I flew to Miami.

I got my Jeep.

I thanked the attorney.

I drove to Del Cielo’s.

I saw the new windows.

I saw the repaired damage that was hardly noticeable.

I saw Hailey.

I didn’t see Reena.

But she left a note. Or someone left a note.

A folded napkin.

Fourteen words.

I’m sorry. Please forgive me. The bungalow is being sold. Live a bold life. XO

I drank my favorite coffee.

I paid for a pumpkin muffin with chocolate chips.

I drove past the house in Little Havana.

I went inside.

I laid on a futon couch.

I breathed in freedom.

But I wasn’t free.

And I’d been wrong.

I had been living.

But now I wasn’t.

I got back in my Jeep.
