Chapter 237
Nick’s question made Lenny pause.
“Morrison Group invested in Fox Group?” Lenny repeated, frowning as he flipped through the report again. “I didn’t even notice that line.”
He looked more closely this time.
It was buried at the bottom, encrypted and easy to miss.
Logically, it made no sense.
With Khloe in Morrison Group, there was no reason for them to have any business interest in Fox Group—a company that, on paper, didn’t stand out in any meaningful way. And Morrison Group didn’t make careless investments.
“I’ll trace it,” Lenny said quickly. “The record is encrypted. It’ll take a bit of time.”
Nick didn’t respond.
But the temperature in the room dropped noticeably.
Two possibilities formed immediately in his mind.
Either Morrison Group’s move had something to do with Khloe—and that meant Ethan or someone close to him was involved.
Or…
It had come from Khloe herself.
The second thought flickered in his mind for less than a second before he dismissed it.
Still, it left a faint, unpleasant tension behind.
Nick hated that part of himself—the irrational sharpness that appeared whenever it came to her.
—
That evening, Trey returned early to the Fox family estate and waited near the entrance.
Tonight was important.
The mysterious Morrison Group investor had arranged a meeting for next week, and before that, there was a high-profile jewelry auction he couldn’t afford to miss.
Originally, he had planned to go alone.
But Angela had insisted on joining.
“The auction is organized by an international house,” she had said earlier, carefully framing it in front of Arthur instead of Trey. “There will be a lot of influential people from Goldmont City. I just want to broaden my horizons.”
Arthur had agreed after a brief pause.
As long as she didn’t cause trouble, letting her attend a social event wasn’t an issue.
So Trey had no choice but to bring her along.
He stood by the car for several minutes before Angela finally appeared.
She had clearly spent a long time preparing—an emerald-green velvet gown paired with a cropped black jacket trimmed with fur. Elegant, eye-catching, deliberate.
Trey glanced at her once.
Then looked away without comment.
Angela had expected at least a reaction. A compliment. Anything.
But there was nothing.
Her expression stiffened slightly as she silently got into the car.
—
At the auction venue, Trey walked ahead without waiting for her.
Angela followed in her heels, struggling to keep up, her face tightening with frustration the longer the distance between them grew.
“Mr. Fox, Ms. Roswell,” a staff member greeted them. “Your seats are arranged in the VIP section on the second floor.”
They were escorted upstairs.
Not long after, Khloe arrived.
She entered quietly with her manager, immediately taken to the VIP area. Two attendants were already waiting.
Unlike the others, she didn’t arrive with fanfare.
She didn’t need it.
The moment she sat down, a tablet was placed in front of her, displaying the night’s auction items.
Khloe scanned it calmly, her expression focused but relaxed.
She raised her hand slightly.
“Also,” she said, voice low and composed, “I’ll be keeping my identity anonymous tonight.”
The staff nodded immediately.
“Yes, Ms. Roswell.”
Around her, the auction hall buzzed with anticipation—but Khloe had no interest in attention.
She was only here to choose gifts.
