this man give me pleasure.
He’s not going to take it for himself, and I’m about to push out of his arms so I can bend the hell over my bed when he pulls back again.
“I hope you’re still in this amorous mood later.”
“I’m in an amorous mood now.” I pout and reach for him, but he steps back.
“We can’t now, rabbit. I have to go give a toast and rub elbows with the influential people in the city.”
I groan and throw my head back.
“And,” he kisses my neck, “I want to show off my handsome new boyfriend.”
“I am handsome.” I nod in agreement when I let him put me down.
“But I promise, as soon as I can, we’ll finish this.”
A knock comes from the closed door. Daddy kisses my hand before calling out to enter.
“Hey, boss. You ready? The mayor just got here, and I don’t want to talk to her again. She keeps trying to set me up with her daughter. Maybe if she tried setting me up with her son, Hugo...”
“Please do not upset the mayor.”
“You’re no fun.” Tag peers around Daddy and smiles at me. “Hi, Rory.”
“Hi, Tag.”
“You look good enough to eat.”
“Thanks.”
Lex shoves him and turns us toward the door. “Yeah, alright. Let’s go.”
Tag laughs. “Jealous, boss?”
“No, just in a hurry.”
It’s scary as hell to be here with all these people. Everyone knows Daddy and wants to talk to him. He takes about a minute with each person before moving to the next. Somehow, he does it without making them feel dismissed, and he introduces me as his boyfriend to everyone we meet.
There are definitely some dirty looks, mostly from the women in their fancy dresses with their boobs practically hanging out. I just smile back at them. Fuck these bitches and their fake lips.
Lex is talking to someone about something boring when I see Becky by the door. She looks gorgeous in a tight white dress, and her red curls form a sort of halo around her head.
“I see someone I want to say hi to,” I whisper to Lex.
“Of course, but please don’t be gone long.”
“I’ll be fine.” He gives me a quick kiss and gets back to his conversation.
“Rebecca. Hi.”
“Rory, I was hoping I’d see you here.” She pulls me into a quick hug. “Is your brother here?”
“Yeah.” I look around. “He just got back yesterday, so he’s been getting settled in.” He accepted Daddy’s offer, and he’s moving into the mansion to work full-time.
“I’d like to say hello on a personal level.” She gasps when she realizes what she just said. “I mean, like, not as a police officer, but as a normal person.” She pauses and takes in my face. “I just made it obvious that I have a crush on him, didn’t I?”
“Maybe,” I tease. “But he might like you too. He always watches you when you’re around, and he trusts you.”
“I’ll try to flirt with him and see how it goes.” She shrugs.
“You have my full blessing.”
“Thanks. How are things going with Hart? Is he good to you?”
“Very good. He makes me feel safe.”
“I’m glad. You deserve all the comfort and love in the world.”
We share a tender moment before her phone rings. She looks at it and curses. “Damn, I’m sorry, I have to take this.” She winces, and I wave her off.
“No worries.” I watch her leave when someone steps up behind me.
“You shouldn’t wander off on your own, sir,” a gruff voice says from behind me. I think it’s Bellen. I’ve only met him a few times, and he’s kind of a dick.
“I’m never alone.” Lex is being overprotective and probably sent this guy to check on me. It warms my heart to know that he cares so much about me that I can’t even leave his—
“Close enough.” He grabs me and pulls me roughly to his side.
“What are you doing?” I try to pull my arm away when something that feels like a gun is pressed to my side.
“Let’s go. Not a fucking word.”
Suddenly, the smoke alarms go off. People rush around and shout, but Bellen pulls me out of the house and into a waiting car. I don’t recognize the driver, but I don’t care.
“Let me go,” I growl and hit at him. “What the fuck are you doing?” He reaches over and pins my arms down before he stabs me with a syringe. Ah, fuck. He just drugged me! “Where are you taking me?” My words slur and my eyes start to close.
“To meet some new friends and some old friends…” He chuckles.
I wake up in what looks like a rundown warehouse full of molding crates. Now I truly am in a mob story, and I’m the dumbass who got kidnapped.
Oh, look. I’m tied to a chair.
How original.
No, this is not the time to mope about the lack of creativity in these mobsters. I need to figure out where I am and how to get the fuck out of here.
What did that traitor Bellen say right after he stabbed me in the neck?
New friends and old frien—
“Hey, Rory. Long time no see,” a voice says behind me.
My blood runs cold, and I’m worried I might pass out, but no, I’m stronger now. I can handle this. My resolve wavers when Chad walks around to the front of my chair. God, I hate this fucker. It’s a shame he’s so handsome.
A bastard with a soul like his should be ugly. Like warts and balding ugly or at least come with a warning label.
“Hey, Chad. Couldn’t take what you had coming to you, so you decided to kidnap me? Like I told the police, I don’t know anything.”
“You know your brother hired the mob to come after me.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Please, you’ve been seen with Hart recently. So don’t lie.”
“I’ve been seen with Hart because we’re dating, not because we hired him.” I look around the space. “Normally, I’d say this isn’t a mob movie we’re living in, but it looks like we’re in one now.”
“I didn’t pick the location. You think I would ever be caught dead in this dump?
When I found out Hart was the one coming after us, I had to hire someone else.
” He waves around the space. “I can admit I much preferred Hart’s tower.
But you got to him first. Are you paying him with sex?
Cause I know you don’t have the money to pay him. ”
“I’m not paying him at all. We’re dating.” I say the words like he’s an idiot, but he ignores me.
“How did you convince him to like dick?”
“He likes me. It doesn’t matter what parts I have.”
“Yeah, it does, fucking homos.”
“You know that raping a man still makes you gay.”
“It’s your fault,” he screams and stomps over to me. “If you weren’t so goddamn pretty like a girl, I wouldn’t have looked at you twice.”
A new voice enters the conversation, and I don’t like it. It’s cruel.
“Oh, he is pretty. Look at that mouth.” The gross troll of a man grabs my chin. I move my head down and bite him hard. He backhands me, and I taste blood, but I’m fighting this time. “Son of a bitch.”
Gross troll guy smiles while Chad is laughing his ass off.
“Looks like he’s got some fight this time.”
“Fuck you,” I snap. “It’s easy to be all big and manly when it’s three against one or you’ve got me tied to a chair after you drugged me. Like a fucking coward.”
“Listen—”
“What are you even doing here? You couldn’t get Daddy to solve your problem this time, so you had to run to this guy?”
“Shut up,” Chad roars.
“He’s got a good point.” Troll laughs.
“I hope he’s paying you enough, cause when my… Lex gets here, he’s going to fucking end all of you.”
“He doesn’t know where we are, and he’s going to be getting pieces of your body until he gives us what we want,” Troll says proudly.
Shit, pieces?
That takes some of the bravery out of my sails.
“Oh, now he’s starting to get it.”
“What do you want?” I ask.
“I want him to leave the city to me.” Troll frowns down at his bloody hand. “That hurt, you bitch.”
“Aww, did scary old me hurt the wannabe crime boss?” I baby talk to him.
“Wannabe crime boss?” Chad laughs.
“And what do you want?” I snap at him. “Mercy? Well, fuck that. You don’t deserve the mercy of death, so take what you have coming to you like a man,” I growl and bare my teeth.
Chad looks murderous for a moment, but he reins it in. “Hart will give us what we want, but he’ll never get you back, cause once I’m done with you, I’m going to let Travis here fuck your corpse.”
“I’ll take him either way.” Travis grins.
Gross!
“Untie me, you cowards.”
“Why?”
“Let me at least try to defend myself.”
Troll Travis shrugs and steps back. He motions to a guard who comes over and flicks open a knife.
Wow. I didn’t think that would work.
Maybe I’m a Jedi!
Focus, Rory!
What am I going to do once he unties me?
“Really?” Chad rolls his eyes.
“I like it when they fight.”
My hands snap free, but I still don’t have a plan.
Oh, well. I grab the chair I was tied to and ram it straight into Chad’s gut. He falls to the ground and drops his phone.
Perfect.
I scoop it up and run for the large crates that are stacked all over the warehouse.
The voices are loud behind me, but I’ve got a head start, and I’m small.
I look at the phone screen and it’s locked.
Fuck!
No, wait… I can make an emergency call.
“9-1-1, what’s your emergency?”
“I’ve been kidnapped. I have no idea where I am. My name is Rory Byrnes, tell Detective Risch.”
“Sir, please slow down.”
“Can’t. I’m running.” Running to where?
“Do you know who kidnapped you?”
“Yes, I’m on his phone, Chad Hudson. There’s some other guy named Travis.”
There!
I see a small hole in a crate. I’m not sure if I’ll fit, but I’m going to try.
“Fuck, where did he go?”
“Hurry and find the little shit!”
The operator keeps talking to me, but I turn the volume all the way down. She’s going to give me away.
I dive toward the small hole and it smells awful, but I’m able to get my shoulders through. It’s a tight fit, and I can feel the wood scraping the skin on my back. Shit, that hurts. I just need to wiggle until my hips fit…
“…your phone,” someone says.
I’m almost inside. Just a little more.
“He doesn’t know my passcode,” Chad says like an idiot, but his footsteps are getting closer. Okay, okay. Come on…
And I’m in!
I scramble to the back corner of the crate and try to be quiet, which is hard because I’m panting like I’ve just run a marathon. A marathon that I didn’t train for.
“We’ll find him,” Travis the Troll says. “It’s not like he can go anywhere.”
“Rory,” Chad calls out. “You can’t hide from us. You might as well come out now because the more you piss us off, the more it’s going to hurt when we find you.”
Daddy, please find me before they do.
