Chapter 246

Nick didn’t answer right away.

He stood very still, his gaze fixed on Khloe in a way that felt unusually heavy. Not sharp, not angry—just… deep, as if something was moving beneath the surface that he hadn’t fully named yet.

It made Khloe pause.

“What is it?” she asked quietly. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

Nick lifted a hand and brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear. The touch was gentle, but his voice carried a low weight.

“Trey is downstairs.”

The words landed softly—but not lightly.

Khloe’s expression shifted immediately.

“You saw everything?” she asked, a flicker of tension tightening her voice.

She straightened, instinctively trying to explain. “It wasn’t what you think. I ran into him by coincidence, and I already made things clear. Completely clear.”

Her tone grew firmer as she spoke, as if she needed him to believe it more than she needed to defend herself.

“If you’re uncomfortable, I can cut him off entirely. I don’t care about the Fox family anymore.”

Nick looked at her then.

“I’m not misunderstanding anything,” he said calmly.

A pause.

Then, quieter—

“I just don’t like it.”

His hand slid to her waist and pulled her closer.

“It makes me uncomfortable… seeing another man attached to you like that.”

There was no accusation in his voice. Only honesty. And beneath it, something restrained—something he didn’t bother hiding anymore.

Jealousy.

Not loud. Not aggressive.

Just unmistakably there.

Khloe softened instantly.

She wrapped her arms around him, holding him firmly as if grounding him. “I’m sorry,” she said gently. “I won’t let something like that happen again.”

She tilted her head slightly, searching his face. “Tell me what I should do. If it bothers you, I’ll handle it your way.”

Nick’s eyes darkened for a moment.

Then he spoke, almost casually.

“I had someone deal with him. He should be in a hospital by now.”

Khloe blinked.

Then, instead of alarm, a faint look of understanding crossed her face.

“Good,” she said simply. “Thank you.”

Nick watched her closely.

There was no hesitation in her reaction. No softness toward Trey. Only acceptance.

That seemed to ease something in him.

“I also increased security downstairs,” he added.

“Mm.”

“This place isn’t ideal. We should move.”

“Move?” Khloe repeated, surprised.

Nick continued without breaking rhythm.

“We should choose a new house for our marriage. I’ve already had Lenny prepare options. You decide everything.”

His tone was calm but final—like the decision had already begun moving forward.

Then, as if testing something in her expression, he added more softly:

“I don’t want anyone disturbing us again.”

Khloe studied him for a moment, then smiled.

“So that’s what this is about. You were waiting to fix everything that bothered you?”

Nick didn’t deny it.

“Yes.”

A pause.

“I don’t like anything that comes between us.”

The simplicity of it made something warm settle in Khloe’s chest.

“All right,” she said softly. “We’ll move.”

Only then did the tension in his eyes loosen, replaced by something quieter… almost satisfied.

Later, Khloe showed him the jewelry she had bought at the auction.

She spoke with more energy now—explaining which piece she chose for Loretta, which for Arista, wondering if they would like them.

Nick, however, barely looked at the boxes.

His attention stayed on her.

“Anything you choose will be liked,” he said.

Khloe glanced up at him, amused. “Is there a better flatterer in Goldmont City than you?”

Nick leaned closer, brushing his fingers lightly along her cheek.

“I don’t know about others,” he said. “But I do know one thing.”

His gaze held hers.

“No one loves you more than I do.”

Khloe froze for half a second before her face warmed instantly.

“That’s such an exaggerated thing to say,” she muttered, turning her face slightly away.

Nick’s voice lowered.

“It’s not an exaggeration. It’s a fact.”

Before she could respond, he added casually, as if remembering something mid-thought:

“Oh. I found what you were looking for.”

Khloe paused. “Already?”

Nick nodded once.

“Yes.”

For a brief moment, business returned to his tone—but even that couldn’t fully hide the fact that his attention kept drifting back to her, as if everything else could wait… except her.
